It's Been 48 Hours And Barbra Streisand Still Has Not Commented
Barbra Streisand is smart. I have been waiting for 48 hours since her assistant got arrested for possessing coke and meth and a dangerous weapon for Barbra to release a statement. She hasn't and so now I'm forced to speculate and to contemplate whether this is the time I should use Josh Brolin's phone number. I have been hanging onto it in case there is a Goonies 2. I want to be in it, what can I say. Anyway. This arrest is a big deal but everyone is afraid of making Barbra mad so they don't ask any questions. They just report the facts. That isn't gossip. Gossip is about speculating.
In case you didn't read about it or hear about it, Barbra sent her assistant to the post office to go mail something. This was on Saturday in Malibu. Well, the assistant was pulled over for having expired tags. That isn't a big deal. The ticket is like $10. But, of course, they asked her for her drivers license and it turns out her license was suspended. Hmmm. Now what to do. Well at some point during all of this, the officers discovered the coke and the meth and the weapon which was a sap. I know, you all thought a sap came out of a tree or how Paul McCartney felt when he realized what Heather Mills was really like.
Now, the first thing is that all the reports named the woman as Barbra's assistant when she got arrested. An hour later and she was a receptionist. Interesting, non? No one has said how long this woman has worked for Barbra. She is in her 50's. The woman was on probation and had her license suspended. If I am as paranoid as Barbra, I know she must have done a background check on this woman. Would you have hired her discovering all of this? No, of course not. So, I'm guessing she was hired prior to the probation and suspension of the license. If so, then wouldn't it be fair to say that Barbra knew that her license had been suspended and still sent her out running errands in her car? What if the woman had killed someone driving? There haven't been any reports she was under the influence. That is the thing. There have been no reports about this at all. The woman was bailed out of jail and then it is like one big shhhhhhh. Where is the digging? No one is doing any. Everyone is scared of Barbra. Why? Well she has money and isn't afraid to sue for one.

Honey from what I know of Streisand, her employees are looooong term employees, she is that paranoid about her privacy. So yes this woman must have been an employee from years back.
Barbra's distracted planning her Back Outta Retirement Tour XXXIV and figuring out how much she can extort from her fans if she tells them she "really, really, God's truth, means it this time. Pinky swear."
If Barbra hired this woman prior to the license suspension, how would she know if her assistant had a suspended license? I'm sure the assistant didn't tell her because she would want to keep her job and one of her duties would be running errands for Barbra.
Just giving Barbra a little benefit of the doubt.
I was wondering the same thing- about it getting hushed hushed out to the media spotlight.

I'm with Paisley - how would Barbra know? Why would she know? And if MontanaMarriott is correct and the woman was a long-term employee who, prsumably, never gave her any problems, would she ever suspect her of something like this?
As for it not being in the news, isn't that sort of the thing done by people who want to be in the news? Like Rob Lowes nanny?
My dad knew some kids in a band who worked with Barbra 20-some years ago, and they said she did massive amounts of coke every time they were with her.

I hadn't heard about this story at all though.
I can't imagine Barbra hoovering coke and meth for 20+ years without having some sort of breakdown.

I think old Babs should hook up with Mel Gibson, then they could reign over Malibu together.
You can get suspended for not paying parking tickets or child support or restitution, those things don't normally come to any employer's attention.
As for probation? If it was probation for something like contempt, failure to pay child support, or disorderly conduct it's not as likely to be learned about as a DUII or a felony.
I live in a small town though. The local paper prints the names and addresses of everyone that got arrested the day before in the daily paper. Everyone finds out when you get in trouble here.
I kinda have to go with everyone who is saying Barbra wouldn't have known.
Somehow, I don't think this would be ok with her.

I doubt coke would make THAT any better! These stars who get stuck in their trailers or dressing rooms all day getting all jacked up...sheesh.
Regardless, I would LOVE a Goonies 2 no matter which part Enty has in it...or even no part at all.
I have to say - I love Babs. I do.
However, everything we hear about her is how self-centered she is. I am sure she has people who handle the HR for her other people. She may not have any idea what kind of trouble they are getting themselves into. Also - can you really see her talking to her assistants - receptionists - whatever - in person?? I bet she emails or texts everyone. She is not known to be a real face-to-face person.

as far as the story goes, i don't see her assistant's issues being bab's problem, but i don't really get how she'd put up w/ an assistant being on meth (almost impossible to hide that for long!) and she's so paranoid and uppity i'm surprized she doesn't do random background checks on her staff even after hiring them.
