Blind Item #5 - Old Hollywood - A Reader Blind Item
This late actor was not out during his lifetime although there were always rumors. A made-up wife didn't help. Now everyone knows he was gay. He was in both TV and film. On TV, he was in two different crime related dramas, one of which was based on a series of books. In movies, he often played villains due to his size. His most famous role was probably the one from a film by this A++++ director in which he is observed for most of the movie by the main character. On USO tours early in his career he would share rooms with other actors. It was quite common for those other actors to wake up in the middle of the night to find this late actor performing fellatio on them. His response was "shhhh go back to sleep" and he would keep going.

ReplyDeleteYeah, it's Raymond Burr. But my how strikingly handsome he was in the old Perry Mason reruns! That jet black hair, all suave and debonair, with Della on his arm.. Watching nowadays, you can't help but look twice at the smoldering, lascivious smirks Ray-Ray gives the male actors he's cross-examining...

i loved 'rear window'. if you haven't seen it, watch it. classic hitchcock and jimmy stewart----not to mention grace kelly at her most beautiful.

I would have loved to see RDJ play Perry Mason, but now word is he'll just be Exec Producer in reboot. They need an actor with piercing eyes. Burr/Mason could almost stare someone into a confession. Suggestions? Mahershala Ali could be badass..

ReplyDeleteMy Grandad used to tell the story about the time he went in a little dinghy with Burr and Benvenides out to their Naitauba island, so he could build a pontoon dock for their yacht. Burr’s dog was seasick all over everyone, and made a hell of a mess.
