"Oprah Got Me Started On Cocaine"

You know just when I thought this day was going to be so slow that I was actually going to have to talk about Amanda Bynes and whether she did or did not break up with that dude from The Hills who she was going out with for about two seconds, along comes this lovely story to make me happy I am writing today.

It is exactly what I expect from a tell-all book. It features a guy who really has nothing going for him except for the fact he used to date Oprah and a publisher who said, "what the hell, it will probably sell a few copies."

The man's name is Randolph Cook. Now Randolph has been in and out of Oprah's life since they dated back in 1985. He then sued her in 1997 when he tried to write this book that is now published, because publishing companies he alleged were scared of Oprah. They are probably still scared of Oprah, because, well she is Oprah, but he got it published this time. Now, for the most part his book is really boring, but people will go out and buy it based on this excerpt alone.

“Oprah made a “rock” of cocaine and baking soda in the tube and heated it, a method known as freebasing.

“[Oprah] then put the lit torch on the rock, inhaled and held the smoke in her lungs for a long time. When she finally exhaled, she began to shake violently as she put the pipe down, she had trouble catching her breath and her eyes got big as saucers.”

We smoked at least a couple of times a week. Sometimes we would smoke up until her limo was waiting to take her to the studio to perform her show…”

Now, Oprah in the past admitted to taking coke, but she said it was when she was a news anchor and not when she was hosting her own show. She said at that time that she was hooked on the drug by a guy she was dating and the only reason she did it was because she was hooked on the guy.

Well according to Randolph, he is not the guy Oprah was referring to, and he had never used coke until he met Oprah, and that she was the one who got him started on coke.

The one thing I tried not to read were his accounts of the sex he and Oprah had. Yeah, I didn't really need to read that. If you want to read more of the book or the website of the guy, click here.

Hm. What I want to know is, how is he able to remember so clearly what Oprah did, if he was in fact a first time crack rock user? He is very detailed in the motions she goes through to cook up the rock. Is it possible that he could look back all those years and remember so clearly what she was doing? Maybe if he knows how to do it now, but still. Time has passed. I dunno. From the way he tells the story I wouldn't be surprised if he'd been the one cooking it up. I read the excerpts from the site and thought hmm "The lad doth protest too much".

Don't think Opa is that innocent. You really think she hasn't done anything bad??

How on earth is she going to spin this one? Well, she is as powerful as God, she should have smote him before he opened his big trap.

Well if this guy (what a winner, by the way) came after the guy she was "hooked on" that got her "hooked on" coke, she might still have been into it when she met this guy. And wanted to do it with him.
I have a hard time seeing her as the freebasing kind of gal though. I would've thought she was more of a "pinky fingernail bumper".
I'm glad she has actually admitted to using in the past, though. I didn't know that.

I wonder if she will make his book one of Oprah's picks.

I just read the excerpts from his book...it amazes me that an addict can be so detailed about so many things that happened over 20 years ago. I agree with you Bad Fish...just doesn't seem to make him very believable

I don't know much about coke but doesn't it make you skinny?

Um...I don't know of that many fat coke addicts.

And I have known my fair share.

Wow, it's so cold out I just became sterile!

The Mighty O has also admitted to doing crack. She was doing a show with crack addicts and after one woman recounted her horrific tale of addiction and attempts to get clean, Oprah said (right before a commercial break) something along the lines of understanding this woman's pain because she too had messed around with it. It was just one sentence and when the media jumped all over it, Oprah and her reps refused to give a comment about it.

Lots of people have good memories and can recount details from a couple of decades ago - even if they were high at the time. Me included. Maybe this guy can too.

i don't deny that it might have happened but after reading his 'story' i just found him to be a whiny bitch with sour grapes.
doesn't matter who got who hooked, you get off it alone dumbass. you're just pissed becasue she got off it and made something of herself.

stop the blame game for cash, we ain't biting.

I hate people who try to cash in on other people's fame. As Peter Griffin would say, "B-O-R-I-N-G."

Lucy and Ror - ever heard of "coke bloat"?

he says...

"I get involved with a recovery program. One of the steps requires me to make amends". I have 9 years sobriety and I am a 12 step program follower and when you practice this step you are not to have any expectations whatsoever about the other person, it is about making amends to them, you try and if they are interested good for you, now you move on to the next person, place or thing, if they are not interested, you still move on, you tried, it's about making amends, you don't try and destroy someone's life. I don't understand how he can use any 12 step program to justify this book.

From Enty:

When or where did Oprah admit this little tidbit of her life?

And to the person who says she isn't innocent I so agree. I don't know if she did coke with this guy but even if she did he is the only person responsible for his drug habit.

If Oprah had a drug habit and took care of it without him than he can figure out how to take care of his demons without evolving her.

He sounds like just any other loser looking to make a quick buck off of famous people, but if the tables were turned I wonder if Oprah would do the same?

nomd, as my poor memory recalls, oprah admitted during one of her shows that she had, for a period of time, tried cocaine. i don't remember if she said it was crack cocaine or cocaine or both. i do recall her saying she wasn't hooked on the drug, but on the man. so i think enty got that part wrong.

In 1985, Oprah was a big deal in Chicago. I'm sure he remembered exactly what was going on.

And while Oprah has money, she doesn't carry the clout she once had. That is why the book was published.
