No. I was just glad to be getting out.
I don't know what high school was even supposed to be about.
He wasn't famous, that's all I remember. He may have been the President of the nearby college, definitely not a politician.
Yes. Famous actor who was from our town, super nice guy, interesting speech.
I'm still jealous about a colleague who told me her mom's commencement speaker (college, not HS) was Dr Seuss.
I was.
Edward Teller, inventor of the hydrogen bomb.
I don't think we had one. Weird thing though, my daughter was supposed to graduate college a few years ago and only had 3 electives to complete. She was on dean's list, all that. She withdrew that semester and hell if they didn't bring the Dalai Llama to be the commencement speaker. Never had there been so much coverage of a commencement, and my parents and I were both so antagonized by it. I wasn't mad at her, because she had never taken a break, but it was too ironic.
I assume the valedictorian.
From the UK so we didn't have to bother with any of that prom, commencement or graduation bullshit. They just shovelled you out the door last day of term and told you to fuck off. Fine by me. I kept well in front of the shovel and fucked off. Left school at 16and never looked back.
No speaker that I can remember. The only speeches were the typical valedictorian and salutatorian. Those were long enough.
No speaker in HS. Is that a thing in public schools?
My college commencement speaker was none other than Elizabeth Holmes.
Nope, not really.
Our Valedictorian, Bruce.
Nope. No clue. I was already at university, just showed up for HS graduation. My graduation from university was tinged with me being incredibly ill from having been given impure water in Spain. I was sicker than a dog. Literally, if my family hadn't been all dressed up and ready to go, I wouldn't have gone at all. I have no idea who spoke or what they said. What I do remember were that the School of Engineering grads were right behind us in the stands, shouting "We've got jobs! Yes we do! We've got jobs! How 'bout you?!"
We don't have all this in the UK. Have I missed out?
Few high school graduating classes have commencement speakers, only valedictorians. My college graduation commencement speaker was civil and children’s rights activist Marion Wright Edelman
We didn't get a speaker, but do I remember that ten years on our valedictorian was a low-rent stripper. It was the talk of the reunion...
I didn't even know who the guy was at the time. Some classmate. I do remember he talked about OJ Simpson a bunch and then OJ was on tv in white Bronco a few days later.
Governor Kaisich. He was a state senator then. He was an old high school pal of our principal and came to our school a few times. I am not a fan of his most conservative views but he was a heck of a governor and I remember he was super nice to all of us, offering good advice. He also did something really nice for my grandma when she was in a jam so I am partial to him, but that is another story.
Nope. Skipped it to chase Pink Floyd up the EC.
Zebra Seasoning - wow, congrats.
Momo, yikes what a speaker!
No, I don't remember who ours was.
I went to a small school, where we had to attend graduation all four years...now I can only recall two of the speakers, and Im not sure either was from my own ceremony.
I do not recall undergraduate speaker. A family member had Former President Clinton.
No, you haven't missed out. This is just the stupidest Your Turn Enty has ever not put effort into.
Wasn’t there.
Rep. Barney Frank. He was a really good speaker!
nope, definitely was talking to whomever sat beside me
