She got off because Jose Baez created enough shadow of doubt that they couldn't convict her of first degree murder, which was how she was charged. If they tried for second degree, she may have been convicted.

She also got off because the FLA PD was incompetent and lazy. The location of Caylee's body was called in by August but the cops refused to search it because the area had rattlesnakes. In December the body was found exactly where the tipster reported, too late for any good forensic evidence. Naturally, Casey said the tipster was the killer. It was 1/2 mile from the Anthony home, probably the closest swampy, natural area. The tipster made an educated guess that the cops were too stupid to attend to.
I hadn't heard the part about the rattlesnakes, so I went to do some googling about it.
FFS, you live in Florida; there are rattlesnakes there! Further, they aren't nearly as dangerous as people seem to think they are; certainly not at dangerous as most people.
