Someone's Getting Fired

I don't know who had the bright idea to give Alicia Silverstone another lead in a situation comedy, but I think we know which new series will be headed for cancellation first. There were not that many new shows lined up because of the WGA strike and so it was going to be tough to pick a loser out of the bunch. No longer. Alicia Silverstone who is to television shows what Jennifer Aniston is to movies has been signed to be the star of "Bad Mother's Handbook." Oh yes, Alicia plays a mother to a 16 year old, and acts as a mother to her own mother. I think the premise actually sounds decent, if tired and overdone, but casting Alicia is just like ensuring that after six episodes the rest will be on DVD or the Family Channel.

Now the casting people did get a great daughter at least. They got the girl from Arrested Development. You know. Maeby. Yes, Alia Shawkat is cast as Silverstone's daughter. How about the writers kill off Alicia's character in the first episode and then it can just be Alia and her grandmother. Now that would be a great show and would spare us all the effect of having Alicia to look at each week. They could keep her photo on Alia's night stand and that way she can still be remembered on the show.

Alia Shawkat is great. RIP Surely, died at such a young age from that horrible disease, B.S.

I wonder who signed on to this project first.

I've always thought that Alicia Silvertone has a really weird mouth. When she talks it's like she has no control of her lips.

Alia Shawkat is awesome!
I could see her and Alicia having decent chemistry. Don't act like Clueless wasn't funny back in the 90's!
If anything, this news makes more even more anxious for news about an Arrested Development movie.
But make no mistake, Alicia is no Lauren Graham and I really hope this isn't another "Return of Jezebel James!"

I miss Arrested Development.

Miss-Match wasn't too bad. Alicia has some comic timing, and I think Alia would be an excellent foil- sarcasm and sweetness. Who knows? Maeby it will work (sorry, couldn't help it)!!

I am probably in the minority but I really liked her show Miss Match that was on a few years ago. I don't think it had much of a chance w/ the Friday night timeslot, so I don't think it's her fault it got cancelled.

you know, i have a theory. anyone who gives a shit about animal rights, can't be all that bad. especially as bad as you like to make them out to be.

Isn't Alicia only like 29 or 30? She's supposed to play the mother of a 16 year old? How are they gonna explain that? Did the character get pregnant at the age of 12 or something?? Otherwise, the makeup dept will be working overtime to try to age her, and that'll be a first in Hollywood, trying to age someone, instead of making actresses younger.
