Mercury?

Jeremy Piven walked out of the play Speed The Plow. The problem was when he walked out he was not a guest in the theatre, but actually the star of the play. Piven just abruptly left prior to his performance on Tuesday and also decided to skip yesterday's matinee performance as well.

The reason? Well, Piven said that he had a high mercury count and so couldn't do the performances. Instead, Piven decided to just fly back to LA leaving David Mamet in the lurch and causing at least 300 people to ask for their money back when they heard Piven had abandoned the play. Ummm, I am writing his a couple of hours before you are actually going to see it. I would not be surprised when this actually does show up on the internet that Jeremy has not landed himself a little spot in what we like to call rehab.

It has to be something like that. Mercury? WTF is that about? You know you are messed up on something when the excuse of a high mercury count actually sounds good to you. David Mamet actually despite being totally screwed over by Piven had a sense of humor about the whole thing.

"I talked to Jeremy on the phone, and he told me that he discovered that he had a very high level of mercury," Mamet told Daily Variety. "So my understanding is that he is leaving show business to pursue a career as a thermometer."

That is some funny stuff from a guy who is probably wondering if he can handle 300 refunds a day. Jeremy Piven has got some explaining to do.

david mamet and piven go back to their chicago days, so mamet probably knew what he was getting into when he cast the diva.

it sounds like the drugs are started to rot his brain.

maybe he just eats a lot of fish .......A LOT OF FISH...one of the symptoms of high mercury is : "Mood and mental changes. People with chronic mercury poisoning often have wide swings of mood, becoming irritable, frightened, depressed or excited very quickly for no apparent reason. Such people may become extremely upset at any criticism, lose all self-confidence, and become apathetic. Hallucinations, memory loss and inability to concentrate can occur. "

sounds like half of hollywood !!

sounds like every role he's played!

David Mamet is HILARIOUS. Given his excellent dramatic writing I didn't think he had it in him but whew, that one made me laugh out loud.

Beg to differ...none of his roles sound like that. Least none that I can remember. Not in Grosse Point Blank, Serendipity, or even Say Anything.

Mercury poisoning. Huh. Thought you had to eat an entire sushi restaurant to get that.

That line from Mamet is hysterical!

Oh #$(@&$#* - I just got a visual of the Pivert as a thermometer, checking some skank's temperature. Blagh!

It leads to low sperm count so that's a good thing where Piv is concerned.

this coke fiend needed rehab before he even landed Entourage.

Molly said...

maybe it was coke tainted with mercury.

the description of Mercury poisoning sounds an awful lot like coke symptoms.

and I could see being down a week, but seriously, for 2 months. WTF!

He had to leave New York because all the hospitals are in LA. Understandable.

Wish I could have walked out on Speed the Plow when I saw it, but that was back when Madonna was in it and I was writing a story about it.

So how and when did Piven get tested for Mercury?

amazonblue said...

I must watch too much "House", cuz my first thought was he was poisoned by one of the many skanks he's dated.
But if the symptoms match cocaine use, then it sounds like a cover up.

Hey, give the man some credit, at least he didn't say he suffers from "exhaustion."

I have some interesting scoop...I know someone who is on his "staff" and was informed that he was coming back to LA last week...hmmmmm.....just saying.

I know someone who is on his "staff"

We probably all know someone who is, or has been on, his staff.

Wouldn't the level of mercury go back to normal within a week, at most a month? Then why is he unable to FINISH the show, which is running until the end of February? TWO months away?!

Grace- It's just like when Palin went into labor in Texas and waited the 12 (?) hours it took to get back to the only hospital in Wasilla.

Sumpins up!

Unless Piven is in a hospital getting chelation therapy, he's full of shit, not mercury.

That said, Mamet's thermometer line is pure unmitigated genius.

Fish is the official explanation:

Colker says the cardiologist checked on Piven's heart rhythm, which is now normal, and recommended "enforced rest" for Piven "because he knows Jeremy would crawl back to that stage if he could," Colker says.

geeze, this webmd article reads like people magazine.

An acquaintance of mine was recently diagnosed with mercury poisoning. He had had all kinds of stomach and joint problems for years and no doctor could ever tell him what was wrong with him, until one finally did the right blood work and found out he had heavy metal poisoning (I, too, have been inflicted with Heavy Metal Poisoning since I was 13, but, according to my aquaintance, not the same kind). He has a lot of the old kind of fillings in his teeth, which is the main cause, but, incidentally, he also eats an awful lot of Sushi.

Heavy Metal poisoning... is that where you listen to too much Anthax and Pantera? :)
