Beneath the radar, this foreign government is putting pressure on sponsors of certain athletic events to instead sponsor the foreign government's athletic events in return for a huge investment from the country's wealth fund. They are trying to collapse the entity they were going to merge with and they also know the government here is never going to approve the deal right now with the current political climate.
