Off Topic

I wonder what a small country like Qatar will do with 10 soccer stadiums after the World Cup ends.

Knock them down killing a few thousand more poorly paid immigrant workers in the process (cheery).

The World Cup is going to be taken away from them haven't you heard? They won thru corruption and bribes

I got nothing. How is everyone! My house smells amazing, fresh bread, woo hoo!

Kno Won said...

Maybe they could boil water. It's nearly hot enough there. (subjectively, for me.....did you see the John Oliver piece? Very funny. close parens)

TTM. This is my week to make my own sour dough starter. Huge excitement (me that is, the rest have no interest).

@TTM Yum! I envy people who can make bread from scratch. The best I can do is make pizza dough and Cheddar Bay biscuits. lol

Turn them all into Home Depot Garden Centers.

I was going to type something, but by the time blogger loaded, I forgot what it was. FML.

That's awesome, Violet, I have a recipe for sourdough starter that I keep meaning to try! Lemme know how it turns out!

Cheddar Bay biscuits sound amazing, Freya!

Do you guys spray the oven with water when you're baking bread or is my friend who does that crazy?

sandybrook said...

I wish I had a bakery near me that could make fresh bread and real bagels (not the shit they make here that taste like cake)

TalksTooMuch said...

I used to do a wet proof, kinda steamy, Sugar, when I was a commercial baker, but now I use a slightly dampened towel for rises. I do spray the surface of my ciabatta when I bake I though, as it is at such a higher temperature

I made my own bagels once sandy. But they didn't taste like those New York ones I buy. Do you get those ones in the US or are they a bastardised English version?

TalksTooMuch said...

I bring it around to my neighbours, sandy, I never have to mow my lawn

Not a euphemism, by the way

I wanna learn how to make croissants too. Every recipe I've seen says it takes over a day. I had no idea.

Who did you bake for? Is that why you're so good at it?
I've never even tried to bake bread. Too scared that I'll put all this work into it and fuck it up royally. I'll stick to Mac n Cheese, peas, and tuna.

Convert them into expensive condos that no one can afford so they sit empty & get added to websites for abondaoned places.

Moving on from yeast products, I made the BEST cake for Fathers Day. If I can get round to moving my lazy arse I'll put it on your recipe blog TTM.

Kristin Wigs said...

Shelly Shell awesome! Turn it into a Scooby Doo ghost town. It could be the Detroit of the Middle East!

Violet there are two different ways to make bagels the NY way and the wrong way. The Ny way the bagels are fried in oil in pots and the bagels are chewy .The other way is they are baked and are not chewy.

I used to bake at an alcohol and drug addiction rehab centre Sugar, but I've always been at it. I'm sure you'd do awesome at bread baking, it's really simple, just time consuming.

Side note: serving peas in a rehab centre is just mean. Give the poor bastages a spoon, for the love of gawd!

Hopefully Fifa will give them back their bribe and move it elsewhere, severely doubt it. Can only hope. How are athletes meant to play 90mins+ in that heat, huh?

Sillygurl said...

Isn't that how all Olympic cities and World Cup cities are chosen? Plus, they have enough money to bribe the bribery commitee. I should have been a harem whore. Missed life opportunities :(

NY bagels are so yummy bc of the water. The area is known for its superb drinking water and aquaphors. The water in North Jersey even tastes better than south Jersey.

Winning through corruption and bribery is the FIFA way!

As to what Qatar will do with the stadium, at the rate their royal family was going last I heard, those stadia should make dandy places for stoning to death and beheading women who wear lipstick.

I wonder more about this baking bread thing going on than I wonder about soccer stadiums.

Fagin ice holes!!! I just used that last week at work and no one got it!! Stupid 20 year Olds who haven't seen Johnny Dangerously.

I was going to say mass executions, but decided to hold off (JAS said it first).

How do you think the IOC decides which countries get to host the Olympics? Bribery as well.

Sherry said...

SANDYBOO!! Bagels are not boiled in oiled. They are boiled in water and then baked to get a little brown. The wrong way is to skip boiling them in water.

ALSO a bread maker for many many years and no you can't make Croissants in less than a day. Unless you have an 18 hr day. It's time consuming and heartbreaking if they raise to quickly causing the butter to run out. BUY them instead.

surfer said...

I'd also like to add that Montreal bagels (which are famous!), are dipped in honey water, and baked in a wood-burning oven. That gives them their distinct taste and shape.

Same thing many countries do with their Olympic venues, let them dilapidated while the thieves who cut the deals live high on the hog.

Search Abandoned Olympic Venues on the Google.

I gotta be honest, i dont give a rats ass.

Sandy et all- i second the ny bagel love. The crap some people accept as bagels slays me, same with pizza.

Spiffypaws said...

I'm a prof baker. Croissants can be made in 1 day. There is some work involved with rolling the butter in, but the time consuming part is the dough has to rest bet turns in the cooler.
As for the soccer stadiums, they'll prob use'em for public executions and floggings.

Melissa of Grand Island said...

Oh my!!! That sounds wonderful!! I want to try that! I was in Muskoka and tried their famous Butter Tart, oh my!! We don't have those in the states..

Anthony bourdain had a show about Russia a few week ago talking about the Olympic people who raised 64 billion but where did it go. He exposed putins friends who pretty much pocketed the money

FIFA was corrupt long before Qatar got their independence in 1971.

Anyway, the original plan was to build 12 stadia (8 are required by FIFA). It's now to be scaled back to 8 and some of them will be temporary stadiums.

Was at their new-and-far-too-large airport last week. Don't like the place - their "culture" and arrogance. Bahrain next door is much more laid back (and also multiples smaller - doubt they could build 1 stadium there).

TLP said...

I doubt we'll ever find out. Think that FIFA will move it. They'll never admit a mistake and definitely won't mention the bribes that are on record.
