No Doubt Cancels Entire Tour

All of you looking forward to seeing No Doubt this summer will have to wait. Possibly forever. The band announced yesterday that instead of going on tour, they are going to be recording a new album. Ostensibly the reason for the band releasing a record and not supporting it with a tour they promised is because Gwen says she has a bunch of new stuff written and wants to record it all. I think the reason is because Gwen knows her marriage is not going to be able to survive her being gone so long right now and if you are recording locally you are home everyday. It makes no sense to skip a long planned tour just to record another album which you can do on the road or when you get back, especially if it is already written.

I saw them a few years ago- fantastic show. Great band for summer tours. Sad I won't see them this summer.

That's terrible! Isn't touring the way the band makes most of their money?
Poor Gwen, if true. I hope they're in counseling if it's this drastic.

I always wanted to see them on tour. I love No Doubt. I'm not crazy about their new album, but maybe it will grow on me.

I DID love the video for Looking Hot... But the rest of the record? Meh.

If that's true, she is doing what she has to do. Staying home and working on a marriage is a much more valuable thing to do then taking off for a tour when your marriage is in shambles. I hope they can work it out.

Why can't she drag him along with her on tour?

I saw them in 2002 and loved them. I was in general admission and got about 5 feet from Gwen, she's stunningly beautiful.

no doubt really does need to record new music, cause their latest album was not good. if canceling their tour is the only way she feels she can save her marriage, then i give her props. family should always come first.

The band is more than Gwen. While I understand her personal trouble, this really affects her band mates who have not made additional $$$ with a successful solo career, fashiion designs and fragrance. Yes, bands make their money from tours and not records. Most acts get very little from recordings. And considering they were 1, gone so long and 2, the record was not a big hit you would think they would want to get back out in front of the fans to drum up more interest in their next record and their act in general.

She has to do what she thinks is right. Also, mb ticket sales werent so great? Idk, just dpitballing.

Henriette said...

Yeah, I think their ticket sales were down too. Kelly Clarkson canceled her tour when My December flopped too.

@ Henriette...which BV was it? I can't remember.

@LottaColada I politely disagree. if your marriage is already in a state that you cant leave your spouse alone for 2 months (with possible visits during the weekends) its dunzo.
This tour cancelling will affect the jobs of many people, it is a huge loss of money.

If the theory's true, I think it's sweet that Gwen still cares that much. Gavin's the one with more to lose in terms of financial stability and popularity.

No Doubt ROCK in concert- took my then 8 yr old to see them and it was the best intro to a live show, way better that the WIGGLES!

If Gwen is doing this for her marriage- GOOD FOR HER. If the band, as a team decided to stay home and write better music- GOOD FOR THEM. They just played in LA- weren't they just doing live shows? Did I miss something about a few shows here and there?

Why not make a better record if the last one was shitty? GOOD FOR THEM.

If she is pregnant- GOOD FOR HER FAMILY!!!!

^^THIS^^
She needs to quit being selfish. My mom worked at Billboard, and she said musicians get like a few cents for each album they sell. Thats album, full length LP. If her marriage is in trouble, she needs to deal with that herself instead of calling off the tour. Or, as someone as said, drag her boytoy and kids along.

OH Gawd Gwen, let him go. Whether it's boys or girls, nothing is worth this. Let. It. Go Girl!

Lots of lost jobs, I'm sad for the band & crew. Also - yeah - if your marriage can't survive a tour it's probably already over.

Touring is brutal. If she has new music to record she should go for it. I doubt the band is crying over this.

You don't cancel an entire tour for nothing. I'm sure every member of that band stood to make a nice chunk of change, probably 4 to 5 million each for a large tour and even a couple million each for a summer tour. And you can bet the rest of the band is nearly as well off as her. This must be crushing for them. No this can only be one of two things- either tickets sales were appalling or Gwen and Gavin really are in trouble. Maybe they were the "answer" to that blind we tried to pin on Cindy and Rande.

The latest album bombed and ticket sales were not good, so I am not surprised they cancelled. I think they are hoping the next album will be better, cos after 10 years of waiting, the fans were let down with the latest offering.

uh honey, not touring ain't gonna solve the problem. If the marriage is fake-o staying put to make sure he doesn't get up to any shenanigans isn't making it better. Just get it over with and move on. You love and respect and trust... or you don't.

Wait she is trying to hold onto a husband who also likes boys and was in a relationship with another man for several years?

Come on. This mess has been on the rocks for several years. Yes, she has two sons with the dude. But, get back to work. If the marital problems are in the blogs, it has existing long before the tongue wagging began.

She took off to raise her family, I give her props for that. To take off again to stay with a husband who may have already checked out (And prefers men!).... not so much.

This marriage has been dunzo. Like someone mentioned earlier, the tour was cancelled because the album wasn't very good and no one was buying tickets. Do you really think that Jimmy Iovine would let Gwen cancel a tour if it was sold out because of her marriage? He wouldn't let her resched dates on her first tour when she was sick while pregnant w/ Kingston. This drama is gonna make the next No Doubt album so good though!

I've been a huge Sublime fan since forever. No Doubt did a lot with them on the local scene. If you do some checking to the old obscure footage shot back when Sublime and No Doubt were working the local scene in CA, Gwen talked about how poorly she was treated by all of them. She talked about how because she was the only female, she had to do the "womanly/female" things, but it was more forced down her throat. The footage talks about the lack of success prior to Gwen hopping on board blah blah blah. There was a lot more, and as a female whose been surrounded by men of all types forever, the stuff she complained about was kind of like, yeah, we'll, what did you expect jumping in a bus filled with stoned tweekers? But you could tell she let it hurt her, she took it to heart.

Maybe this is a way of saying f@ck you to them, since now, they need her more than she needs them.....IMHO

But, I do agree that poor tix sales might have a ton to do with it.

Come on...let's remember Gwen is also a mom and might not want to be away from home that much with two very young kids at home.

The real reason may not be Gwen's problem. This is all just speculation.

A tweet from Gavin today-

"I am in molasses its tricky "

Clearly a reference to Gwen throwing a wrench into his summer plans, lol.

I agree with so many post here. If she's that into being a mom, than don't schedule a tour. The crew, roadies, merchandise sellers all cleared a schedule and loosely budgeted for a tour. Its unfair to them. If its marital discord, staying home won't fix it. Why fix a relationship that she can't be secure enough in to leave for work? If it just wasn't going to be profitable, than no one's missing out on anything except the few fans who bought tickets. @MC lol, thanks for sharing that tweet. I'm sure it is tricky!
