Tom Cruise & Katie Holmes Divorcing

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are divorcing after five years of marriage, reports People magazine. I have been saying this for awhile. Glad to see Katie's rep finally confirming it.

  2. @Amartel, I agree with most of what you posted but not this:
oes Tom Cruise owe you the truth about his private life? No.

He spread his private life and specifically his courtship and relationship with Katie all over everywhere. TMI begets TMI. And if you are called on your BS (not you! Tom) you have no one to blame but yourself.

  3. long time reader but a first time commenter.

i know that everyone comments on how each wife is 11 years younger than the last, but doing some reading, isn't it sort of strange that each of his wives divorced him when they were 33?

  4. "-There’s a rumour going around that I can’t lock down that she wants new staff around her and doesn’t want to be spied on anymore."

Translating that into the current context: She's already fired or fled from the cocoon of COS drones with which Tom had surrounded her and is already safely ensconced somewhere with Suri that Tom can't reach her, with a new, non-COS support staff protecting her. That's what I'd do if I were Daddy Holmes.

(Actually, no, if I were Daddy Holmes I'd have Katie and Suri holed up in a deactivated Minuteman LCC with a couple of platoons of ex-SAS guarding all the entrances.)

This is getting interesting, folks. What were we saying about the rotten edifice that is COS starting to crumble? It will be intriguing to see who in Hollywood offers Katie sympathy and support.

  5. Divorce is sad but let's not pretend this was a real marriage. There was always a time limit on their time together. Katie looks happier lately. I do feel sorry for Suri. Even if Tom is not her biological father, he is her dad. She will find it tough.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I'd be more than happy to give her some "support".

  7. Couldn't this spell freedom for TC as well? If he came out of the closet now that the "church" is vulnerable he could eliminate any and all blackmail threats for the rest of his life. What film career is he preserving by pretending to be straight? He's turning 50 --it's unlikely he'll ever play a romantic lead again, so he needn't fear backlash from casting agents. Plus, he knows how to produce his own films. I just think he goes to more trouble inventing a fictional life than the returns are probably worth.

  8. Amartel, Katie was an adult, if she's in a loveless beard-marriage, it IS her own responsibility. But to me, this is about supporting Katie's fight for Suri.
She signed up for this quickly and may have been overwhelmed at the prospect of being a single mother. We all make mistakes in stressful situations. But she deserves contact with her child.

Nicole was completely cut from her children's lives, and nobody wants to see that happen to little Suri. That's why I'M thrilled for Katie today. It looks like somebody finally stood up to the invincible, devious Mr. Cruise.

Bizarrely, every indication is that Tom actually believes in all that COS bullshit. Which is weird because after the revelation about OT III I don't think any other celebrity really believes in the tenets of COS anymore. I doubt that even Miscaivige has the blind faith in all of COS tech that Tom does.

Tom doesn't want out, he wants further in. Mark my words, he will end up being the Savanarola of COS.

  10. 100% co-sign what Libby said above. Team Katie all the way, for Suri's sake if nothing else.

  11. Even my non-gossip-site-lurking mum didn't buy what they were selling with this marriage - when I asked her what she thought about it she said 'oh good, maybe she'll get some work now'!

  12. I live very close to Katie's parents. Her Father is a very well respected Lawyer and also several other family members are Lawyers. His firm does alot of business with NY firms. They are a very nice couple.

  15. Another not shocked person here.

How much dirt could Tom & CO$ possibly have on Katie? She seems so squeaky clean to me. I'll be questioning any negative info I see out there on her.

    ReplyDelete
  16. @Armatel -- Cults brainwash their victims. It's not like "oh well, it's just between consenting adults." They also work to artificially create barriers between their victims and the victims' families and sever natural bonds. And especially with COS, they use the fact that they have celebrity members to recruit non-celebrities, con them and take large portions of their hard-earned money. They are really, truly evil and that is why people here scorn COS celebrities -- their fame is luring in innocent people.

    ReplyDelete
  17. @Ashley OT but I think you're little gray cat is totally adorable.

    ReplyDelete
  18. tmz is saying tom was surprised. is that really possible? i'm imagining katie talking in code to her dad to get things going on the disso. having gone through a custody fight with a gay, ass-hat who wanted the world to see him as the victim; i feel bad for her. you don't want the truth to come out, because of your kids. the power of tom cruise is scary. hope she and her camp are ready for a fight.

    ReplyDelete
  19. @Little Miss Smoke and Mirrors - love the link! That was and excessive amount of snark! I may have to have TWO Margarittas after reading it!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Here's what I've never understood about the Nicole thing: I don't care how good your husband's lawyers are or how rich he is, in the USA a mother will get joint custody of her children unless she's really terrible. Don't know what the deal was with Nicole, but Katie does not have to worry about Tom getting full custody. It won't happen. A court could have forbidden Nicole to move the kids out of the country, but she seems to have made very little effort to stay in their lives. She may have just walked out for money.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I knew it was only a 5 year contract! Plus, in recent paparazzi pics, she always had a big bag of stuff. I'm guessing she was quietly taking stuff from their place, maybe some clothes or sentimental items.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Just a quick question, b/c I see a few people saying there would be little to no leverage if Katie wanted to pull the paternity-test card. I always thought the reason this was a big deal was not simply because Tom isn't the father, but because of who IS the father (L. Ron Hubbard). That was the theory I always heard floated around, anyway. If that was the case I can't think of any way Tom could spin that to his advantage. He can't say he was blindsided or feels betrayed, and that would be seen as beyond creepy and really gets across the extent of CO$' cult status. Of course, if Chris Klein or some other random donor is the father then yeah, there's not much Katie can do to work that in her favor.

And I know divorces are usually painful no matter how amicable, but let's be real, this is the best thing that could have happened for Katie; it's hard not to celebrate her finally getting some kind of freedom. I can almost physically feel the sigh of relief she must have taken when she filed.

  23. "Here's what I've never understood about the Nicole thing: I don't care how good your husband's lawyers are or how rich he is, in the USA a mother will get joint custody of her children unless she's really terrible."

Exactly so, which is why this divorce blizkrieg by Katie & Co. is so intriguing. Katie looked to be easing her way out of the marriage quietly, and now she appears to have reversed field and is preparing to take on Tom (and to an extent COS) in open battle. Why does Katie think that she can win a fight that a much bigger, richer star--Nicole--walked away from?

Aside from the issue of whether or not Nicole really cared about their adopted kids, or the legal issues, I think that the real reason is that the industry power of Tom Cruise has been waning in direct correlation to the crumbling of the menace of COS. Tom's star is clearly in eclipse. He doesn't have the clout to dictate terms to studio heads anymore. Neither does COS have the power to do to Katie what it did to Mike Farrell, or could have done to Nicole.

COS has predicated a lot of its prestige on its celebrity adherents, but how many of those celebs will stick if the influence and menace of COS withers away? Who's going to spend tens of thousands on courses and auditing if your biggest shill is Chick Corea?

    ReplyDelete
  24. I was set to dismiss the thought of Julianne Hough as his next beard but remembered she was just included in that huge Paramount photograph. That seemed off considering she's done nothing important. TC has a long standing relationship with Paramount though and could certainly have helped her in. I could totally see them "falling in love on Rock of Ages" per some "source".

    TC, just come out already.

  26. A couple late breaking tidbits from TMZ:

"Katie Holmes filed for divorce primarily over Tom Cruise's fierce ties to Scientology, fearing that Tom would drag Suri deep into the church ... sources connected with the couple tell TMZ."

"Katie Holmes had a VERY good reason for filing for divorce from Tom Cruise in New York ... because unlike California ... NY is a state that doesn't like giving waring parents joint power to make decisions for their kid."

    ---

So it seems CO$ and Suri have a everything to do with her decision to end the marriage now.
Good for her, and very fortunate that her father is an attorney.

  27. I don't know why I am rooting for Katie, as she knew what she was getting into and has been and will be paid handsomely. But I ams soooo rooting for her.

As an aside, I wonder if we are going to see her looking super fab nowadays. I read somewhere that she might have been having so many fashion faux pas just to fuck with the GMD. I would love it, if she let herself shine. She is beautiful, rich, and has access to all the designes. Why shouldn't she?

    ReplyDelete
  28. ok first of all, yeah she knew what she was getting into....to a degree. I am sure that it was all wrapped up in a pretty little bow (with space symbols on it) for her.

I will just be happy to see her appear to have an actual pulse.

btw, changed my avatar. This would be my 3 year old. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  29. She is beautiful BigMama!

Am I shocked about their marraige ending no.

But I am shocked by the shot across the bow Katie pulled today!

"Tom doesn't want out, he wants further in. Mark my words, he will end up being the Savanarola of COS."

    Please clarify this?

I thought Savanarola wanted to destroy the Renaissance ? Are you comparing Co$ to the Renaissance ?Or the attempt at TC to destroy Co$?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Savanarola almost destroyed the Catholic Church in his puritanical quest to "cleanse" the church. He became such a moral zealot that he defied the Pope...and ended up burned at the stake.

If things get bad enough for COS, I believe that Miscaivige, being at heart a con artist, would be willing to deny OT III and the other kookier aspects of COS "theology" in order to save COS from going the way of Christian Science (i.e., withering away to being a marginal, destitute religion). Probably some large minority of COS celebs would go along with that for the sake of mutual solidarity.

But not Tom. Maybe I'm wrong but I think that infamous Celebrity Center tape of him espousing the primacy of COS tech represents his true and sincere faith. He really believes every word of all that bullshit that Hubbard concocted.

    ReplyDelete
  32. it's a free country, but this mother is also free to try to save her child from falling prey to this batshit crazy cult.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I'm sure someone knows this: When were they last photographed together?

    ReplyDelete
  34. @B.Profane, that is really interesting, thanks for the clarification.

    ReplyDelete
  35. BTW, don't go to TMZ for serious information about the legal aspects. Those dolts are too stupid to pour piss out of a boot, and their copy editing sucks. "Waring parents"?

  40. I am not a lawyer, as I have stated before. But I have paid tens of thousands of dollars in fees to very good family law shysters, have represented myself (successfully!) through a couple of custody tussles and have about half the CA Family Code memorized. I have many, many friends who are attorneys, and you do pick up more than a little re. procedure, common law, the basics of black letter law, etc., over time just by osmosis.

I keep thinking that I should bite the bullet and get a JD just to save on fees, but the plain truth is that most lawyers hate being lawyers!

    ReplyDelete
  41. @ Little Miss Smoke... Laura Prepon is dating Scott Michael Foster. Which is a shame because I want him

    ReplyDelete
  42. I have a friend who knows someone at People Mag; though they won't actually come out & report it (it is Kneepads, after all), apparently Katie gave him the divorce papers in a birthday card. A pretty big FU move.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Unless procedure is different in New York (I'd be surprised if it was), Katie can't serve divorce papers on Tom directly, she has to use a third party.

Doing it via the subterfuge of having a birthday card delivered would be pretty harsh. I don't think her dad would go for that.

  45. OT but @old ;ady, you must live in the Toledo area! I was born and raised there, and almost everyone has a pre-fame Katie Holmes story or another. Honestly, nothing ever positive. Anyway, Martin Sr. has lots of experience with matrimonial law and litigation so it's going to be REAAAALY interesting to see what comes out of this. I want Katie to tell all so bad!

    ReplyDelete
  46. @BProfane, are you an attorney? Your perspective about the NY vs CA choice is interesting.

I agrees with all who refer to the CO$ vulnerability at this time. Never before in the history of the church have there been this many high profile defections. Thanks to the Internet, CO$ has failed at what they used to be the best at: keeping their dirty secrets private,,,ESPECIALLY from members and potential new members.

And google some of the blogs by CO$ apostates recently. Many who have reached the highest echelons in the church are now spilling...and it looks really bad. Apparently Miscaviage is getting crazier, more physically & psychologically violent than ever. Hubbard okayed some pretty nasty sorts of discipline but nothing like the outright sadism practiced by Miscaviage. Many of the church's millions are going into Miscaviage's lavish lifestyle and resentment is brewing from within.

Ironically, CO$ may survive if the majority of the membership somehow jettison Miscaviage ( if that is even possible). But If Miscaviage goes dwn, his best buddy Tom definitely goes with him.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Yep, I second this. But isnt she with seacrest? Wonder how they will spin that.

    ReplyDelete
  48. @On Grain

Can you please share what you claim to KNOW about some type of contract?

I feel bad even asking, but I'm sure you would not make such a claim without hard proof.

    Thank you, in advance!

    ReplyDelete
  49. I feel so sorry for Suri. I hate when kids have to live in the spotlight. Tom is looney tunes and Katie is brainwashed. Hopefully, she can get her life on track and get some life back onto those zombie eyes. I hope she finds joy.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I'm going to be really interested in watching this, since TC and the current leader of Co$ have such raging unapologetic psychopathic personalities. For Katie's sake, I hope she has a lot of protection, but I'm thinking by now she should. Any reader of micro-expressions can see she is determined to fight for her kid and herself and I think has been for a while now, fighting to keep some control over herself even while surrounded by a cult of personality as deeply violent and corrupt as the PRK. To be married to someone whose best friend in the world is such a violent psychotic personality as the leader of Co$ (can't spell his name), makes me shudder. I hope she comes out of this with her kid and her freedom intact. One of my uglier suspicions has involved wondering about the reasons for her kid having certain behavioral issues as she's gotten older, and Katie's constant 'protection mama bear' holding of her, and I hope that isn't true but with Co$ who knows.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Too many comments to read them ALL but I reckon Suri will go to Katie.

Tom may have full rights as a parent despite paternity, but do you think he wants people to know he's not the biological father? Of course not!

Katie will get whatever she wants provided she shuts her mouth about who the real daddy is and makes Suri available for Tom's photo ops.

But OOOOOH I CAN'T WAIT UNTIL SHE TURNS 18! If SURI gets the paternity test done and announces it to the world, well, no contract there eh Tommy?

    ReplyDelete
  52. and not sure if anyone mentioned this but maybe she'll go back. she dosen't see really strong willed to me and he is going to get a lot of bad press....not sure how many people would be on tom's (side) he's gonna try to get her back. RUN katie run!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  53. Katie knew what she was getting into when she married a Scientologist, so I don't have that much sympathy for her. I wonder if she will return to her Catholic faith?

  57. IF at all there was such a fake marriage contract then Katie Holmes would be just as creepy as Tom would be.
If an adult woman... sat down and negotiated a fake mariagge contract with someone she doesnt love, agreed to his religous criteria before hand, and NEGOTIATED TERMS AROUND HER OWN CHILD TO BE it would be viewed as cold. and if it were Jlo she would be trashed up and down this site...

Maybe they atually had a real relationship which didnt work with a really detailed prenup. Stuff happens. wish them luck

  60. Okay TMZ has posted that Katie has the NYC apartment deeded to her as of last August. This makes me think her dad has been giving her advice. If she said "Dad I want out", he would say, don't let Tom file in CA, you need New York so he can't control everything, you need to establish residency. Have him buy you an apartment, have a fight, do whatever you can to get a place in your name in New York".

TMZ says: "But here's the thing ... TMZ has obtained documents which show Tom deeded their NYC apartment to Katie last August and our sources say it was done specifically for tax purposes. Point of fact ... the deed lists a transfer to a trust, but TMZ has confirmed it's a trust established for the benefit of Katie."

This is looking like it could be fun to watch.

Lawyer (mine) also told me interesting story about other Lawyers running the other way when they found out they were going against him. Her family are all nice people and have made it a point to never talk in public about the "crazy midget" my name for him.
