The one home.
I live in a City in the middle of England FFS, any journey over about 3 hours and i'm in the sea. We don't do 'road trips', the M1 'aint exactly route 66.
Instead of having massively expensive wedding, the husband and I took a month and drove to Vegas to get married, stopped at a ton of places along the way and if anyone who wanted to come to the wedding they caught a cheap flight and came down.
LA to Houston in a 20ft Ryder truck with my dad 25 yrs ago. worst part was when we hit El Paso we were still closer to LA than Houston.
Up the coast of Maine. So many charming seafront towns. And the lobster was incredible.
Barely legal age from the Midwest down to New Orleans. Three girls and a convertible. When I'm old, senile, and sitting in a rocking chair I'll be smiling just remembering those days.
Probably my road trip from my post in West Germany to Paris back when they didn't riot very much.
Me, 3 cats, 2 dogs moved from Dallas to Boston. Long fking trip with cats. The dogs were great though.
The Great River Road, 1993. I drove along the western side of the Mississippi from the Quad Cities to the Twin Cities, then along the eastern side on the way back. So many towns, so much nature, very many photographs. If I had a digital camera then, I would have taken three times as long just snapping pics.
Maybe not the best, but definitely the most meaningful.. driving a senior chocolate Lab named Tango from Dallas, TX to his next rescue ride in Birmingham, AL. He had various health issues due to age, but he was hilarious, lived like someone left the gate open, and made the trip unforgettable. He truly enjoyed his remaining time to the fullest, but passed away a few years later while humping a pillow. God love him, I'll always remember how much Tango made me laugh.
I'm with Brayson87.
In 1976, while on leave from the US ARMY & before being shipped to Germany, I drove my Datsun B210 hatchback from Fort Campbell, KY to my parents home just south of Boston.
It took two days -- but I spent a day in Washington, DC touring the sites there.
Never been back there.
(I don't think I want to go again.)
Short trip from Terre Haute IN to the suburbs outside of Gary IN ("the Region") to help a friend move some furniture home at semester end. He had broken up with his long time girl friend; I didn't have anything better to do that day. Trying to explain the "relationship"/ lack there of to his parents was a hoot! We road his motorcycle around town while he showed me his home haunts.
upon return to college town we went our separate ways. Yes, he got back with the girlfriend. I saw them at a bar the night before I married. On visit back home fifteen later I read in the town paper he and his ex-wife are suing each for divorce.
I laugh about the memory!
not sure i can create a run on sentence without punctuation or by adding several extraneous thoughts together in an unreadable mush to make entry proud so i won't post anything ok?
A wonderful trip from Phoenix to San Diego and up the coast as far north as Marin County back in the early 80's. I fell in love with that state and so want to return sometime. One disclaimer, I did not fall in love with LA. We could have skipped that spot.
Awwww @AnitaKnapp, that is sweet!
Mine was probably driving through Mount Rushmore, Wyoming, and Boulder then down to Red Rocks to see Duran Duran with a brief visit to the dispensary.
@Justan
Yeah... Texas is like 5 states big.
I live in Texas, and have family in Missouri that are a closer drive than certain family in Texas.
I've had a few but the one that stands out the best is the one with my BFF who passed away a few years ago. We were in our 20's, we drove from Austin to L.A. then on to SF. We took our time, and taking HWY 1. So spectacular.
Red Rocks...U2...Under The Blood Red Sky ❤
Grand Canyon from L.A. with a stop in Laughlin, NV.
Pittsburgh to Toronto. 25 or so of us from my high school. In dead of winter. We had just won a state level singing contest. The bus trip was a gift from our vocal coach. Pure joy, fun, before we all went off to college

I flew to NYC from LAX in the early 90’s to drive back cross country in a 68’ Camero with my best friend at the time. She had moved there a year earlier with her boyfriend, but they ended things and she wanted to come back home. It was me, her, her bird, 2 snakes, and a few tarantulas. Every night we’d have to sneak the animals into our hotel room. I was in my early 20’s and it was such a fun trip! We broke down, we hit crazy weather, and her bird drove me nuts whistling the theme to Andy Griffith (of which it only knew half the song!) but it was a memory I’ll never forget.
A ten day trip to Italy my husband and I took with a chorus I sing with. Highlight of the whole trip was singing a mass in the Vatican. I'm not Catholic, but it was one of the most profoundly moving things I've ever had the honor of doing.
Halifax to Montreal. Did them every summer while in university.
Cooperstown, NY during Christmastime.
south of france.
+1 Brayson
Me, b/f and two other friends flew to London, rented a car and drove to Wales (where one in our party had a friend who threw a party for us), then drove up to Scotland and then down to London again. We were there two weeks and saw so many castles that I lost count.
Up the Alcan highway to Alaska.
We drove with my husband's cousin to his house in Iowa. From there kind of did a Kevin Costner tour - went to Dyersville (Field of Dreams), then we rode the Harley through South Dakota to get married in Sturgis - one mile south from where they shot the final scene of Dances With Wolves. Begged husband for us to be married at that spot. He said no because the road was all gravel at the time and he didn't want any dings on his Harley. So we got married at Roughlock Falls.
In college, my friends and I talked one of our frat bros into borrowing his brother's car. Then we took off with a few cases of beer and some girls we met at a local girl's school. We drank and drove and stopped at a juke joint in the middle of nowhere. We got into a fight with some black dudes and ran out of there as fast as we could. We left the girls behind.
Ah good times
Austin Texas in the early to mid 90's.
I'd take road trips there and hit all the bookstores, guitar shops, music stores, and clubs.
Now you couldn't pay me to visit there.
Galveston and San Antonio are my faves now.
@longtimereader - Me too, only I live in my home town in Warwickshire. Are you in Birmingham or Coventry?
In the hot summer of 1976, I hitchhiked with my bff all over the North of England and Wales. Met some great people and had a wonderful time. Ended up living up North for the next 10 years or so.
Rode my bike from Dublin to Tralee in Ireland when I was 18. Took me three weeks. Stayed in shitty guest houses and even camped out a few nights. Just rode and stopped whenever I saw something beautiful. Met the nicest people I’ve ever come across in all my travels on the trip.
