Today's Blind Items- The War Of The Show

Even though there are hundreds of great stories about producers and showrunner's I rarely write about them unless they also involve some celebrity because it's hard to describe a showrunner to a point where you could even garner a guess. This story was so crazy though that I had to write about it. The show is an almost television show. Did really well so it was renewed for another season with some conditions. The studio wanted it to be less depressing. Honestly, that was probably a pretty good note. They also wanted production to move at a little faster pace. The showrunner said sure and shooting began. Except that it didn't really begin.

Our showrunner, instead of speeding things up was actually running things even more slowly. Entire days of filming were wasted because of the sets he was having built. Massive sets from scratch built in public places that were taking days to build instead of hours. The scripts were no less depressing and if anything, were even more of a downer than the previous season. This led to a confrontation between the studio and the showrunner. After lots of yelling and screaming, things seemed to have been worked out. Nope.

Our showrunner just kept doing what they had been doing. So, after another week of this, the studio started e-mailing the showrunner. No response. Calling. No response. texting. No response. That left other members of the production team to deliver all of the messages which put the team on edge. Then, the suits came to town again to talk personally to our showrunner but he barricaded himself in a room on the set which was inside a television studio. He stayed there for eight hours refusing to come out. Finally he emerged, but only because he had to use the restroom. He was escorted off the set and fired from the show.

A replacement was brought in, but the showrunner had destroyed so many files about the show it took a long time before everything could be pieced back together as close to the original way as possible.

this isn't the answer but "The Killing " was really depressing & slow-paced ..I don't believe anyone smiled on that one..(I loved the show btw) Another really dark depressing show was Top Of The Lake....and graceland too

I know none of these are 'almost tv' but this blind just reminded me about how drawn out & depressing "the killing" was...

My first thought was True Detective but I never watched the second series so I don't know if they needed sets outdoors

The Leftovers?

The Leftovers makes me crazy. It insists upon itself.

I love both of those so much and now I'll check out Graceland thanks!

The Walking Dead has gone through showrunners like nobody's business, Darabont, Mazzara, Whimple/Gimple

+1

Unless there's another successful Netflix/Hulu show that changed showrunners between the first and second season, it's gotta be Daredevil.

Steven DeKnight is the fired showrunner

Man in the High Castle on Amazon Prime is who came to mind at first, but the show is filmed in Canada and the show runner is in Europe. The reason he is no longer show runner is Amazon wanted somebody on set and he didn't want to move there, (from what a friend working on the crew said.) It's interesting because the show has been pretty well received and is getting an awards push for the Emmy awards, but the guy didn't want to move to Canada. Not sure if that's gossip or reality, but it's what I've been hearing.

So maybe the show runner for Daredevil's season one is the correct answer.

Almost television means streaming networks like Netflix or Amazon Prime. HBO is a premium or pay cable channel.

That! I was quite surprised when it was announced that Frank Spotnitz left in the middle of production of the second season. I really liked the first season aswell.

This is definitely the Man in the High Castle.

Zilla1 said...

What does that even mean, "insists upon itself"?

This is what I was thinking as well.

I think maybe Killjoys? Only one season so far, new season to start on July 1.

Last time a blind came up about Bloodline I swore I would not watch Season 2. I lied. I did and really liked it. However, they ended the series before it was supposed to. Lots of things left up in the air. Rumors abound that there may not be a Season 3 because Florida changed their stance on film work exemptions tax-wise. Sure hope not. Really like the actors/actresses involved. Especially Danny. It has put Islamorada on the map.

Probably not the right answer, but my first thought was Narcos, and Season 2 is the last season. No idea if they changed showrunners.

The Killing was a great fucking show. It was all grey, all the time, and slow as molasses but brilliantly done.
