John Goodman Talks About His Weight Loss

John Goodman was on Letterman last night and talked about his weight loss, but not really how he did it. To me that means he probably has some kind of deal in the works. Either that or he had some kind of surgery and doesn't want people to know. Either way, the guy does look great and gives others at the 400 pound range hope that the weight can be taken off and stay off.

if anybody watches Treme, last season he was HUGE. no way someone can lose that quick without gastric of other surgery or being on biggest loser 24/7.

glad he did it,i was worried he would be our next John Candy.

I don't see what the big deal is if they did surgery, why hide it. Just like Starr she made believe it was thru exercise and eating the right food which was all BS. It made her look stupid when the truth came out.

I don't see the shame in revealing gastric bypass either. Its much better than by losing weight the alternative ways (ie drugs/eating disorders).

That being said he looks GREAT. I just watched the last episode of TREME last night ON DEMAND and he was huge.

Who really cares how he got the weight off to begin with. The real challenge is maintaining. More power to him and good luck!

I hope he lost the weight under doctor's supervision, he is a great talent and I wouldn't want to hear of him passing from a massive heart attack.

I can't wait to see Treme, must add it to my netflix queue.

I saw this last night and couldn't understand why he danced around the question of HOW he lost the weight. I'm happy for him but think it may be gastric bypass.

I still don't know why so many people who go that route are so secretive or too embarrassed to admit they had the surgery.

It must be a surgery (fast weight lost) but he looks great and I bet he feels healthy.

I always thought he was sexy as hell.

A family member watches Treme (I need to check it out) and loves it.

I hope he keeps it off, however he got it off.

even if he had surgery (which i'm sure he did), that's no guarantee he'll keep it off. we've seen many instances where that's simply not the case.

he was on the road to the cemetery, so i'm glad he's trimmed down. but like others, i don't get why he doesn't just fess up to having had surgery. it shouldn't be a source of shame but obviously, a lot of people out there think it is.

It might even be helpful if some highly visible people confessed to having weight reduction surgery, help make it less of a shameful thing to us "regular people" out here. Ha! Commented on two posts at once!

I think the stigma people have about admitting to having a gastric bypass is that they "cheated." They did not do it the "natural" way, working out, dieting, etc.

He did say previously it was "diet and exercise." Speaking as someone who is on that route and has seen many people who have gone the quick-fix surgical route, he doesn't have the death pallor that those folks I know had. haven't you guys noticed that people who get the gastric bypass crap don't look healthy? It's because their body is eating its own muscles.

Apparently he said a major part of his gain came from drinking beer, which he no longer does.

I know a couple of people who've lost quite a bit of weight after getting the lapband rather than gastric bypass, and if one's going the surgical route, that strikes me as the way to go. One has had a few ups & downs (they filled the band a bit too full recently, which made it very difficult for her to eat ANYTHING for a while there), but they've both kept most of the weight off, and on the whole are basically quite healthy.

Well I have lost 65 lbs now (and counting) and my friend has lost 130 lbs now (and counting) and we just did it the old fashion way of keeping a calorie journal and exercising.
I think on the whole gastric bypass surgeries are like a form of medical anorexia or bulimia (because i knnow many ppl who have to throw up if they eat ANYTHING more than a few mouthfuls of food) and if he did go this route I am happy he is thinner but feel like sometimes ppl are using lap bands and gastric bypasses as an 'easy' way to lose the weight.
I understand that for many many ppl that this is their last resort but for a large percent I just get angry they do this to themselves when they could do what my friend and I have done.

p.s. Hope this doesnt offend anyone who has had the surgeries, I had an aunt who was the same size as me when I first started losing the weight and she had gastric bypass because she was eating 1200 cals a day and STILL weight would not come off of her. So no disrespect to anyone~

just remember that a doctor won't do a surgery on someone who is "a little" overweight. For some people it is not an easy decision to make at all. And it is not easy to maintain either. It is not the "easy" way out. I wish people not think that. Patients act like they're even embarrassed to staff, it's like, wtf, I am not judging you.

Well, watching my aunt (who I've said weighed the same amount I did and is only a few yrs older than me, long story lol) watching her lose the weight while I lost mine I noticed that while her surgery WAS hard to recover from, and while she had to learn what she could and couldnt eat or suffer the consequences of vomiting as you stomach is often fussy after the surgery. While this happened to her it was a brief thing and basically her stomach just will not let her eat more than a child's size amount of food, thus enabling her to lose weight. She has been able to eat more gradually over time but still struggles to eat more than half a sandwich and some fruit all at once.

Whereas I see what I have gone through personally and it just seems like to me my struggle has been longer, more intense, harder, as I am the one controlling how much I can eat, with no help from surgery cutting my stomach size.

To me,long story long lol, to truelly diet and exercise and have the fucking willpower to continue everyday when your a 'food person' like me is a hellava lot harder than having gastric bypass surgery.

and btw they let people get the surgery now that are still in the 200's so its not just the extreme overweight people getting this done.

This man is SO hot! ;D

The reason he lost so much weight was because he had to stop drinking alcohol before he got himself in deep shit. Too late it seems. Some old sex video of his has been found. Seems he was sleeping with someone other than his wife back in 1997.
