Blind Item #12 - Reader Blind - Kindness
This deceased comedic actor was primarily famous for a comedy show that in its run introduced many great comedians and actors to the world. He is especially known for two characters he did on the show that both had cartoons versions later. He also appeared in movies and did a lot of voiceover work.
It doesn’t matter where this comic actor was during the holidays season. Around Christmas, he could be found dressed up as Santa or perhaps as an elf or in some other costume handing out presents at an orphanage or other home for unwanted children. He did this like clockwork until the last couple of years when he was too sick to do this any longer then he sometimes had family members go in his stead.

What were the two characters that became cartoons?
I've heard this same story about Alan Hale from Gilligan's Island, handing out toys to poor kids dressed as The Skipper. Don't think this is the same guy.

Clem Kaddiddlehopper had the same voice as Bullwinkle the Moose but I’m not sure what the other character was. Foghorn Leghorn sticks in my mind but I’m not sure that’s based on any Skelton character.

Tim Conway? Carol Burnett show. Lots of movies, voice over (Sponge Bob, Scooby Doo, etc). Had well known characters. His son has a radio show and he does help kids during Christmas.

I was one of those kids, when I was ages 4 thru 6. 50 yrs later, I still remember the event I was taken to, for kids who needed a gift. I remember sitting there, and Santa's helper calling my name, running up to get my little gift. You do not forget those moments. Ever.

I don't think Backus fits. He's primarily known for Gilligan's Island, which didn't introduce a lot of comedians or actors to the world.
Although, I don't have a better idea. :(
I met Red Skelton years ago when he was performing at a casino in Reno. He drew a clown for me. :)
