Jesse Eisenberg Thinks He Is A Huge Star

I really hate when I find out something about a celebrity you want to like and now have to put on your not so sure list. According to The NY Post, Jesse Eisenberg was in the airport over the weekend when he was spotted by some fans. Right there he should be saying thank you because he has been in very few things and to even actually have someone who spotted him and recognized him and just happened to be a fan is pretty amazing. Anyway, they came up to Jesse and asked if they could take a photo with him. Jesse told them he does not take photos in an airport. He also does not take them in a train. He does not take them in a car. He does not take them in a bus. He does not, will not, take them anytime, especially with green eggs and ham. What kind of ridiculous rule is that? An airport is about as public a place as you can get. Where does he take them? It is not like he is the biggest star on the planet. Name something you have seen him in other than Social Network.

Zombieland, and Adventureland. Hilarious 30 minutes or less... But he should be nicer to his fans. Just be gracious, sign a few, keep on moving, and say you might be late to catch your flight.

No big deal. But,gotta love all that attitude that mean-girled Justin Timberlake on the red carpet, gotta love it!

I just saw the best blind on celebitchy, do you guys have any guesses for #3? Its tempting to guess elisabetta w/george or chelsea handler w/ted harbert (which is the popular guess there...) but these are not right...I wanna know though who it is, lol

ZombieLand and to be honest, in my mind he is a huge star because of it (my love of Zombie movies knows no equal) however, he shouldn't be such a douche to fans. Jimmy Stewart said it best - fans pay your bills (to paraphrase)

Love, love, love zombieland and adventure land. Social network was ok, overhyped. Hated 30 minutes or less, but not because of him. It just overall tried too hard.

But here's the reason I hate stuff like this. Celeberities are allowed to have a bad day. We all do. And we snap at people, friends, family, grocery store cashiers, what have you. A celeb has a bad day and its all over the place that they are horrid to their fans.

I had the pleasure of meeting Jesse a couple months ago when he was doing Asuncion in NYC. I saw him personally take many pictures with fans (and PLENTY of ppl recognized him) and he was super nice to all of them. However, in person, he's a shy, quiet guy. Pair that with having a crabby day and I'm sure he'd easily come off as snotty and rude. It just makes me sad. One bad encounter should not be taken as gospel.

@Bnl016 - good post. I hope this is true (in that he was just having a bad day).

I caught a bit of that Spelling Manor show on HGTV yesterday. Candy said that the tour buses would drive by all hours of the day and night. Once time when they were coming home and the gate was open a bus pulled out. Aaron went out, got on the bus and thanked all the tourists for making his success possible.

Blueberry said...

Patty, wow that's crazy!

Misch - it fits them perfectly, except, it says the woman got her start in hollywood in the early 1990s - so unless by 'hollywood' they mean the entertainment industry its probably not them :(

EmEyeKay said...

Zombieland! He was perfect in Zombieland! He and Woody were like yin and yang. Or all yang. I get them confused.

@Bnl... glad you spoke up about that.

love him. maybe he was just in a bad mood or something..or the people were super obnoxious. that is strike number 1 tho for me.

Good perspective Bnl1016! I think that having your picture taken all the time would get really, really old. Especially if you're tired, cranky, not feeling so photogenic that day.

Well I saw him in a flight from NY to Istanbul about a year and a half ago. He was flying economy and he seemed nice. But that was before Social Network so maybe that made him a huge star :)

So crazy to read this post. I was sitting in front of his mother on a Jet Blue Flight from WPB to Newark. I noticed her when she was riling and playing with the obnoxious 8 year old who was kicking the seat behind me. The lady was getting the kid to sing songs (very loudly) during the flight. At the end of my flight, the crazy woman was telling her of her famous son Jesse Eisenberg. I obvs didnt believe her until I googled. It was her...she still deserved the eye roll I gave her.

Bubulle said...

Because he didn't want to take pics in a goddamn airport it means he thinks he's a super star really ? Don't be so quick to judge Enty .

FrenchGirl said...

Zombieland! Adventureland!

so you can't take pic with him in "public transport" so next time try in subway

Kelsey said...

agreed w/bnl... everything I've ever heard about him is that he's really nice to fans, but painfully shy. Maybe he was just feeling overwhelmed.

Baka Neko said...

He was really good in holly rollers

If that was his response - that was pretty funny.
I think all and all most actors oblige their fans, but as most said beforehand, just because they say no - does not automatically make them a douche.

Who is Jesse Eisenberg?

Christiane said...

I don't think his reaction is because he thinks of himself as a superstar, but rather because he has reclusive hermit tendencies and recoils at the thought of posing for candid photographs. If he's not rude to the fans when he refuses, he's totally in his right.

Zombieland. I love that movie. He was very funny in it.

Listen, Enty, I like beating up on celebrities who flaunt their private lives but then don't want to take a simple photo with fans. But in this case, the other side has to be considered. Eisenberg's catching a flight -- not exactly the best time to talk to anyone because of the frustrations that come with flying -- probably running around from meetings, trying to make the plane, and suddenly, someone wants a photo. As someone who does a lot of flying throughout the year, I would be rather annoyed at anyone coming up to me to discuss anything other than how to make this flight. So I can imagine Eisenberg, who isn't the most-public person among A- and B-listers, and not exactly flaunting his private life, to be any better.

Sometimes we forget that for every actor that thrives on being 'out there', there are plenty of actors who just know that this is just a very nice job. And treat it as such. It's actually refreshing because they aren't being self-important, they are just treating the job of being an actor for what it really is. So if Eisenberg didn't want to take photos in an airport, who cares?

But then, I don't understand why anyone gets hyped up over taking photos with celebrities anyway. Maybe because I have to deal with enough of them over the past 15 years to get beyond the point of caring.

Little Miss Smoke and Mirrors said...

Rude or not, I find him to be a one-note actor. I think his talent is quite limited.

Anonymous said...

I think Eisenberg is very shy, to the point of being a recluse outside of his work. Couple that with needing to catch a flight and you get this. Doesn't make him a bad person.

Pookie said...

deal w/ it, asshat.

you chose this profession. learn from the real a-listers the meaning of graciousness. it's not going to hurt you to wait a few more minutes to lull in the comfort of your bad day/grumpy mood/depression/bad hair moment.

RocketQueen said...

The only thing I care to add is that I honestly think he deserved the Oscar over Firth last year. Eisenberg was AMAZING in the Social Network. That is all.

Mother Campfire said...

Holy Rollers was awesome. Glad someone else saw it.

As for calling someone a [fill in the blank] because they want a small iota of privacy during a process that ALL of us find tiresome (and we don't even deal with the paparazzi screaming at us during said airport trip), I think that is a bit much. They are still professional people and I think we should give them a break.

Sidenote: I do think the photos and autographs are f*cking dumb, but its because I'm a judgemental twat who doesn't think you're any cooler than me, just because you're on TV/film. But I will always be nosy for gossip...whether its my neighbors or an actor. I'm twisted like that. ;)

I still have trouble differentiating this kid and Michael Cera. Both totally one note actors although my brother tells me that I would appreciate Michael Cera more if I watched Arrested Development.

Also, don't care what anyone says, Adventureland was awful.

Anonymous said...

Michael Cera is biding his time.....

I loved Zombieland, Adventureland and 30 Minutes or Less. I haven't seen The Social Network (bad I know, I'm not a movie person).

Are you allowed to take pictures in an airport? I was in La Guardia once and wanted to know the time. Neither my husband nor I wear watches and we didn't have cell phones (2002) so I took out my digital camera and took a picture so I could check the time. My husband warned me not to but I did it anyway. Security came racing after me.

Sevenmack said...

Wow, Pookie, anger, much? Honestly, the fact that so many people get consumed with the idea of taking a photo with someone whose job is, in many ways, no different than that of an accountant sans the glory and public notice, is amazing. If we all treated acting as a job and actors as just workers with nicer checks, we'd all be a tad healthier in mind and soul.

If anything, the fact that we treat actors as if they are demigods -- and then are disappointed when they are quite human -- says more about our lack of perspective than it says about them. Jesse Eisenberg included.

iheartjacksparrow said...

@Nart - That is exactly what I was thinking. Both play the same character no matter what movie they're in. After his last couple of bombs, Michael Cera has, thankfully, not been in anything recently. "Year One" was one of the worst movies ever made.

Angela said...

What? Nobody is a fan of "The Squid and the Whale"????

The story is obviously told from the "fans" point of view. There's no telling how obnoxious they were.

Jasmine said...

THE SOCIAL NETWORK looked fucking ridiculous and I refused to put anymore moolah into Mark Z's pocket, so I didnt see it.

And now, based on this schmuck's attitude, I'm glad I never have.

Calm down Facebook actor dude, you didnt invent anything, you starred in a bloated ego stroke-a-thon for Zuckerberg, and this is mostly why people know you. Pose for pics and feel lucky people dont wanna deck you. sheesh

I am planning to visit Montreal this summer with an amazing French Canadian woman I work with. She said she will take me to all the wonderful places to see (and eat) and will knock the shit out of anyone who gives me a hard time for being an American. :) Can't wait!

Thea said...

I'll give him a pass on this one. It didn't sound like he cussed anyone off or that he was rude to anybody. He merely responded he does not take photos in an airport. Maybe he was tired between flights or maybe he was feeling too gross for photos.

@ Mango - Early welcome to Canada! Montreal is great fun, I hope you enjoy your stay!

Anonymous said...

@Mango, I know other things were said about Montreal on other threads but Montreal is a world class city. They're very smug about their city but who isn't? They're slightly more humble than usual since the Habs are sucking.

All that to say, no one will give you a hard time for being American (they don't care) and it's completely bilingual so you'll never be lost if you don't/can't speak french.

So glad Im not the only one that lumps him and Michael Cera in one. I kept wondering why no one was mentioning Juno.

The Bitch Next Door said...

I've always disliked him and assumed the ass hole kid he played in THE SQUID AND THE WHALE was his true persona.

RocketQueen said...

Er, Jasmine - The Social Network was anything BUT an ego stroke for Zuckerberg. It was exactly the opposite. He came off looking like a real dick.

Jasmine said...

Oh good RQ- yeah, I did not know that. I just thought the whole premise of making a major Hollywood Blockbuster movie based around fucking FACEBOOK and its history was ridiculous and I guess my point was I didnt like the idea of Zuckerberg getting any more wealth and fame than he already has, and that's where my comment about the ego stroking really laid. But you're right, literally the movie may not have been ego stroking. Glad they protrayed him like the dick i've heard he is :))

30 Minutes are Less ... funny movie!

That was Summer 2010. You need to get out more Enty.

Lelaina Pierce said...

@RocketQueen - I gasped at your first post! ;) Mostly b/c of how much I thought Colin Firth deserved the win, instead. BUT Jesse was EXCELLENT in TSN.

I loved Adventureland, too. I just watched The Education of Charlie Banks a few weeks ago and that was pretty good as well.

Anyhoo...was it possible he was running to catch a flight? And I agree with Layna Day. He comes across as SOOOO uncomfortable in interviews.

iheartjacksparrow said...

@Janice-Marie: Do you know that the movie was based on a real life event and that the guy was blown to bits? I don't recall that the case has ever been solved. But it seems rather unfortunate that a studio would make a comedy about it.

Diane said...

Zombieland.

He was in "The Squid and the Whale"and "The Education of Charlie Banks".Two very good films. That's pretty obnoxious, but I still think he's so cute.Curly-haired guys:YUM!

Principessa said...

Holy shit, 30 Minutes Or Less WAS based on a true story! I never saw it, because I've already seen Pineapple Express and I don't like paying to see the same movie twice.

As he's not known for asshole behavior, I'm gonna give him the benefit of the doubt. It doesn't sound like he was traveling with an entourage, nor does he attempt to call attention to himself, so let him have his privacy. What balls do you have to have to think it's ok to bother someone mid-travel just because you saw him in a movie?

Also, his mom sounds like a treat. Maybe he was coming back from visiting her over the holidays and that's why he was in a crusty mood? Jewish mothers can be, um, excruciating to deal with sometimes.
