The show was bad. The show took a lot of heat from outside groups. Despite those things going against it, this network show from just a few years back was going to get a full season order. The network didn't want to upset the star who was working on a new project after being on some really successful shows and felt if they could make it through one season, they could fire the showrunner and get a fresh start. The problem of the show was the showrunner. The guy was hitting on every woman in the place. He would yell and be abusive to everyone. He had a number of personalities that would suddenly appear and disappear and some days the cast and crew were truly scared to be there. It all grew to be too much and the show was canceled.

Dads in 2013?
Slammed as racist. Exec produced by Seth MacFarlane. Starring Seth Green-- successful shows being Buffy, Robot Chicken and Family Guy. New project at the time maybr his vocal cameo in Guardians of the Galaxy?
Showrunner Alec Sulkin.
That could be.. also thought of Blood and Oil/Don Johnson/Josh Pate show runner but not sure it was controversial in any way(just sucked lol)
Also thinking Truth Be Told, with Mark Paul Gosselaar, who had Saved by the Bell, Franin and Bash and NYPD Blue behind him.
Will Packer for the producer.
Another good guess...:)
Thanks Tricia!
👍
No idea, but I hope we figure it out.
This is the part that intrigues me the most: "He had a number of personalities that would suddenly appear and disappear...." I'm presuming that means his own personalities, like he had a number of "alters"? Not that there were a number of well-known (or notorious) people who would show up on set?
I think the blind is saying he was incredibly moody, not that he would start talking with different accents or answer to different names ;)
All I can think of is that show Ashton Kutcher produced called the Beautiful Life starring Mischa Barton of the OC about models in NYC. It had tons of hype, but bad reviews and was pulled super early, even though the ratings werent that bad.
It had controversy from outside for having extremely thin girls on it.
Jane Lynchs Angel from hell
Sean (Hayes) Saves the world
examples that at least kinda fit the parts about star being on succesful shows
and not getting a full season. angel from hell had some christian moms upset
but idk about the showrunners
could this be GCB?? (Good Christian Bitches?)
@Kelly- i came to say the same. It was 2012.
Kristin Chenoweth as the star who had acclaim for West Wing, Pushing Daisies, and even Glee before signing on to GCB.
It only had 10 episodes.
Obviously many groups won't like the 'bitches' in the title!
No idea on showrunner.
The Celebrity Apprentice!
very amazing and interesting post, thank you for sharing

Couldn't be GCB, Darren Star is openly gay. Not to say that a gay man wouldn't be abusive to a female worker, but this is also someone who would wanna hit on women.
Our President is a show runner now?
I'm just gonna go back to my Dads guess.
0% Rotten Tomatoes score and considered one of the worst shows of all time. Made it a full season. Considered offensive and racist.
Seth Green has been on several hit shows, and is a top actor. Was still doing the voice of Chris on Family Guy at the time of Dads, and was also recording various voice roles for shows and videogames at the time -- including a Family Guy game. Maybe wanted an onscreen lead role, and used his successful v.o. work as leverage to get it. Hence, make the star happy.
Showrunners were Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild. Sulkin did get in trouble two years prior for an insensitive Japanese tsunami tweet, maybe he's pretty troubled even beyond that.
*top voice actor
@Melvin
If it is GCB it would be Robert Harling as the showrunner. Darren Star wasn't even allowed on set for most of filming, or his own office there, because of their disagreements. Star had promoted it using only his own name as the creator when Harling had written it. Shit went down after that.
( The team who helped Harling, who are usually described as showrunners, consisted of a gay man/woman duo, so not them either.)
I couldnt find anything on Harling being an ass, except his fight with Star, so he may not fit for this one.
Sounds like Dan Harmon
