Your Turn

Sophie's Choice today. You can save only your son or your daughter. Who do you save?

Son, because teenage girls are the devil.

But realistically, I don't even know. I would rather die myself than see one of my kids die.

Tough question. Glad I don't have children!

Nosey Parker said...

I save the one I love the most...my Dog!

My worst nightmare. Daughter - because son has always been the star at everything and she holds a special place in my heart.

Privacy said...

Easy. Don't have a daughter so the son would get saved. ;)

JessieE said...

that actually makes me nauseated to even think about.

Lisa said...

I have 2 sons and I can't imagine having to chose one over the other...

msgirl said...

What the hell kind of question is this? Why make us even think about it?

Susan said...

Christ on a cracker. This question sucks.

McSpanky said...

This is a case for McSpanky! No, despite being the resident "Bad Mom," I would not be able to make that choice. I saw what it did to Meryl Streep. I would just break down right there and maybe grab both kids and run, so they'd just shoot us all. I'd rather we all die together than any of my kids watch me abandon them.

Yucky question, enty!

urban chaos said...

I have three children and the first thought that immediately came to mind is whomever posed this question cannot possibly be a parent.

Anonymous said...

No. I'm not even going to think about this.

EmEyeKay said...

It's an easy one for me, but the more I think about it the more sad I get. Would have to hate to choose.

It's a sad, awful question.

hunter said...

"This is a case for McSpanky!"

LOL!!! Welcome back, sorry we gave you a hard time the other day.

califblondy said...

I bawled my eyes out watching that movie.

I don't know how anyone could make that decision.

chellesy said...

Seaward... You are very right, teenage girls are in fact the devil. LOL

I couldn't choose. Either I would save the one I knew I could reach the quickest or (more than likely) we would all go.

SueRH said...

Daughter, because daughters take care of their parents when they get older, sons do not. But in all fairness, I don't have kids, so it was an emotionless choice for me. :)

WTF?

My dog

joymama said...

Horrible question to ask but many folks have had to make this decission.

Glad I only have one child.

MaryMQC said...

I have three, one girl and two boys. It would not be possible. I know myself, and if there were no option to save all then I would die trying....... Shit, Enty. You turned my smile upside down.

MadLyb said...

I'd save both and take one of their places.

MaryMQC said...

Also, I have always been afraid of favoritism - that it would be a trap I would fall into. But no, I can't even fathom the concept of having more love or affection for any one more than the other two. I approach each child differently in regards to affection/patience, as it's kind of required, them being separate human beings and all. But if faced with having to choose which is my favorite, I would be lying if I said any of their names. My love is unending for each.

nolachickee said...

That question is just a buzz kill, Enty.

No, I'm not really drinking at work right now. A luncheon cocktail would be nice on occasion, however.

MISCH said...

I don't have children and can't imagine having to choose.

Mhdz said...

So glad I'm not planning on having kids.

RenoBlondee said...

Agree with you all that teenage girls would frighten the devil they're so awful.
But, even knowing and living this I just can't make that decisison. I have a lovely, sweet, wonderful boy and a hideous, mean, selfish, snotty girl. I still love them both the same.

Worstcompanytoworkfor said...

Disgusting choice but i'm going to play. I have 3 kids.

1. daughter-because she has a daughter to raise.

2. daughter -because she has a daughter to raise.

3. son- because he is morally the best person I have ever met and I am lucky to have him in my life.

I pick-My son he and I can raise their daughters and they would probably turn out better. hehe this is so bad and sad lol.

Sadie said...

I totally agree nolachickee - I have a son and a daughter and there is no way on earth I could or would choose between one of the other. BUZZKILL!

Pogue Mahone said...

I could never choose. They would have to kill me.I couldn't live with myself deciding which one lives or dies.

Maja With a J said...

I don't have kids, and that's my choice *L*.

deree said...

I have 3 daughters and would die before I let anyone take their lives. What a horrible, horrible thing to think about!!

pilly said...

Mmmmmm the chicken or the egg????

lac said...

"fuck you" was the first thing that came to mind. To be a bit more articulate: dude, I come to this site for fluffy celebrity gossip not gut wrenching moral conundrums.

Mojees said...

So, to everyone who said teenage daughters are the devil...
I just had a baby girl 5 months ago. I guess I have a lot to look forward too!

DontRainOnMyPrada said...

Really? Youve really run out of all other ideas for "your turn?" ugh.

Del Riser said...

I would likely die trying to save both.
Enty, how about the *best pick-up line you've ever heard,* I have one of those.

McSpanky said...

Aw thank you, hunter. Hey, I knew I was gonna get flack for my rant, no worries. I was able to direct all my anger on here and was a sweet mom when the kids got home (and yes, my chore strike ended in less than 24 hours, as someone predicted.)

Wait, wait, I know the right answer! We would all eat the nightshade berries!

Kim said...

Wow. Um.

CRAP.

There's no way I could choose.

My son, though...would sacrifice himself for his sister any day of the week.

Lori said...

sweet jeebus...lighten up, people!

I would save the one with the best chance of survival. If you take it down to the facts, there is less of a chance for residual guilt.

Sarah J. MacManus said...

I have two sons, so I get to save both.

figgy said...

@McSpanky, you're cracking me up again ;-)

I don't have children but have never even been able to bring myself to watch Sophie's Choice because the very notion is so nauseatingly horrific.

Usually I'm in the "lighten up, people!" camp here, but gotta say, this question does not fit my idea of gossipy, goofy, catty fun, which is why I come here.

Angela said...

my daughter because she has 3 sons and loving husband

Jennifer H. said...

Dude, it's okay not to have a "Your Turn" if you're this hard up for a question.

ChasingHeaven said...

Bacon. For the love of God somebody save the bacon!

DontRainOnMyPrada said...

Haha @Jennifer. Or he could ask us to give him some ideas for Your Turn ("your turn to come up w some 'your turns' ") ;)

RocketQueen said...

I'm trying to remember what show or movie I saw recently when a woman was watching a particularly difficult young lady and said "This is why baby girls should be drowned at birth." Funny, in a horrifying sort of way.

jax said...

How uplifting, Enty.

hotchacha said...

This question is so not cool.

Bleu said...

Sophie's Choice was about a survivor of Auschwitz who was given the opportunity of possibly saving one of her children instead of having both condemned to die immediately in the concentration camp. One would go to the gas chamber and the other would go to labor camp. That is where this question comes from.

Unknown said...

I've never seen the movie nor read the book. I learned of Sohpie's Choice when I told someone about my family history.

Yes, my grandmother along with my father and one of my uncles were in a Nazi concentration camp. The Germans decided to move the prisoners. Everyone lined up to leave. My uncle, a 13 year old, was ahead in line, hanging with his friends. My grandmother was further back with my dad who was all of 15. At some point the Nazis changed their minds and sent the remainder of the people back to their barracks. My grandmother had to decide whether to stay with my dad or go with my uncle. She decided that my uncle needed her more and so she left my dad behind.

Not long thereafter my grandmother and uncle were separated. Neither survived the Holocaust. Obviously, my father did. My dad harbors ZERO ill will towards his mom. He only speaks of her with great reverence. (

I have no children but I think this question sucks and wouldn't even want to think about it. Sometimes Enty, sometimes...

misspoppypants said...

WTF? Assuming you live with the one you save? You'd have to be one sick mf to not die for your children, in their places.

I have no children myself, but I can't imagine choosing between my friend's children, especially when they've hugged you and told you they love you. Horrible decision.

MnGddess said...

Enty dear - it's a bit obvious you are not a parent, because any good parent would do their best to save both and sacrifice themselves in the process.

Lelaina Pierce said...

I don't know whether to laugh or cry that some people actually chose?! ;)

Henriette said...

I have two sons, so just kill me.

Sophie's choice was not who would die, but, to go with her daughter to the gas.

WTF To the people who actually answered this question, I don't have kids myself but based on the close relationship i have with my sister's kid's, if i did have kids i wouldn't choose, i'd rather die.
