Woke to the sad news this morning. He was the best tv villain in my opinion. May his soul rest in peace.
ReplyDeleteRead this last night and was surprised by how sad I felt, we watched and enjoyed the Dallas reboot, his eyebrows should have had their own credit! RIP, to the best soap opera villain of all time.
ReplyDeleteI'm surprised how much I feel - grew up watching Jeannie in the 60s, loved him then, and of course Dallas. He was a very cool guy with a big heart and a wicked sense of humor.
ReplyDeleteThink he EVER got to se Barbara Eden's belly button?
ReplyDeleteIs a liver transplant the norm for someone who damaged it from drinking? I read elsewhere that he had one, and was kind of surprised. I know next to nothing about transplants, though.
ReplyDeleteI remember it being controversial at the time. A lot of ppl said he got the liver because of who he was, and that an ordinary drunk wouldn't have been given one. What I don't know is whether he continued to drink. I hope he made the most of his second chance.
DeleteHe got to 81 still delighting millions so yeah u could say he made the most of it!!!
DeleteI loved him as Tony Nelson in I dream of Jeannie and he was great in Dallas of course. RIP
ReplyDeleteI used to sit on my gramma's lap and watch I Dream of Jeannie. He was one of my first crushes. :( RIP, good sir.
ReplyDeleteI used to watch both with my nan. Good memories! :)
DeleteDrinkers can receive liver transplants, BUT there is a list of things they must stick to in order to receive the transplant when their turn comes up. Neighbor lost his chance because he wasn't attneding AA meeting in accordance to the agreement. He dropped dead on his door step, and he laid there in the snow for three days until one of his workmen found him.
ReplyDeleteTanie - yes he quit drinking and smoking, and spoke out against it,
ReplyDelete"Oh Master!"- im sorry. Sleep deprived and just had to.
ReplyDeleteI dream of jeannie was my favorite show growing up. He will always be tony nelson because i never saw dallas. Isn't he in the reboot?
I am surprised at how long he lived after the transplant. I read that recently he had a different type of cancer, so the news isn't really shocking...but I am sad to hear it. Loved him as JR and on Jeannie. I'm glad he had the chance to reprise his role. He will be missed.
ReplyDeleteso sad. RIP Major Nelson
ReplyDeleteHe was the only good thing about the Dallas reboot. The few episodes he wasn't in, the episodes were boring. He really wanted to work he was battling throat cancer when filming started and kept working around chemo treatments. He kept it quiet beucase he didn't want issues with being insured.
ReplyDeleteHe was clearly in ill health but his eyes still sparkled and his acting was still top notch.
I can imagine how they will continue without him, he was the heart of the show.
And somebody tell me how many producers Jesse Metcalfe is sleeping with to keep his job. He is god awful in it. Josh Henderson at least is authentic playing a douchebag.
First of all R.I.P. Mr.Hagman, I never watched Dallas but I enjoy(ed) I Dream Of Jeannie from time to time.
ReplyDeleteSecond of all, YES timebob, Jesse Metcalfe is insufferable. He seemed to fall off the face of the earth after his initial Desperate Housewives PopCult Explosion, and I was fine with it, then I see he gets this gig. Dude was on some talk show and he just had this air about him that he is hot shit and thought his dumb clip was Emmy-worthy brilliance.
You nailed that critique timebob! You could see how much fun he was having, and how he clearly relished playing that role again.
ReplyDeleteAnd I read this morning that he had filmed several episodes for the second season, despite his treatments. They will write his death in and give him a proper send off, the show won't be the same.
Maj.Heely/J.R. Ewing,Hagman had a range.
ReplyDeleteGreat Television icon
I loved this man. First of all, I live in Dallas, watched the show and thought he was the best thing about it. Plus he was born in Fort Worth - where I grew up.
ReplyDeleteI remember watching reruns of I Dream of Jeannie too.
About receiving liver transplants.....David Crosby got one also. Both were controversial.
So sad. I love the villainous JR he played in Dallas.
ReplyDeleteI give Hagman credit in realizing how lucky he was to get a transplant, especially with his hard-living past. He didn't take it for granted. He stopped drinking and smoking and led a healthy lifestyle after the transplant. He became a vegetarian at one point to lose some extra weight.
ReplyDeleteWhat's amazing in reading tributes for Hagman is how he stayed in touch with so many of his co-stars over the years. Patrick Duffy and Linda Gray were with Hagman and his family when he passed away. Those three have been together for 35 years and it's amazing to know how much they meant to one another.
Hagman was more a character than even JR Ewing. He had such a great devil-may-care attitude toward life and didn't seem to hold grudges. He reconciled with his mother, Mary Martin, in spite of having a pretty bumpy childhood. He was also very open-minded on many subjects. Such a wonderful free spirit.
I think the new Dallas is good, but no JR isn't something anyone is looking forward to. Who Shot JR was a watershed pop-culture moment and one that would be difficult to create today.
And it's pretty obvious that Jesse Metcalfe is the odd one out with the younger cast members. You'll see the others post photos from the set and Jordana, Josh, and Julie are chumming it up. But no Jesse. Some tabloid said he was jealous of the attention Josh was getting for becoming the breakout star of the show. The other three seem happy to have a steady job, even with them getting some gigs before Dallas. Metcalfe acts almost above it all. He's pretty smug to have just been rescued from the side of the milk carton.
RIP. Now he's with his mom, the lovely Mary Martin.
ReplyDeleteRIP, good sir. You were such a major part of my childhood with Jeannie, and then my teens with Dallas! Thank you for giving me so many fond memories; I had an awful life growing up, but believe me--you helped so much. :)
ReplyDeleteI think Major Anthony Nelson was my first TV crush.
ReplyDeleteRIP Larry
RIP Larry. I loved you in Dallas and I Dream of Jeanie. You were so handsome!
ReplyDeleteThis was such sad news. Like so many others, I loved his work. He is one of the actors who will truly be missed.
ReplyDeleteI heard the news last night. Very sad. :(
ReplyDeleteRip. u will be missed.
ReplyDelete:-(.....RIP Larry.
ReplyDeleteWonderful actor. I love how he worked til the very end. Good for him.
