Argo for Best Picture. And of course I'll be watching! Can't wait!!!

Kelly said...

Yes. I make a night of it. Love them for the gowns, and the absolute hilariousness that these people take themselves so seriously.

The only film I saw was Lincoln and I thought DDL was the best part. No interest in Silver Linings or Argo. I do want to see Les Mis & Django though.

prolixe said...

I think Lincoln will win.

Other question - Seth McFarlane hosting? Rick Gervais redux. Should be interesting!

Best picture: I'm undecided between Argo and Twilight Breaking Dawn II

I'm also in a goofy TGIF mood.

Oscar day is one of the few days a year I miss having a TV connection. Tried to watch it online last year, but the servers kept crashing.

EmEyeKay said...

I'll be watching! Have a total Oscar spread planned out. The Future Mr. Kay is going to be bored to tears.

I just can't watch a profession constantly give awards to each other. When MDs, attorneys, nurses, secretaries, etc start doing that, then I'll watch. Besides, it'll all be on line the next morning.

Tyler said...

@Nutty, why no TV connection if it's not being too intrusive to ask?

I am hoping for Argo, but thinking it will be Lincoln. Watch it?? Hell i make a whole weekend at the beach out of it. Right now waiting on 4 of my besties to join me at my place until Monday am. Lots of booze, bacon and laughs.swag bags, oscars bingo with prizes... the whole shebang. 15th year in a row and I look forward to it all year!!

Sometimes I wish I wasn't so cynical, but I find it hard to watch 3 hours of rich people with an easy job pat themselves on the back for being rich with an easy job.

And I think Lincoln will win.

Amartel said...

Zero Dark THirty should win but it'll be Lincoln.

Beasts of the Southern Wild!!

At work, so won't be watching.
Anyway, next day here on the site is always better IMHO.
(Just tell us you've planted a mole, Enty...)

Argo!!!

I'll be watching since Once won't be one and DA is over.

Might work it in around my Walking Dead schedule.

I care as much about awards shows as I do about sports: not at all.

I'll be watching, but I'm not sure if I'll sit at the computer this year like I did last year. I can't wait to see Seth McFarlane. I love his weird sense of humor, and I watched the concert special he did a couple of years ago. He can sing (he does all the songs on Family Guy) and he is such a fan of "Old Hollywood" it will be really interesting to see how he mixes his odd sense of humor with his love of films. I fear this show is going to be a full 4 hours long, with all these musical numbers and tributes they seem to be planning. I'm sure the worst moment of the night will be when Russell Crowe opens his mouth to sing. Ugh, he was horrid in Les Mis.

I'll be watching! Rooting for Argo to win best picture & Jessica Chastain for Zero Dark Thirty.

I don't always watch but lately I've been watching the awards shows mostly because of the people here--it is fun to read all the comments while the show is on.

@Phoenix, we don't have a TV connection because I'm too cheap to pay up for cable, since we watch most of our entertainment via DVDs and downloads.

It has the added benefit that we never see any commercials, which is great when you have children - they don't get exposed to sales pitches for fast food and plastic toys or crazy-ass body image messages.

But I do miss TV on Oscar night, during the Olympics and occasionally for the Super Bowl.

Gayeld said...

I didn't see any of the best picture nominees (this is what happens when family entertainment time is controlled by an iron-fisted three-year old,) so I have no guess on that.

The kids and I will dress up and sit on the couch with lots of goodies and watch the "pre-game show." Then we'll critic the outfits, hairstyles and jewelry of people who are dressed much nicer than we'll ever be. Sometime around the presentation of the second Oscar, we'll all get bored and go do something more interesting, like yardwork.

I have seen very few of the nominated movies this year so I have no idea. I'll probably watch a little bit for Seth MacFarlane, but we'll see how it goes. I like watching award shows for the most part, but sometimes it becomes little too much.

LottaColada said...

Yes I'll be watching and I'm not sure if Argo or Lincoln will win. The director snub for Ben makes me think the academy could also overlook his movie in favor of Lincoln.

I cannot wait to see Anne's best surprise face. I know she's been saving it for this occasion.

Sherry said...

I am in the city this weekend and have cable here so yes I will watch the show. And will be blogging with the rest of the gang!

Argo will win best pic and as much as I want Jessica to win, I am getting the feeling that Jennifer Lawrence will win. DDL for best actor and Sally Field for best supporting..take THAT AnnE!

Gayeld said...

@Nutty_Flavor. I do have cable now, because my mother lives with me and is an ID addict, but I was very happy without cable for a few years. We still watch more Netflix than cable, which I love because I have control over the queue (and a password on the WiiU.) No commercials, back-to-back episodes and your shows are on when you want them.

Although, if the twins don't get off of their Power Rangers kick soon I may have to cut power to the whole house.

Thanks Nutty, and yeah.. you really can get by without a TV and not miss much of what's on TV with the internet these days.

I found this site to live stream the Oscars and/or download an Oscar's app for iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, Android and Kindle Fire

Pulling for Argo, JLAW, and Deniro. I'm a big Family Guy fan (huge is more accurate), but after seeing Billy Crystal KILL IT last year as host, I'm mystified why they don't have him back this year, and every year. They keep trying "fresh" hosts that fuck it all up. Prime example, James Franco.

I predict that Seth MacFarland will be a pompous ass.

TV Junkie said...

Love, love, LOVE the Oscars! And the red carpet coverage! I really want to have a big Oscar party one of these years!

Pip said...

Amen, Munch! I only like to see who wore what.

Comma Chaser said...

I like Argo for Best Picture. I never miss the Oscars.

Unknown said...

I don't think it'll be Argo, particularly since it got the Golden Globe. It should be Django for Best Pic....but it's not Academy PC. I'm calling Lincoln.

Unknown said...

@Amy.....I agree with you. I was disappointed in Argo. I think it's an important movie to see, but not Oscar caliber, IMHO.

greenmountaingal said...

Zero DarkThirty should win, but I have a feeling Les Mis is going to sweep the Oscars. Barf. I speak French, have lived in France, have a love of all things French, but I never liked Les Mis.

Is it wrong that I watch the Oscars mainly for the fashion? This year I'll be watching for the fashion and for Joaquin. I love him.

Last movie I saw in a theater was Moneyball the last one before that was united 93.

I haven't seen any of the nominees.

The Real Dragon said...

Argo or ZDT.

Anonymous said...

Oh my God can you even imagine how completely even more fucking insufferable that snotty cheating asshat Affleck is going to be if he wins the god damn best picture? Please no God.

Jason Blue Eyes said...

I loved SLP but the Argo Best Picture win is a sure thing by this point. I'd love to see De Niro get it. He certainly seems to want it. Besides DD Lewis I don't see Lincoln winning much. It's Spielberg's Color Purple scenario all over again. Boatloads of noms - no wins.

Agent**It said...

dragon, I hope ZDT but I think there's a voting block against it. Shocking, politics at the Oscars !!

The Real Dragon said...

@agent. Reason to hate the oscar more.

I definitely be tuning in now since Joseph Gordon levitt , Channing and other might be stripping

please be true lol

Django is the best picture. The rest are pretty weak.

Turkish Taffy said...

Argo. Lincoln sucked balls. The Oscars are on at 5AM my time. I wake up in time to get best picture and best director.

Django Unchained......

Sam Jackson's character.

Bringing Matt Houston back into my life.

Q Walis
C Waltz.
Helen Hunt
Ang Lee

Will watch red carpet. Then it interferes with walking dead and talking dead, so no.

OneGirlRevolution said...

I loved both Les Miserable and Argo but Silver Linings Playbook was truly one of the best films I've seen in quite a while.

Unknown said...

Argo for best pic
If not Argo, then Zero Dark Thirty.
I hope Bradley Cooper wins best actor. IMO, he was truly great in Silver Linings Playbook.
Naomi Watts was great in The Impossible, so she's my choice for best actress.
Christoph Waltz in Django for Supporting Actor.
Don't have a pick for best supporting actress. Except to say that I hope Anne doesn't win.
I'll be watching from the red carpet to the bitter end.

Eeekalicious said...

Before I had kids, I watched it every year. Now it's not "of general interest" (for pre-tweener and teen boys)so I watch the red carpet stuff and highlights online.

Friday night is movie night, though, and if we don't go out, we stay in and watch something from Turner classic movies. My ex-husband / their godfather has a couple hundred movies recorded on the PVR and an extra hard drive, so we all choose something from it.

Last night we tried Pennies from Heaven (Steve Martin) and it had the word "nipple" in it, so the teen liked it but the littler ones ewwed it. We ended up watching Seven Brides for Seven Brothers and they loved it!

MnGddess said...

Love Seven Brides for Seven Brothers!

As a Philly girl, I will root for Silver Linings Playbook. Loved the movie.

But what I'm really hoping for is that Sally Field wins. She was fantastic in Lincoln.

Not A Ninny said...

You silly people, Argo will win of course, but you're supposed to root for Django Unchained because if it were to actually win Best Picture the epic debauchery that would ensue would provide CDAN with a solid year of Tarantino-related BI's.

prolixe said...

Shut your mouth, B Profane! Enty, don't listen. We do not want Tarantino-Django BIs!!

Anyone watch Scandal (with Kerry Washington)? They had an episode that showed some of the torture methods used to get information. Seriously surprised that aired on ABC.

prolixe said...

We watched The Master last night - holy crap, I can't imagine how this one got past the $cios. I was telling Mr the whole time, all of this is true - the mental waterboarding, the paranoia, the billion year contract - and he had no clue. He said, I knew they were a cult, but wtf?

Also - there were several scenes where I said Joaquin Phoenix HAS to play Mel Gibson at some point. He looked like a younger Mel in his drunk scenes. (Made me miss the Mel from Signs. :( )

Sandy said...

Best Picture: Lincoln or Argo.

Won't watch this year's show because I LOATHE Seth MacFarlane and I will not watch another of AnnE Hathaway's fake, flustery, pseudo-humble, annoying acceptance speeches for yet another award she owes not to her acting ability (which sucks) but for her relentless PR campaign.

There is nothing even remotely interesting about this year's Oscars.

Lelaina Pierce said...

I've only seen 5 of the nominated films, but I'm still rooting for Argo for Best Picture. I'll definitely be watching.
