Russell Crowe Getting Baptized

That is a headline I never thought I would write. Russell Crowe says that it is hypocritical of him to baptize his children without first being baptized himself. In an interview with Men's Journal, Russell said his lack of baptism should be placed squarely at the feet of his parents. He said, "My mom and dad decided to let my brother and me make our own decisions about God when we got to the right age."

Well apparently 43 is the right age because he is going to get baptized at the chapel he built on his ranch which he says has been consecrated. Look, this is not a religious blog, and I try to stay completely neutral on every topic except for Denise Richards. I guess each person has their own views on baptism and such. Many people believe that you shouldn't baptize infants because they should be able to make their own decisions. Others say you should, because as parents it is your job to protect them.

Although I have no reason to discount Russell's faith, I get the feeling that he just is blowing smoke at an interview. He just wants it known he has a consecrated church and that he is going to go ahead and get baptized at the same time as his son Tennyson who is one. I almost got the feeling this is some type of publicity stunt rather than some true belief in faith. It doesn't matter what kind of faith he believes in, but I'm not sure he has any. ''I do believe there are more important things than what is in the mind of a man,'' he says. ''There is something much bigger that drives us all. I'm willing to take that leap of faith.''

To me it is almost like he is saying, "hey, there may or may not be a higher being, but what the hell, what is going to hurt to get baptized." To me it seems like the only belief he has, is that he wants a hedge against the possibility that there is a higher being so better be safe than sorry. I don't care if you are Buddhist, Muslim, Christian, Jewish or whatever, that just seems to be the wrong attitude towards faith, and is not really taking a leap of faith at all.

It is a little strange to bring it up in an interview.

But hey! Maybe he's so full of that old-time religion that he's gotta shout it out loud!

Actually I *think* the chapel had the Sacrament installed for his wedding several years ago.

I get the feeling he has strong, sincere feelings on the subject right *now*. At the very least it'll create nice memories of stability for his kids. I'd rather read about this sort of thoughtful gesture than about Britney Spears or Star Jones.

Good point LainieKazan. This article give me a much better feeling than looking at another picture of a dirty blonde with bad skin and no thong.
