Norm!!!
ReplyDeleteI always thought it was just so-so.
ReplyDeleteCheers is great for nostalgia.. Def not the best show ever but in its prime it was great. Shelly Long was so awesome.
ReplyDeleteThe best show ever IMHO is M.A.S.H.
ReplyDeleteCheers was just ok.
Totally unrelated but Oktoberfest in Ottawa just came in and went and Norm was actually there...He was really grouchy and pretty rude when people asked for pictures and autographs. He even had a booth set up so people were expected to approach him for those things so it wasn't like anyone was hounding him down to get a picture. Weird experience.
ReplyDeleteI was too young to appreciate Cheers when it was on the air, but I love watching the late night re-runs as an adult!
ReplyDeleteNever seen Cheers!
ReplyDeleteLiked it when it was in his heydsy, now absolutely HATE it. Weird, eh?
ReplyDeleteThe first season was best with Coach. Loved Lillith. Didn't much care for Rebecca. Loved, just loved Carla. Even better was her ex-husband and the way he would say "Lo-Ret-uh" to his current wife played by Casey Kasem's wife. Loved this show...
ReplyDeleteI liked Frasier better.
ReplyDeleteNever really liked it for some reason.
ReplyDeleteMy great uncle took me to the cheers bar in Boston when I was 13. We sat in a large window facing the bay. It was beautiful. I drank a sherley temple. I think of that everytime I drink one.
ReplyDeleteI too liked Frasier better, however I watched every season of Cheers.
ReplyDeleteI like to frequent certain businesses. When people get to know me, and they say my name when I walk through the door, I have my Norm moments that make me feel all warm and fuzzy.
It was the cool thing to watch when I was in school. Loved it, haven't seen it in years--terrified it hasn't aged well. Gah! Hard to believe it's been 30 years!
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone else remember the failed spin-off with Mrs Kasem (The Tortellis, I think it was called)? I never watched it, just remember that it existed. :)
Loved them both. @nolachickee - I know the feeling - there's a local deli Mr. B and I eat breakfast at 2-3 times a week - it's so nice when they welcome you by name and know what you want to drink!
ReplyDeleteI watched and liked Cheers. Don't watch the re-runs now.
ReplyDeleteI concur with Roman Holiday...M*A*S*H was better and I'm glad that the season finale for Cheers didn't have higher ratings than the finale for M*A*S*H. And, I will still watch M*A*S*H reruns.
I was too young to appreciate it. I prefer Friends, still funny on reruns.
ReplyDeleteI think the writing on Frasier surpassed the Cheers team. But hey, we all got a Woody out of it.
ReplyDeleteBest sitcom ever, yes. Love that show. Snapdragon, I feel that it's aged well, so watch an epi or four for old time's sake!
ReplyDeleteYet I've never seen one episode of "Frasier." I like Kelsey's work, I love John Mahoney, David Hyde Pierce is wonderful...so I have no idea why this should be. Perhaps when I'm done catching up with my current classic sitcom marathon du jour, I'll check it out.
It's a good show, not the best but good
ReplyDelete@ BF didn't the husband and casey kasem's wife end up with a spin-off show too? I loved Cheers but felt Frasier was better. Tho you can't beat Woody when it comes to making me laugh. We named our daughter kelly and I can't count the times I have sang that damn song to her as she has grown up..."Kelly, kelly, kelly, kelly, kelly, kelly kelly...LMAO
ReplyDeleteI'm too young to know 'Cheers', but I liked the other shows these guys did, like 'Frasier' and 'Wings', so I would probably like it okay if I remembered a single episode of it.
ReplyDeleteAKM, Frasier was great. I think I liked it better than Cheers. Loved all the celeb cameos.

ReplyDeleteI've never heard of this show.
ReplyDelete:-/
I loved Cheers, several of us at work were all great fans and the day after a show the office was full of people recreating the lines between Coach and Sam, or Woody, we'd have ourselves in stitches all over again.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving!

I'll still watch a rerun of cheers from time to time. Woody Harrelson was adorable!
ReplyDeleteFactoid: The guy who played Cliff auditioned for the part of Norm but didn't get it but suggested to the producers that they create a bar know-it-all so the producers created the part of Cliff the Mailman for him. How cool is that?
I can't watch Frasier. It makes me cringe.
I was a big fan for a long time, but I rarely watch now. ITA that Frasier was the better show and I still watch all the time.
ReplyDeleteOooops, too fast with the send button....
ReplyDeleteI watch Frasier on the Hallmark Channel and it's funny what gets dubbed or bleeped. I don't think they can even say "butt"...
Parker Posey was my first thought too, but I haven't read any reports or seen any photos of her out and about. She seems rather low key.
ReplyDeleteI always like the theme song. One of the best.
ReplyDeleteI did so love Woody Harrelson in this show
ReplyDeleteMaybe cause I was born in 1981 I've never watched either of these shows nor do I care to now. Kelsey Grammer just comes off as a dick to me.
ReplyDeleteNow Night Court, that was the shit.
I LOVED Cheers. But I think the best show ever on TV was and will always be The Wonder Years.
ReplyDeleteI adored this show and remember being really sad when it ended. GREAT TV!
ReplyDelete@bobbi_1025, that was the point of his character, stuffy guy around normal Joes.
ReplyDeleteI used to love MASH but now I don't find it appealing.
I've never seen a single episode. I don't watch sitcoms because they are never funny to me.
ReplyDeleteOh geez, I forgot about Night Court - I loved that show!I liked MASH but the last 2 years or so it was like they were trying too hard to be socially relevant or something. Also loved Wings too.
ReplyDeleteClassic! Filled many family-TV-watching evenings, for sure. Nothing like that, these days...
ReplyDeleteI watched it in its later years (when I was old enough), and have watched the earlier years in re-runs. My mother met Ted Danson at a conference a few years ago-- he signed his autograph as "Cheers! Ted Danson." :)
ReplyDeleteOh, and Diane > Rebecca.
ITA, NYCGirl... I loved the Diane years... hated the Rebecca years. There are quite a few of the Rebecca episodes I've never seen. But I loved it from the first episode (well, except for Rebecca). The guy I was seeing at the time knew if he wanted to see me on Thursday night... he was gonna watch Cheers!
ReplyDeleteAKM ... Three of the most perfect Frasier episodes:
The Ski Lodge, Season 5
Merry Christmas, Mrs. Moskowitz, Season 6
Three Valentines, Season 6.
All sheer perfection and comic timing!
OH! and Lilith is a goddess! There was one (Frasier) episode, where she walked across the room in a blue sleepshirt... I about fell out of my chair! (And i'm straight! but she was beyond gorgeous).
Let's celebrate with some lubster and bef.
ReplyDeleteCheers had a great theme song. Not the best show ever but I loved it and Frasier.
ReplyDeleteOne of the best sitcom pilots ever, and the first 5 years are fantastic. The rest are good too--just not quite as good!
ReplyDeleteI loved Cheers, but is it the BEST show ever on TV? Not at all. I can only watch certain seasons now - the later ones with Sam & Rebecca trying to have a baby was just a mess. As for Fraiser? I spend my Friday nights with him. Love that show and have seen every episode multiple times.
ReplyDeleteWell, the best sitcom ever is different from the best TV show ever. (That would, of course, be "The Twilight Zone," which coincidentally premiered on this date in 1959. Hee hee.) "Best sitcom?" was the actual question.
ReplyDeleteI do think it's the best sitcom ever. Well, maybe tied with "M.A.S.H.," which I've actually never seen, but this is what I hear. Or maybe "All In the Family." Or WKRP. Or Mary Tyler Moore.
Huh.
Okay, I'm going to revise my answer and call "Cheers" the best sitcom to come out of the '80s. That...gives me some leeway. ;-)
