Their marriage has always seemed suspiciously like an arranged affair to me. Cruz has always been all about having significant others who could give her a big shot of publicity (Cruise, McConaughey, etc.). When Bardem's star shot up, he must have seemed like an appropriate husband to her. Two stars married always get 10X the publicity one star married to a non-pro does.
His career hasn't gone as well the last couple of years. Maybe she'll start trying to score some other A lister soon.

Maybe Penelope Cruz will divorce Javier Bardem & marry Tom Cruise since he's single again. Then she will be Penelope Cruz-Cruise.
