Blind Items Revealed #6

July 19, 2019

Back in the day, there was no one netter than this permanent A list stand up. He hasn't even done stand up in decades and he is still permanently A list. Now, he doesn't do much except live off old standup and movie fame. He doesn't write anything any longer which means if he does get a standup gig, they will all be jokes written for him.

Eddie Murphy/Netflix

Most of them buy jokes these days.

In an Industry that gives more value to a joke than protecting the dignity of children blinded by hero worship.
Shame on the industry suck ups.
Consumers are beyond boycott. Those days are long gone while Pedowood can burn in hell.

@Sandybrook, most of them have always bought jokes! Bob Hope, Milton Berle, Eddie Cantor, Steve Allen all had teams of gag writers. Woody Allen started his career as one, and so did Joan Rivers. I have no problem with Eddie buying jokes.

As an Eddie fan, however, I do worry that his time has come and gone, and that this return will be an embarrassment.

This was kind of apparent on the new episode of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee.

Better buying them than stealing them!

Jesus, can you imagine the panty wetting outrage of the emotionally incontinent modern fucktardery if Eddie unleashed the the first thirty seconds of Delirious these days.

Jesus Christ, they'd shit their knickers purple, the vapouring little fuckspittles that they are, fuck them all to hell.

If Murphy came back he could sell out multiple nights at Madison Square Garden in about 5 minutes. He is way too smart to not kill it straight out of the gate. He just needs to act goofy and keep an edge to his confidence. I'm in if he goes for it. I really hope he does.

I just hope he doesnt try to work pc.

I'm holding out hope that these specials can be great. Hopefully, with the budget he's been given, he'll pick a stellar team. As someone said on the original blind, timing and delivery are essential, and few can be funnier once they get going.

No one needs or expects a head to toe leather repeat of Raw. He's had ten kids, a lot of movies, and a lot of life experiences since his last stand up. He is hysterical just telling stories. I genuinely think if he is observant, and can laugh at himself as well as situations, he's going to be fantastic.

Count-- something tells me that his brain doesn't work that way. Material might be different than the past, but it wouldn't be bc he was catering to that priority.

@Vita Well put.

I used to beg my old boss to pitch Eddie to tour again.

Honestly he doesn't need the money and clearly has no fucks to give, so why bother? Rehearsing, getting timing down, buying jokes, etc. His time was 1984 not now.

When was Eddie Murphy ever funny? I'm 37.... I don't remember.... maybe that time he got caught with a Tranny IRL but that was it.

He was great on SNL and in his early movies. Then his girl wanted to party all the time and it all went to hell.

At least he doesn't pull "Carlos Mencia" tricks and steal his material.

BOWFINGER.
That is all.

Eddie Murphy's time has passed. He seems to understand that. Why does Netflix want to embarrass him like this? Are they that desperate for some excuse to launder money?

He always used writers.

His brother was a huge force behind his writing he was the real Eddie. I think Joe Rogan has writers now. Joey Diaz is by far my favorite comedian.

I never cared for Rogans stand up.

Saw Diaz yrs ago open for Bobcat Goldthwait. He killed. No clue it was him until a couple months ago, after seeing him on Rogans podcast a few times. Watched one of his recent specials and was unimpressed. Conversationally, he is interesting and hilarious though, kinda like Tracy Morgan.

There is nothing wrong with employing comedy writers. The old time comics used to boast about how many writers they had.

Hard to find anyone that's actually funny, any more. They all get a jones about politics or religion and begin to pontificate instead of sharing wry bemusements or scathing send ups of everyday life. They just stand there and snob out, and to me, that's not amusing.

@samantha - Sarah Silverman is 1 unfunny fucker that proves your point

I don't find SS funny either, Ubervation.

Ricky Gervais was one I had in mind while typing the comment.

Eddie wouldn't be allowed to do the material he'd write, so are you surprised? Comedy is dead except for Ricky Gervais, who has too much money to care who he pisses off and apparently has a spine.
