Where Have I Heard This One Before? Jordin Sparks Waiting For Marriage To Give Up Her Virginity
I believe Britney Spears uttered those same words and kept insisting to everyone she was a virgin. Hell, I think she might have claimed she was still a virgin even after she got pregnant. Jessica Simpson made a similar vow, but I don't know if hers included relatives or if it was just for strangers wanting to have sex with her.
American Idol winner Jordin Sparks has revealed that she does not plan to lose her virginity until she gets married.The 17-year-old singer, who won the most recent season of the talent show, was encouraged by her parents to wait for sex when she was just 13.
"My parents gave me a purity ring and talked to me about waiting until I'm married to have sex. It wasn't forced; it just made perfect sense. It's going to be awesome to say to my husband that I waited my whole life for him."
I wish Jordin Sparks the best in her pledge and her commitment. I think every woman should be able to do exactly what they want and not be pressured by society. However, what I do hate is when a public figure makes this pledge and then it's obvious that she's gone back on it, but they never address it or just pretend they are still a virgin.
Jordin. If you want to stay a virgin until you are married, I'm all for it. However, if you do have sex, please let us all know so little girls don't find out you're lying later and do something stupid.

I agree with everything you said here. I don't know why people make these public declarations. Who wants to be responsible for something they said when they were 17? Also, I think talking about who/when in regards to your virginity is just as crass as talking about all the guys you banged.
I totally agree with you, Ent! This society has such a double standard when it comes to teenage boys. As a European it seems creepy to me when fathers make their daughters wear purity rings and attend these father and daughter dances. I'm sure Jessica and Pimpa Joe attended quite a few of those.
the fact that it is a double standard in no way makes it less of a standard.
Yeah, they've done studies though and the ones in w/the purity pledges use the Bill Clinton definition of sex so not really that pure - just the one spot is left untouched... :)
It makes me so mad when stars say this and don't mean it. I'm a 22 year old virgin who in high school would go to elementary and jr high schools for STARS (students today aren't ready for sex) and when stars say this and go back on it.. it just ruins what we are trying to do. :'( be more aware instead of trying to get some attention from a certain fan base. And it's not about marriage or anything like that it's about being ready and with a special person they can trust. Not to be pressured either way.. it's all about when they are comfortable at any age.

God, she is a fool to make that public knowledge. This can only serve to cause her great pain. KIDS, do NOT under any circumstances mimick the the actions of Britney Spears. All schools need to be teaching the kids "DO the exact opposite of Britney."
