People who voted for him just ignored the one basic fact about hiring -- you don't hire someone who has absolutely no experience for the job, to a position that requires you have experience. That's what entry level jobs are for. I'm not a supporter by any means, but most of what is happening is due to a complete lack of experience. I don't envy him one bit. Yes, the blind is made up on the basis of the girl band that Louis is producing. No, once more - none of them are gay, though Harry has had some friendships with guys (outside of the band!) that seem a little surprising. There are NO actual gay rumours of ANY of them that were not completely made up by the obsessive fanbase that wants to see them together (and absolutely not gay with _someone else_). It was based on early jokesy playacting that they dialled back when they realised the fans were taking it seriously, but they didn't account for the crazy echo space of the current fan culture. When that picture material stopped, fans started actively manipulating pics and videos to further sell their fantasy and keep it up by fanfic, sheer lies on sites like this and harassment of the band members' and their families' social media. It's all about teenage girls deliberately misled by power kicks in the fandom social pyramid - many of them not native speakers of English, from countries where being gay is still actively dangerous so it's a huge, tragic fantasy for them that the band is being forcefully kept in the closet (which has been proven not to be feasible, also, they're not even with the same label anymore). None of it has any real basis, any reported comments, sightings etc. were proven to be made up by fans.
Louis dated Eleanor Calder for three years, fathered a baby after he broke up with her, then dated actress Danielle Campbell for a year. Liam has been in a couple of long-term relationships with women, and there's no reason to believe his relationship with Cheryl was some pr plan. He's earnest, romantic and young; she's undeniably gorgeous and he's always idolised her. Zayn was with Perrie Edwards before Gigi, and has been rumoured to have cheated constantly - always with girls. Niall has actually not had a stable relationship with anyone, so isn't it odd that he's said to be the straight one? Except it isn't: there's no-one in the band to pair him with, so the fans allow him to be "the token straight one".
They're not gay. It just so happened that this boyband does not have a closeted gay one. Possibly one unlabeled one (Harry), and who knows how they end up identifying in their lives, because people are allowed to, but for now, nope.
I'm sorry for the TL;DR, but this is the widest fandom conspiracy theory ever, made possible by the new forms of social media in several self-feeding ways, and it has real, harmful impact on real people. The fans harass Louis' 12-year-old sisters when they dare post material of their nephew, or Danielle (before); they sent manipulated porn that supposedly resembled Louis and Harry to his then 15-year-old sister; they spewed hate on his mother when she posted about her grandson (all the while in hospital for cancer!); the endless hate the son's mother and her family get is utterly vile. And in those parts of fandom that believe the conspiracy theories up to and including that the baby is fake (he's 1y now / a clone of his father!), they behave exactly like a cult, bullying people into not questioning even the craziest party line in the name of wanting to, supposedly, "free" people who have no need of freeing. If only they'd put that energy to defending _actual_ LGBTQ people! But no, it's got to be these, because they just want their perfect story.

People need to understand that half of Hollywood/music industry is closeted. Even politicians!! Even members of royal families around the world!! If people want change start supporting actors, actresses, musicians , politicians and people in everyday life around you who have the balls to live life free of the closet. I acutally saw two of the guys hanging out at the Edge in London a while ago (well my friend recognised them), they didn't give the impression of being uncomfortable in this kind of setting. Personally, I don't judge people who stay in the closet for their career, but I don't get why people always have to try so hard when it can be so simple. Nobody needs more than one official girlfriend to come across as hetero. If you want to cover up your sexuality - go average, not overboard. So many gay people in the industry go overboard with their public hetero image to a point where it backfires.

I've been following Cowell's bullshit since the late 90's and if it's one thing this unbearable dimwit is good at, it's sucking the life out of his clients and treating them like crap, especially when contracts are ending and there's no extension happening (which is the case here). It's not hard to see he's trying to fuck with these guys public image (something his clients are not in control of) to destroy the brand.
