She did a good job.
Lady Antebelum was great.
I was in tears watching it yesterday. Best host since Zach Gallafawhateveryacallit's first time!

Loved her as the wannabe Mae West character and when she played the chick who was in love with her officemate HIIIILARIOUS
good for her! she's so cute and underrated, i'm happy she's finally getting some attn. i can't wait to see the sitcom he has in development.
I only saw a couple of the skits, but the one where she was in a focus group testing salad dressing had me howling...she is hilarious!
She was funny, but I thought they made her into a Chris Farley. everything was related to her being fat.
I thought the fat thing was overdone too Parissucks. But, SNL overdoes everything. The one skit where she had food all over herself was too much. I wished she and Kristin would have really danced instead of bringing in the two SKINNY shadow dancers.
Finally saw "Bridesmaids" and she made the movie for me. Otherwise I thought it was meh. Didn't know she was on SNL. Thanks for the clips!
I thought she was brilliant. She's a lovely woman, gifted comedian & excellent at physical comedy.
I didn't see 'the fat thing' some have mentioned.
Chris Farley played up his size & made it another character - like competing with Patrick Swayze for a dance job, the motivational speaker who lived in his car, etc.. Those characters wouldn't have worked as well for a smaller size comedian.
I didn't see that from Melissa McCarthy. She played many characters - anyone of which could have been played by any size performer. She approaches physical comedy in a fearless Gilda Radner way that is both hilarious & endearing.
The salad dressing!?! We saw it coming, knew it would be gross & just couldn't look away! Ala Dan Akroyd Bass-O-Matic..

OMG, I forgot about the Bass-O-Matic!! haha! The focus group/ranch skit was my fav also.
I thought she killed it on SNL. I just love her and am glad she is getting her time in the limelight. She was hilarious in Bridesmaids, which I think might be one of my new favorite movies.
Haven't seen Bridesmaids (yet) and wasn't familiar with her work until I saw the ranch dressing skit on another site. It was apparent from that one sketch that her timing is brilliant. I'll gladly watch more of her work if it's not all fat jokes.
The Mae West character KILLED
So great to see SNL finally nail a skit and utilize the talent and skills of such an obviously gifted comedienne.
I could see the Farley type vibe too--- when the focus is obviously on that in more than a few sketches it makes me feel like its just as bad as when a black actor is given all the player/pimp/drug dealer/sports guy roles---just as stereotypical and marginalizing.
She and Kristen Wiig actually have a lot in common when it comes to physical comedy - neither of them is afraid to look ugly. It becomes more obvious with Melissa maybe, because she isn't skinny - fact is, we're just not used to seeing plus sized women on TV, and we're still being told that big is not as good as skinny, so if a bigger woman is willing to make fun of herself and the fact that she doesn't meet society's beauty standards (even though I think she's freaking gorgeous), it makes us laugh but it also has the potential to make us feel uncomfortable. There is a stigma attached to being fat and funny, the class clown thing, crying on the inside and all that bullshit. Maybe she just wanted to make people laugh, because she is a brilliant comedic actor and it's what she does? :)
I love her and that fact that she is fearless and game to do anything. Her timing and delivery are a comedic treasure. But I thought the writers really failed her. Parissucksliterally and Califblondy are right. There was only one skit that wasn't about her body in some way, and that was the LAST one, so most people probably missed it. Really, SNL writers, REALLY?
(p.s. That wouldn't have happened if Tina Fey was still head writer, just sayin'.)
Maja - I take your point, but I still think it was incredibly lazy on the writers' part.
First time I saw her in M&M I though what an amazing talent. I hope they recongnize her talent and it's nice to see that they have! Five dollars says she now starts to lose weight!
And now that I have seen the few clips it reminds me how bad the writing can be on SNL..They just don't when to end a skit.
I'm with you, Maja :) I was reading an interview with her husband and he was saying she's always just done ANYTHING to make people laugh. I'm paraphrasing here, but apparently one time she climbed up on a roof and did something wacky to make people laugh and ended up breaking her arm, and only wanted to know afterwards if people laughed.
