Chris Everett Llyod?
Chris Evert was Americas sweetheart.
american's sweetheart? Mary Lou Retton? LOL!!!
*** America's
I think she's married to Greg Norman now maybe.
Nancy Kerrigan !
Chris Evert, not Mary Lou
Really? This is the first I ever heard that... granted I was living in Europe a couple of decades ago, so that could be why I'm clueless to that tidbit.
No, not Nancy.... she was just a dorky girl who happened to have a crazy opponent. /grin
She fits the time line exactly though- her 2 silver medals were in '94 Olympics (I think she was considered a sweetheart though? tons of endorsements
Nope..they split years ago. she isn't married.
Could be....I guess I just never saw her as America's sweetheart. She always appeared homely and sad (and not in reference to her attack).
I see Mary Lou Retton and Meg Ryan- types, etc as America's sweethearts from decades ago... again..I wasn't living in the states at the time, so I may have missed a lot of the sweethearty things about NK.
@glue...homely kinda describes her lol. ..or "girl next door-ish," well say:)
Yep, vs. Martina Navratilova she sure was. Women's tennis was just getting popular because of those 2. But my answer was wrong anyway.
Not Chris. She was America's sweetheart in the late 60/s and throughout the 70's. That is more than a couple of decades ago.
On Mary Lou's Wikipedia page, her nickname is listed as, yes, you guessed it, "America's Sweetheart"......
Shannon Miller. She cheated on husband #1 too.
Michelle Kwan was world champion 20 years ago.
Just another possibility: Kristi Yamaguchi is the 1992 Olympic Champion in ladies' singles, and won two World Figure Skating Championships in 1991 and 1992 and a U.S. Figure Skating Championships in 1992. She turned pro after that and is married to Bret Hedican, a retired professional hockey player.
Dorothy Hamill?
Let's toss Dorothy Hamill in there, too.
Chris Evert is currently single. Divorced Greg Norman in 2009.
I could see this being Nancy Kerrigan....when the Tonya Harding attack happened she gained TONS of sympathy as the good little girl attacked by the bad girl...hence America's Sweetheart...
