Some people pre-plan their funerals and burial location without having a terminal illness. This is a ridiculous, blind and reveal.
@sandyboo nailed this macabre blind! Way to go

Um that's what you're supposed to do. Make your wishes known and make as many arrangements as you can depending on how particular and wealthy you are. This is a kindness blind directed at her family.
kinda brave of her accepting what might be her fate...
Rhoda Forever.
She's 74 years old and has terminal brain cancer. Why is planning her funeral a BI?
I don't know what Enty means by "elaborate gravesite," but this sounds like a smart move on Ms. Harper's part. Even if she lives longer than she thought she would, she'll die eventually and when she does at least no one else will be put to the expense of burying her.
Exactly Seven and Kat. I've planned to be cremated and have my ashes spread somewhere. I want to get back in the food chain a quickly as possible. Of course my husband just wants to burn me in the back yard to save a few steps (&$).
Gonna need it sooner or later.
I have one my parents bought when I was very small, after my baby brother died. If I was famous, this could be a blind.
Smart move.
Grave sites aren't elaborate. They are plots of ground that have nothing there until death. She obviously spent some money on an elaborate headstone for that grave site. And if you think that it bad or scandalous Mr X go fuck yourself.
shes in remission but she will die eventually,, at least shes saving her loved ones from going through the picking out the coffin horror..
good of you valerie,, its hard to grieve and make rational decisions at the same time..sparing your kids that process is a kindness blind actually
I assume she's Jewish. Isn't there a tradition in their faith to bury the loved one within a set period? Sorry for my ignorance. Curse that Catholic education and its shortcomings of other faiths, traditions.
Uh, she's not gonna make it. None of us are. Pre-arranging is one of the most thoughtful gifts one can give your family. Guess what I do for a living?
She stated in an interview with Today that while it was in remission, with her kind of cancer the remission was temporary. Then it was reported that it was back. Good for her to do it herself and not make her loved ones have to deal with it. This shouldn't have been a blind.
@QueenAnne...Sorry, I'm a bit late here. But as a Jew I will give you a short-ish reply. Yes, usually in the most strict, observant Jewish households (such as Orthodox) bodies are traditionally buried within 24 hours of death. But like I said, this is for the hard core sect of Judaism. We are semi-observant and when my dad passed unexpectedly a few years ago, we had him cremated five days later after the funeral. Certain Jews frown upon this, but my mom, brothers, and I didn't give an eff because it's what he would have wanted. At lot of "rules" kick in when someone Jewish dies (like covering all mirrors in the house to discourage vanity during the mourning period), but it generally depends on how strictly each family follows religious practices in their daily lives. Honestly, it can get confusing even for me.
So? I have my family plot for eight that i purchased a few years ago. and I plan to hang around for another 25+ years......
I'm glad she's in remission. Hope she doesn't have to die withering away with cancer.
Me too Sherry. Grill me then throw my ashes (at meaningful landmarks) to the wind.
Harper isn't Jewish. You're confusing her with her character, Rhoda Morgenstern.
Clark St. is correct. IIRC from het book, her heritage is Catholic Italian/German, maybe? She's said that she considers herself an "honourary Jew" b/c of Rhoda and that little old Jewish bubbes have been coming up to her on the street for years, patting her face and hugging her, exclaiming, "But you HAVE to be Jewish, sweetie!" And she tells them, "You know, I kind of DO feel Jewish in my heart." Adorable.
How was this even a blind??? I watched a news show about her where she went to the hollywood forever cemetery to buy the gravesite. IN 2013. Good one, enty.
