Your Turn

Sephora pulled a lipstick from their shelves from the Kat Von D line. Putting aside the wonderment of why Sephora would give Kat Von D space on their shelves they pulled the lipstick because of complaints about the name which is Celebutard. Offensive?

I think so. Not as much as the actual "R"-word or the "N"-word, but just bad policy to use it in general. A friend and I used to be fond of "fucktard," but I don't use it anymore, either.

Cleodacat said...

Whose's even buying that shit? That's just as bad as the K-Trash line and the Blohan leggings.

rajahcat said...

Well perhaps on the pc meter-yes

but that would be an insult to mentally disabled persons to compare them to dumb celebrities

so not in the way they think though

WareCat said...

no way. i dn't think so.
the only reason i shop @ Sephora is cuz they dn't sell Kat's tattoo liquid eyeliner @ Ulta. i've never been a fan of Kat, but i do like her makeup line & her Sin perfume.

Susan said...

It's kind of offensive. Not as bad at the R word.... There is no place for misuse of the R work in today's society.

JSierra said...

I think the main insult here is Sephora assuming we would want to actually buy anything Kat Von D sells.

ELF all the way.

Kels said...

Retarded is a bad word. When I found out I had Aspergers my boyfriend called me retarded. Huge fight over that. I've always been an intelligent person so to hear some call me retarded was hard to hear and it really hit me. It wasn't joke anymore after I found out I had autism.

WareCat said...

JSierra- NYX is amazing! its super cheap & colors are highly pigmented.
ELF is the boss of makeup brushes.

I always thought that word should have been celebuturd anyway, defines many of those gals better

Kels said...

Lol I guess it is an insult to be compared to Kat huh?

I think it's great that it's not acceptable to use the "R" word; time was when it was okay and it was used frequently. We've come a long way from when I was a kid in the 70s. :)

So, my vote: pull it!

Unknown said...

No, it's not offensive. Anyone who doesn't understand current vernacular is trying to make themselves upset over nothing. I think they had a couple of complaints and for some reason Sephora didn't ignore them as they should have. It's not an insult to anyone but the Kartrashians at this point and really who'd defend them? I'm more likely to not shop at Sephora over caving to something this stupid than I am about some numbnuts being upset over a made up word referring to the vacuous nothings that make millions for being idiots. Sorry over all the things to be offended by daily, celebutard isn't one of them. Tiny kids shooting themselves day in and day out it something that would be better spent worrying about. But then it is Sephora.

MISCH said...

I've heard great things about NYX, and E.L.F. opened their first store right down the block from my apartment and it's always packed…..
You can't beat it for the money and it's great for teens

I don't know how this made it past Sephora's marketing machine. This type of press companies don't want and usually avoid.

But then again, I never knew how Bic thought making a pen "specifically designed for women" was a good idea either.

PugsterMom said...

I hope you dumped this insensitive dolt. You deserve better. My son is on the low end of Aspergers. I would hit the freaking ceiling if someone referred to him like that.

Bacon Ranch said...

They should have called it If*ckedamarriedmanandifyoubuythissh*tyouareanidiot.

That would have been more accurate.

JoElla said...

Word on the street is, Kat's makeup is fantastic. The next time I am in a Sephora I really want to swatch it and check it out.

This isn't Sephora's only blunder...
Sephora France really screwed up big time. Urban Decay is releasing Naked 3 soon, they just started the big promo for it, but Sephora France had it, was supposed to wait until the end of December/early January for the launch, but they sold it early.

Now pictures are out and about and UD is in a massive rush to launch it.

discoflux said...

Someone must've made a huff because this color has been on their shelves for a WHILE and they were sending out samples of it in ipsy bags a few months back. So, it's not like sephora was totally unaware of it.

LottaColada said...

@JoElla, Kat's eyeshadows have really good pigmentation. I could care less about her name being attached to the make up, it's good quality and that's all that matters. I'm excited for Naked 3 now that you've mentioned it!

amused bush said...

Agree with @Lotta's assessment about the pigmentation. Kat's line is great if you want color. I'm an eyeliner girl and am always looking for colors to compliment my skin tone. Kat Von D is a winner.

Also a huge fan of NYX and ELF. If you are into Nars Blushes, specifically Orgasm, NYX makes an excellent dupe.

WareCat said...

JoElla- SHUT. UP.
they have a Naked 3 coming out?!

ForSure said...

I don't wear makeup at all and I've heard good things about Kat Von D's line. According to beautypedia.com, NYX and ELF are both budget lines that are well worth the time and consideration, and Target is getting all the big ELF collections in for the holidays. You know, 20 eyeshadows for $5 and such.

I always thought celebutard referred to the fans of idiot celebrities. Does it actually refer to the idiot celebrities themselves? My bad.

JSierra said...

Is NYX Kat's line? I could talk about make up all day, it is simply fabulous. Anyone have any good mascara suggestions? My lashes are long but thin, so if the mascara isn't dried out to just the right consistency they clump together into what looks like 6 individual lashes.

LottaColada said...

@V - I'm actually wearing Orgasm right now! :) what's the name of the NYX dupe?

LottaColada said...

@Bacon Ranch, I'm an idiot then. :(

Paint Chips said...

I don't think it's offensive, but I think companies always have to err on the side of caution in these matters.

I overpaid for a Kat Von D eyeshadow pallet when I was out of town recently, but the quality and colors are gorgeous. I use it much more often than my Urban Decay naked 2. I'm also using bare minerals and NYX matte eyeshadows right now, both of which make perfect eyeliners.

amused bush said...

@Lotta - NYX Pinched. It can be hard to find, but if you do, buy it - it's $5!

Seattle_Strips said...

I understand the word is offensive here, but it's a common french word as well, and I've wondered if it has the same derogatory overtones (when not used in a name-calling manner, of course.) Maybe French Girl can illuminate.

WareCat said...

nooooo, JSierra.
NYX i've only seen @Ulta.
i love their Doll Eyes mascara, but try out their Propel My Eyes. its filled w/ B5 & green tea extract.

amused bush said...

NYX is a drugstore makeup line known for dupes of Nars and Mac cosmetics.

Have you tried Lancome Definicils/Loreal Lashout? That might work well for you.

LottaColada said...

@V- cool! I'll be on the lookout, thanks!

amused bush said...

WareCat - not sure where you live, but NYX is also sold at RiteAid, Walgreens, and CVS (at least in WA state).

LottaColada said...

@V and Warecat- my local Target carries NYX. I don't think all of them do though.

WareCat said...

i was just coming to say that V. Cleveland is slacking, cuz i've never seen NYX in drugstores. =(

Beetlejuice said...

NAKED 3?!?!?!

Kat has good mascara, I got a sample, id never buy her stuff.

I need to spend more time on my makeup boards cause i missed the NAKED 3!

Beetlejuice said...

I can find NYX in grocery stores and you can buy online at their website!

WareCat said...

my Target is rite next to Ulta, so i randomly have luck in finding NYX in Targets clearance makeup section.

amused bush said...

@WareCat @Lotta my local target does not carry NYX, which is lame! Boo on them.

Kelly said...

@JSierra I am on my second tube of Flamed Out by Cover Girl and I lurve it! I'm a mascara junkie too. I try them all when they're new. It only takes 2 or 3 coats while I usually do 5 -7. Also it builds and does not clump.
Love ELF for brushes and eyeshadows!

amused bush said...

Happy hunting @Lotta. Which reminds me, I need to find my NYX red blush (a dupe for Nars Exhibit A).

Here is a link for the naked 3

http://polishjinx.blogspot.com/2013/11/urban-decay-naked-3-swatches.html

I never could pull the trigger for the naked palettes. I went with the Balm Nude'tude palette instead.
I always had the 'pretty but..' feeling on those. Been tempted with the Naked Basics though.

I went with UD's Smoked and Fem and Vice 2 palette. Love those to bits.

Sadly I don't have a Ulta or a Sephora near me, only Dillard's and Belk's near me, and they don't carry all of the fun lines. My Target just started carrying NYX and a few select HEB's and Drug Emporium has a small selection of NYX. Currently trying to get my hands on their "Taupe" blush for contoring! That sucker is hard to find!

Wet and Wild 8 pan palettes have a lot of MAC dupes in them as well. And they are dirt cheap and fantastic! Also love their 3 pan shadows.

Current love right now is the Sonia Kashuk "Jewel of an Eye" palette. Love this thing! Check your local Targets for them, they might still be on clearance. I am super impressed with the quality and how easily they blend.

Sonia also has a big palette coming out that has many UD naked dupes in it. And it will be under 30.00!

Here is a link to MusingsofaMuse's blog, scroll down to see it.

Also love Sonia's brushes.

laf Lotta, I meant that for the name behind it, not the actual product.

I would say the same about a Kardashian product, even if it was absolute perfection.

Eros said...

I think its more funny than offensive but if there are alot of over sensitive, politically correct types who probably weren't too pleased by the word choice.

8====D KermitGossnellKnobjob said...

I don't find it offensive at all. I find my own grammar and ortography way worse.
This aside, it's a rword/dword/.word name: Who would like to wear something called "celebutard".
I can imagine buyers shouting "I wear this, I'm a celebutard!" in the streets after using it.

iheartjacksparrow said...

I don't find it offensive, and being PC keeps getting more ridiculous. Next thing, they'll be taking leotards out of stores because of the name.

Resident makeup expert here:

Kat Von D's makeup line actually does really well at Sephora, as in, I don't believe the blinds about her being broke are true.

Jennabean said...

I would agree with you but the make up artist that did me for my wedding swears by it she said the Kay Von d make up stays the longest an there actually are some really nice colors. I buy it now it's a really good product . ( slowly backing away blushing)

Susan said...

The Naked 2 palette is all that and more. I love it! Can't wait to get my hands on the new one.

I'm also a Buxom lip plumper and gloss whore as well. Love that shit. It's pretty much only sold at Sephora.

And I REALLY want a bottle of Gucci Premiere, but I don't know if I should splurge or hold out for Santa Claus times. I have enough Chanel Mademoiselle to get me through.

Sephora is having friends and fam 20 percent off right now. Code is VIBTOPIA.

KatVon D's line has been at Sephora for a long time, so I guess it does well. I'm not one to buy celebrity products. I think it's cheesy, like logos all over a bag. Not my thang.

The name does not offend me.

Kels - I hope your boyfriend has realized the shittiness of his words, or I hope he's no longer in your life. Not trying to make you feel bad, it's just, you don't deserve that!!!

Susan said...

Leotards. OMG. Ha. I hated those things for ballet class. Thank god my mom made me choose between piano and dance.

OKay said...

Not offended by it. BTW, when something is "retarded" it means it's delayed. Which is pretty accurate whether you're talking about people or fireproofing (flame-retardant) or whatever. The word itself is not offensive. We've just made it into an insult because of how we use it.

Discobitch said...

I love the new avon mega effects mascara. It never seems to clump and is easy to use. I used to have the clump problem but I used to use the tiny brush/comb combo stick n that helped but I haven't used it yet with the avon one

I am a fan of the Charlotte Ronson products on Sephora. Especially the lip gloss

Isnt' a celebutard the lowest rung on the ladder of celebrity...especially a dumbass....like Brandon Davis or Paris Hilton

I am a diehard fan of Loreal mascara. That is $7 of pure awesome. I real life, people always comment on my lashes, thinking they are ungodly long and thick and/or thick. I credit all of this to Loreal. Sometimes the drugstore bargains are where it's at!!

I also love Almay liquid liner and cherry Chapstick, natch!! And all things Neutrogena.

^In real life. Too much wine, eep!

Zeeky_Boogy_Doog said...

ELF eyeliner pen is fantastic! A little less fantastic than before... they changed the tip from one pointed end to a flat edge, and doubled the price. (Now it's $2, lol.)

Earlier tonight I saw the NYX line at Target. I'd forgotten my money at home, so couldn't buy any of it like I wanted. (Thank goodness, I'd be broke now!)

Hi. Never posted here but I'm a total Sephora whore and this drew me in. 1. There are so many cosmetics with potentially offensive names I think it's pretty ridiculous this one is the one to pull. 2. KVD cosmetics are pretty much amazing as much as I don't like her and 3. JSierra, as a fellow long, thin lash girl, TooFaced Better Than Sex is the bomb

Mari said...

Not a Kat fan, so it matters not to me, won't change my trash decision.
My comment is only: Le Volume de Chanel mascara is absolutely awesome. Two sweeps per eye and people think that I'm wearing false eyelashes.
