Kate Winslet And Sam Mendes Split
This is a relationship I never thought would end, but it did. In a joint statement, the pair have decided to end their seven year marriage. "Kate and Sam are saddened to announce that they separated earlier this year. The split is entirely amicable and is by mutual agreement. Both parties are fully committed to the future joint parenting of their children."
The couple were married in 2003 and they have one 6 year old son together. Kate has a daughter from a previous relationship with Jim Threapleton.

This sucks. She's one of my personal favorites, because she's real, and he seems like a cool guy. They are both excellent at their crafts. I too, did not believe this relationship would end.

I hope this is just a case of they grew apart as time went on. I hope he didn't do something sleazy like sleep with an actress on set.

Lutefisk: I immediatly thought of a blind a way back that was Kate was the common guess to. Can't remember though :/ Last year? It was recent.
I think it means I spend too much time on CDAN when the first thing I though was "I wonder if this is the answer to any blinds!"
I like Kate Winslet though, and it always seemed to me that these two were quite normal.

I thought they wud last since they seemed so down to earth but I do remember being a lil alarmed when she gushed about her love for Leo in her Oscar's award speech and mentioned a few words about Sam. I thought that was so wierd but maybe its around the time they started having problems.
when you see "revolutionary road"(he was the director and she was the actress), you can ask on their relationship! and she barely thanked him in GG!

what surprised me is that they managed to keep it hidden for so long. It makes me happy to think about what a private, normal life they seem to have, esp for their kid (s?)
@Adventurous Kate, I agree it's the Oscar curse. Wow another marriage bites the dust. I didn't expect it this year but yeah, I agree last year when she won one of the awards probably GG she gushed about Leo and barely mentioned her husband. She said he already knew how she felt about him.
Maybe that's why she's looking so radiant now because the weight of the marriage is over.

Oh, and really, I don't think celebrity marriages have a chance, ever.
Her never-ending rants of insecurity "I was a fat ugly girl" could be unpleasant to live with... too bad. She is gorgeous, a bright spirit and incredible talent. Sad for all of them.
Her Oscar speech last year was narcissistic and annoying. I stopped liking her that night. I guess Sam did too.
BTW, he has an Oscar as well.

I guess this explains her recent weight loss. Too bad. I hate to hear of any couple celebrity or not that can't make it work, especially when there are children involved.

That's sad, but I'm sure they didn't come about this decision lightly. But, on another note, it is nice to see a couple behaving maturely, with a joint statement that expresses mutual respect. It's much better than the he said/she said crap we see from a lot of divorces.
@Gretchen: the man in the pic is Kate's ex husband Jim Threapleton. Mendes is a chubster.
Love the picture with her daughter wearing leggings with dirty knees. That's how normal kids look...definitely not something you'd see from most celebrities' kids, like Suri, the child-adult.
I was thinking they fit that blind everyone assumed as Kate Beckinsale, a barely clinging on marriage between an actress & a movie "player"....or something?

Even though most of us would kill to be as beautiful as Kate, I doubt he digs her.

I am ambivalent about this but my shallow side is kinda glad. I mean Kate is wayyyyy hotter than him, right? Why do women always settle for the uggos and men never do that?

Jasmine - if it helps, I like Kate, but I've always had a sneaking suspicion she left Threapleton to for Mendes to further her career.
Now that she has that Oscar, she's done with him. I hope I'm so very wrong and so far off.
the truth was, like many ppl, i was and still am slightly disapointed that she lost all that weight. To me it feels like, damn, cant we have one chick who is comfortable with being a size 8? holy shit.

www.dailymail.co.uk has an interesting article on her marriages. It's not scandalous but makes sense. I always thought the way she left the 1st husband, Jim Threapleton, was so sudden and unexpected; I was certain until I read the daily mail comments that he had some deviant problem she discovered. I'm suprised if that's really him in the photo with the two children, he's unbelievably low-key for an ex. It looks like him though.
Anyone think she might get back together with Jim?
