One of the Cohen brothers, Blood Simple, Frances McDormand?
Franco
Top Gun Reboot/Tom Cruise?
Nm... thought it was actor/producer. Coen Bros is a good guess, but do they ever work individually?
Danny Glover?
Afflecks?
Yeah, maybe Coen brothers. Reboot: Big Lebowski. Actor - Nick Cage in Raising Arizona. (Not sure how big a star he was when that film came out.)
The Coen and Duplass brothers are all married, the Wachowskis are no longer brothers, and I don't see the Francos fitting here....
Bobby Farrelly?
Nick Cage is not foreign born, FGS.
Nvm, the Farrellys are both married.
Neither of the Coens ever pretended to be poor. They very rarely ever talk to the press at all.
There were no foreign born A-listers in their first big break, Blood Simple, either.
Okay, this has to about a brotherly part that works less closely together than the Coens or Wachowskis, perhaps even in different aspects of the movie industry.
I want to say it is someone involved with the Memento Reboot. It is one of the most famous movies of the last 30 years, it launched an A+ lister (Nolan). I can't find who is doing the reboot to fill in the rest. But most of the other reboots I'm looking at are either already released, are older than 30 years (Halloween), or didn't really launch anyone.
The butterscotch stallion himself Owen Wilson. Reboot is Bird on a wire I think
Todd Phillips(does he have a bro in biz ?)/A Star is Born/Bcoop-The Hangover... FB actor...?
Coens - Scarface Reboot? Miller's Crossing with Gabriel Byrne as A- lister.
Those fit - not sure about the poor part...
Josh Safdie
Boston University
48 Hours Reboot
Eddie Murphy in 48 Hours
Robert Pattinson in Good Time
He worked with Jude Law on All The Kings Men..?
Dunno
@badbisco great guess. think your right with that on. they said they had a rough upbringing. all checks out
Twins - Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito
+1 to SecretGuesser. This is definitely Coen brothers and the ridiculous Scarface remake
(probably incomplete) list of upcoming reboots that were -arguably- starmaking, or at least significantly star-boosting - for somebody involved.
Dirty Dancing or Road House
WarGames
American Psycho
Escape from New York or Big Trouble in Little China
Scarface
Hellboy
Memento
OMG, wasn't Raising Arizona hysterical!!??
Jesus, Hollyweird can't come up any new ideas so they just keep making remakes and comic book characters.
Am I the only one who believes "The Big Screen" is dead? Seriously, I ask this question.
I'll guess the Wayan Brothers. The one mentioned here would be Damon Wayans. He was the writer and producer (as well as actor) for Major Payne, the movie that gave him a big break when he cast a foreign A- actor, Michael Ironside.
The movie reboot, which is on hold but still being talked about by Wayans is Lethal Weapon, which made the career of A+ lister Mel Gibson.
I know at least one of the Wayans, maybe Keenan, did a comedy routine of how poor they were growing up.
THE BUTTERSCOTCH STALLION!!!!!
Haven't thought of that in years! The absolutely best, most majestic nickname for a famous person ever!
@badbisco got it. I came here to post the same answer.
it's one of the Safdie Brothers, Benny or Josh.
They were previously filming tiny no-budget but critically acclaimed mumblecore-type movies before they snagged their first big star, Robert Pattinson (foreign born, A- list) for Good Times last year. That film pushed them to a whole new level of notice in Hollywood despite a low boxoffice gross. Patitnson was even talked about for a potential Oscar nom.
It also got them enough notice that it was recently announced they are working on a remake of 48 Hours, the film that made Eddie Murphy a star.
So:
Director: Benny or Josh Safdie
A- lister abused by him: Robert Pattinson
Reboot: 48 Hours (A+ lister, Eddie Murphy)
I deleted a comment because it appeared twice. I'm new here and thought the screen might have froze as it was taking such a long time for the comment to register.
Speaking of brothers: It was so sad to see Oprah talking about Jeff Bridges' home next door to her being destroyed in the mud slide. Photos of his house were to die for. Think of all the memorabilia from his decades-long career under 10 feet of slime. Thank the Lord he and his family are safe! What a nightmare out there!
Agree on Safdie--Scarface is too old, not within the last three decades.
It’s gotta be one of the Safdie Brothers. Ben is married and Josh looks like a street hustler so I would assume it’s Josh. I know they say they have a rough upbringing but one of my ex’s went to their high school which is the school Barron Trump and Susan Sarandon’s sons went to. Their stepdad is a big shot finance guy who dated Ashley Olsen. I’d wager it’s them.
Nicolas Cage is a Coppola so I doubt it is him.
"When he was in college he used to always try and pressure women to orally service him." Are you kidding me? Is this where we're at now?
absolutely the Safdie brothers. They pretend to have a rough upbringing but were brought up by a billionaire who financed their early films as well as bullying anyone who stood in their way with his powerful wall street cronies. In this age of 1% and #metoo, they should be remaking running scared instead of 48 hours. Those who know Josh know he has a lot worse skeletons in his closet than the massage parlors (though hilarious someone mentioned that since it's something everyone talks about behind his back). Also can we mention that Benny playing a mentally handicapped guy in 2017 is a little whack? Not that they care they called the lead from their film heaven knows what a "junkie wh*re" even while pretending to artistically capture addiction. These are rapist frat types pretending to be cinephiles!
Good Time is the film on which Safdie wanted RPat to masturbate a dog and RPat refused. He was later forced to retract the story when people were rightfully disgusted.
hi guys!
Ethan Coen
Scarface
Al Pacino-although he was big already
Miller's Crossing
Gabriel Byrne
I don’t see the last one being Gabriel Byrne: he’s an ex-seminarian, from a tough enough part of Dublin, even then, and I doubt either Coen could top the abuse those bastards gave him. Plus he “came up” with two actors who knew people with some of the scariest connections on three continents - it’s possible that one word in the right ear would at the very least cost the director his kneecaps.
And he had to audition: http://www.nytimes.com/1990/09/16/movies/film-gabriel-byrne-bound-for-miller-s-crossing.html?pagewanted=all
Wild guess: the Duffy brothers who did Boondock Saints. Didn’t that have the Big Yin himself in one of them, as well as Willem Defoe?
Ridley and Tony Scott crossed my mind but the 'college' bit doesn't fit
I think some of you are missing the clue -- it says PRODUCER/WRITER, not director. The Safdies are not producers. The Coens both produce and write and so do other brother teams. It's odd how some Twilight fans have gone around badmouthing the Safdies for no discernable reason. There's also a lot of behind the scenes footage of Good Time online, and Pattinson was never broken down mentally or physically. If anything, he was the one who was large and in charge on the set. Everyone who worked on the film has said he became the character and he was the one who they got out of the way for, since he was very intimidating.
The Butterscotch Stallion!!!! Forgot about that nickname!! Does anyone know of its origin?
I'm so glad it's not the Nolans, who looked like they might fit
This is the most depressing blind ever. Not the blind, I couldn’t care less. It’s hearing about all these wonderful movies being remade into definite crap!
Was Jackie Chan subjected to abuse on the set of Shanghai Noon?
