Oh. We're supposed to pass out the candy?

I carry on a family tradition - don't be home, that way you don't have to buy candy.

I give out full packs of gum. I used to give out hot chocolate with marshmallows. The chocolate candy I buy, intending to give out to trick-or-treaters, usually gets eaten before Halloween.

Chocolate bars and chips. It's what I loved best as a kid.

None. We live on a country road. But if I did it'd be Kit Kats and Krackles. Oh, and MnM'ns

Sherry said...

Me too Mary but I tuck mine in apples.

Seriously how did that urban legend ever get started? Probably some mom who didn't want to bother with Halloween altogether.

@VIP, you slay me! Perfect gif of the day.

I used to stock up and never got any trick or treaters so I would end up eating the crap. Now I just don't buy any.

@Sherry LOL I recall getting an apple one year and my Mom and my aunts freaked: "Don't touch that apple!!" and one of them very carefully picked it up and threw it away. LOL

Kit Kats, Twix, Starburst, Nerds, Laffy Taffy, Sour Patch Kids, Tootsie Rolls. And I'm totally rocking out Rice Krispy Treats in the shape of candy corn for my neighborhood kids/nieces/nephews. I found the recipe on Pinterest and it looks hella cool. I also organize holiday cookie extravaganzas where the kids in my world decorate to their heart's content. And then I clean my house like a lunatic. I did this shit even before I had kids (I'm a crazy aunt 9 times over). A lot of you are Halloween grinches! LOL.

I live in a condo complex that is mostly elderly and retired people (it isn't zoned that way, just attracks older people). So I have NO trick or treaters. Don't even bother.

West End Girl said...

I don't. I usually ignore the doorbell and carry on with my life. The tradition isn't one I like or would want to participate in.

Gayeld said...

The kind I won't eat, so it will make it until Halloween. So, anything with caramel.

ethorne said...

Me too FSP! Peanut butter flavored Class Ring Pops.

@VIP-Yaasssssss!!!!!

I hand out pamphlets about Jesus Christ and how to avoid a fiery eternity.

Count Jerkula said...

Xanax and Nyquil.

CeCe said...

Whatever is on sale and left over at the store the day of Halloween.

Leo said...

The word "attracks" is awesome and I predict it'll be the new buzz word in a year or two

Gayeld said...

@Count. I'm coming to your house.

I don't hand out candy because I don't want to be like everyone else. I hand out little toys that I get from Oriental Trading Company. Every year I hand out a rubber ducky and something else. I have people come every year just for the ducks.

Sherry said...

And Meanie did they find the blade? No of course not. It was usually old people who gave you fruit and homemade stuff cuz they lived through the depression and felt these were healthier for you.

Sherry said...

I'm sorry to tell you Jack but the chirrens are laughing at you.

JK!

We have zero trick or treaters so no need to buy. Often I will go into a neighborhood and tell them my little one is too shy and collect the candy. I point to a group of kids when they ask where my child is. Of course I have no children but it works like a charm. I'm avoiding Jacks house this year and making a beeline to the Counts.

Not customary here so I have to pass plastic bags instead of candy.

Canadian dimes. I live in Florida, but whateva.

Unknown said...

You mean what kind of candy do I intend to pass out, but instead eat the whole bag myself and pass out?

OneEyeCharlie said...

For the cute, little kids: full size Hersheys, Payday, Baby Ruth.

For the mid-range group: Nerds, Bottlecaps, Runts

For the A-holes who don't even try: Jolly Rancher or the really crappy, dried out Blackjacks.

Yes, I do keep three separate bowls, and if a wee girl comes dressed as an adorable princess I've been known to virtually empty the first bowl into her bag..

@Pip. That's what Kirk Cameron does.

That's not even a joke. Dude actually does that.

PotPourri said...

I buy chocolates, and mini bags of Skittles and M&M's. I give out the good stuff!

Seven of Eleven said...

They have plastic bags in Spain?

califblondy said...

I give one to big kids and I even get adults! Little ones get a bunch and I tell them how cute they look. The big peeps get my bitchy "aren't you a little old for this." I give all chocolate. Snickers, M&Ms, Milky Ways. I get repeat offenders.

Pogue Mahone said...

We don't celebrate it.

NaughtyNurse said...

The kids in my neighborhood get only the best candy from my house. We have a very long, steep driveway, so they get all the M&Ms, Snickers, Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, Butterfingers, etc. that their little hands can grab after making the hike to our door.

Freya said...

I usually forget. End up passing out peppermints or gum.

Pip said...

Jason, I heard Cameron walks door to door handing out pamphlets. Being Kirk Cameron's child would blow!

Frufra said...

We do chocolate and all that sour crap the kids these days love. But here in our little perfect suburb, you aren't shit unless you hand out full sized candy bars. So, we're like the minor leagues with our snack sized offerings.

Anybody else live in a community that postpones trick-or-treating if the 31st falls on a Sunday? I'd never heard of such until we moved here. And I was floored when EVERYONE trick-or-treated on the designated day. Not one doorbell ring on the 31st. What the heck, dude? Jesus apparently hates trick-or-treating on the Lord's day, but is good to go every other day of the week.

Alexa Rose said...

Snickers, Reeses, and bubble gum. All of my favorites.

OneEyeCharlie said...

@Frufra I live in an area that postpones Halloween. When I was younger, the McDonald's would be closed on Sundays. They're open now, so it seems like a hotbed of progressiveness.

Frufra said...

@Charlie - I'm from Texas, so I grew up with blue laws aplenty - I remember it was huge when the mall started opening on Sunday. My father really frowned on a Sunday afternoon shopping trip, even if we made it home in plenty of time for Sunday night church. But I'd never seen tricks and treats postponed like that. Oklahoma out Bible-belts Texas, I reckon.

My husband gets some of my ass candy. Kids here don't see to trick or treat but I did have to hand out vegan "yoghurt" and dried fruit mix to so e really disappointed looking kids 2 years ago. I'll stock up On all that evil sugary shit this year, and if there's no takers, hide it from my husband.
