Two Teens Charged With Autumn Pasquale's Murder - Caught By Facebook Post

Teen brothers Justin and Dante Robinson were turned in by their mother to the police after she read what one of the brothers had posted on the Facebook page of Autumn's brother. It simply said Autumn. It is believed the boys lured the 12 year old to them by promising to help her fix her bike. She was then beaten and strangled and dumped into a recycling container. The boys are 15 and 17 and I wonder how many parents would turn in their kids. After the mom turned them in, police found many of Autumn's possessions in the boys' house. They have been charged with murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

In cases of murder, most children their age are charged and tried as adults. I will not be surprised at all if life is not part of the sentence recommendation. I am not sure if its a death penalty state though. But I know if they were here in Texas, the death penalty would also be a possibility.; 7:39 AM

Not to sound naive but homocides in our area (besides Camden of course) are honestly unheared of. Especially the death of a child. One of the boys actually went to the candlelight vigil they had for her the night they night tgey found her body. He hugged her friends. This disturbs me more than some transient coming into town and murdering a child. These are two boys. With a mother who has to live the rest of her life wondering what she did wrong to make her sons murder an innocent girl. cindy said...: Based on some of the stories I've read about the case, I'm going to assume that they hadnt meant to kill her - maybe she fought back when they went to steal her bike and the boys hit her harder than they'd meant to? Given the fact that they knew each other socially, and Autumn felt comfortable enough going to their house in the first place, I just...I suspect it was all a horrible accident and an attempted theft gone the wrong way.

Everyone looses here. Two families have lost children today. The beautiful girl who's life was ended too soon. And the two brothers who were compelled to do this horrible thing. Will we really ever know why?

I praise the mother who turned her sons in. That could not have been easy. And since I don't have all the facts I won't condemn her for bad parenting etc. She did turn them in.

I am truly heartbroken over this. Autumn we love you and hope you find peace with the angels. And I pray that her family will find the strength to heal from this tragedy.; 7:59 AM

Anyway, You are right. However, I am not sure you fully understand how long it takes before the death penalty is enacted. While the death penalty can be sentenced, it can literally take decades before its acted out. There is still the process of appeals the defendant can apply for, new evidence can come to light, his/her attorney can fight the sentence and try to get life instead. It is a long and lengthy process for a reason.
People ARE for rehabilitation. They really are. But there are studies that suggest that despite the desire for it, it doesn't always happen. ESPECIALLY in prison. They are more likely to become repeat offenders if they were ever released. That is the sad reality.; 8:48 AM

They don't deserve to be "rehabilitated" as you say, for a very, very long time. Why do they get a second chance at life because some doctor says "Ohh their brains aren't fully developed, they didn't know what they were doing, lets give them some therapy sessions and they will be totally new kids! They didn't know what they were doing, kids will be kids!" BULLSHIT. Bullshit, bullshit, bullshit.

Strangulation is a very personal death, you are placing your hands on that person and basically drawing the life out of them, feeling every second of their life that you are taking. You don't accidentally strangle someone, your hands don't happen upon someones throat and squeeze of their own accord.
These boys don't deserve our excuses, they don't deserve our understanding, and they sure as hell don't deserve one ounce of sympathy from any person. Death penalty is only asked or granted when the crime is so grievous or heinous, and there is no hope for rehabilitation. All criteria has to be met for the death penalty to be asked and granted.

I want more information about what happened. I am horrified and they should stay in prison. But more importantly - how did these boys end up like this? What happens to a young person to make killing, no strangling, a beautiful young girl an OK thing to do and then go to her vigil and hug her friends? That's a messed up kid. Locking these two boys up doesn't solve the larger problem of the WHY! No one wants to fix the societal issues that set up a situation for this to occur. cindy said...: I know I may get flamed for this and I know its a completely separate issue but -- I was in Rwanda about 5 years after the genocide. What struck me the most wasn't how violent the people seemed or how chaotic it was -- in fact, I found it to be exactly the opposite of my expectations. I was shocked by how calm, quiet, clean, and serene I found Kigali and its people - just like my quiet suburban town back home in Canada.

Truly, there are people that are chemically unbalanced - true 'psychopaths'. This may the be the case of these two boys. At the same time, all humans are animals, and can be driven to the most unspeakable violence by a whole range of factors -- whether biological, societal, or just the context that we found ourselves in. That's why I'm against the death penalty (even though I do think these kids should be put in jail for a long time). And that's why I think this is a tragedy on many levels.; 9:43 AM

Brava to the mother who turned them in. Would my mother have turned me in? Absolutely! She did! There was a hit and run near our house (I was in college then) - a witness took down the wrong tag number and the cops came looking for me. She immediately told them where to find me. And then she called and yelled at me until they showed up. Luckily it was a different color car and I had a rock solid alibi - I was read my rights but was not arrested. I'm glad that everyone is able to air their opinions on this site. Too bad some got a little riled up and mean-spirited towards me, but there are all kinds in this world and those kinds seem to be represented on this board. I can honestly say that in the past I have had second thoughts about opinions I've had based on my reading others on this board. That's a good thing! I'm hoping that this was somehow an accidental homicide just because two young men could not be this evil..
However, depending on if they planned out to kill her or not, if they did, they deserve life, both of them! If it wasn't planned and was sort of an accident, then I think they deserve 30 years.
You have to remember that they're 15 and 17, they weren't clearly thinking, but who does at 15 and 17?

It's obvious that they don't possess compassion. I don't know if they can be rehabilitated if they could strangle a friend over bike parts.

There will be no rehabilitation here. Likely these two will lack empathy, have low impulse control and violent tendencies to the end of their days. Let me tell you guys a story of a court case I was unlucky to be a juror on. a 32 yr old man had sexually assaulted a 5 yr old girl. We had found him guilty, and the possible sentence we could give him was 25 to life.
I was ready to give this man life, because his stand was, I didn't do anything (despite there being outstanding evidence proving he did), she must have CRAWLED ON TOP OF ME WHILE I WAS SLEEPING AND DID IT HERSELF. This, was a sick man.
However, most of the jurors disagreed with me, and said he could be "rehabilitated". In the end, we gave him 46 years with a chance of parole in 23. I was furious, because the stance was, he has children too, we need to think about HIS children.
Turns out, after the trial we found out, that the man was supposed to have been tried over a year ago, but had posted bail and RAN. they didn't find him til two weeks before the trial began and held him without bail. I looked everyone dead in the eye after that, and NO ONE could look back at me. Finally, they all said how sorry they were they didn't give him life, because there was just no way this man felt any remorse for what he did. Why else would he run?
THIS is the reason why I don't believe in rehabilitation.; 12:50 PM

feraltart said...: The reason I don't agree with the death penalty is two fold:
1) There have been so many cases where a person has been found innocent after spending years in jail. You can't resurrect the dead if you make a mistake.
2) The families of those who are guilty are also victims. By killing their loved ones you punish them.
Having written that, I truly believe in LIFE sentences. I am afraid we have dropped the ball on preventing the degeneration of society by allowing children to stay in home environments that are detrimental to their health. Having children is a privilege, not a right, and until we start acknowledging that we will continue to have children killing children and psychopaths roaming the streets.

I don't know enough about the boys or their history to judge "why" or what should happen to them but this all makes me so sad.

deree said...: Rehabilitation works for minor crimes. Murderers,rapists,chomos. I am highly doubtful. I believe most of the desire to do those things is a chemical imbalance in the brain that can't be fixed or perhaps a malformation in the areas of the brain that grasps right from wrong. If you look at the skulls of many serial killers they seem almost mishapen. If we are indeed related to neanderthals perhaps in some people those genetics disturbed the brains hard wiring and made them more primitive in decision making? Where is their impulse control? I find these fascinating and plausible theories.

If you get exposed to enough prenatally, it does a number on your frontal cortex and your judgment and impulse control are pretty crappy. I agree. I don't believe in the death penalty, personally, for a few reasons. Plus, they are teenagers. They CAN be rehabilitated. If they get to prison and then get out and have a high recidivism rate then no, they probably can't be rehabbed.

Eeekalicious said...: @Audrey I agree with you too. Canada got rid of the death penalty decades ago. The death penalty really is not a deterrent. More often than not, the prisoners on death row *ask* for death, because they have lost their freedom. For child killers in particular, prison is a living hell, because many inmates themselves were abused as children.

These two boys look like men. I think this is part of the problem. The girl is angelic, and is the victim of a heinous crime. In a small community like this, if the mother was known to be a good mother, it will be much easier for her family. If she wasn't, there will be hell to pay and she will likely have to move. I wouldn't be surprised if drugs or alcohol were elements in this crime as it seems to have come out of nowhere.

There needs to be special facilities for the evaluation of child and teen criminals accused of serious crimes. This also helps the family of the victim, because they deserve to know what really happened, and it takes time to get to the truth.; 1:48 PM
