Blind Items Revealed #2

March 25, 2020

This late night talk show host is using this opportunity to try and get new blood on his writing staff. He says for fresh ideas. Really, it is so he can pay them less and keep more for himself.

James Corden

The UK fast food industry collapsed when this big city man left these shores.

That is why Howard Stern hired a pump & dump stockbroker and a drummer to be writers, they worked for peanuts.

I hear he has Gordon Elliott tied up in his basement. He stole Gordon's career.

To be fair, this is a smart move by Cordon. His writing is incredibly hackneyed. Prior to Trump's election, late night viewers favored the sillier, fun and games style of talk show that Cordon and Fallon fronted. Fallon was KILLING the other guys in the ratings. It wasn't close. It was to the point that Fallon could demand most guests ONLY do Fallon's show and not do other shows. There was rampant speculation (and not all of it was planted by Cordon's people) that CBS was thinking about dumping Colbert (who was really foundering) and replacing Colbert with Cordon.
.
Then Trump won the election. And the people who watched the late night shows on the Networks suddenly DEMANDED political commentary. Fallon floundered. His numbers declined from what had been a huge lead to the point where he usually loses to Colbert. And Cordon was never anything more than a pale imitation of Fallon. Fallon's on camera likeability carried him through this trying time. He's not number 1 any more, but his numbers are still good enough that he's not really worried about being replaced. And the current situation favors Fallon' easy going likeability. It has become somewhat obvious that Colbert's sharp political commentary is the result of a good writer's room, one that is dependent on the writers being physically together. The remote stuff from Colbert doesn't work, and I expect to soon seen thinly veiled blinds here about the stress of being with his family wrt Colbert. He's pretty miserable.
.
Back to Cordon. His whole show was dependent on pre taped bits (usually expensive looking bits that take a lot of work, and a lot of people, to create) and group interviews. Both of these things are no goes right now, and probably through the summer. Yikes. He was going to have to retool his writers room. No one is calling for him to replace Colbert anymore. Frankly, now is probably a good time to replace writers. By firing some, they'll get more benefits under the current bailout plan. And they'll have tons of time to find new jobs. Because they had to go, they were going to go, so now was probably the time to pull that trigger.

God in heaven, how did we Americans get stuck with this fat, smarmy, untalented ass-kisser? How I wish we had Craig Ferguson and his robot skeleton back...

What I've read about him seems to be true. He is a horrible human being off camera. I wonder if the closeted bisexual rumor is also true....
