And the Grammys prove themselves as an irrelevant joke as usual.

You know- if Lady Caca wins, she's probably going to make a costume out of her award.

Is Kanye going to make another surprise appearance?

I am waiting for someone to explain to me how Hall & Oates are in there with a song that they did years and years ago. Did someone mix in the nominations from 1982 or something?

OK, here is one thing I never understood. What is the difference between "song of the year" and "record of the year"? Are they awards for songwriting and production respectively or something like that?

I also read somewhere that Lady Gaga's camp are upset because she can't be nominated for breakout of the year because she was nominated last year and now they want to change the rules. Um, yeah. About that.

"Darryl Hall and John Oates, for 'Sara Smile'"

Um, what? Dear god, please tell me I haven't gone back in time - I can't bear to go through high school again.

the.princess.leia said...

@lifeiscrazy: It's from 1976 but the version that's nominated is from 2008's Live at the Troubadour

mooshki said...

Oh, and please tell me that Kanye is invited to the ceremony. If he is, I might actually watch.

the.princess.leia said...

@HH: SOTY goes the songwriter, ROTY goes to the artist and whoever produced the song

Brew Belle said...

Have Kings of Leon been nominated before and that's why they aren't eligible for best new artist?

And please, God, don't let Lady GaGa win anything...

the.princess.leia said...

@Mooshki: I don't know if he'll be invited or not. I think I read the reason he wasn't nominated was because of that crap.

the.princess.leia said...

@Booster Seat: They won a Grammy last year for Sex on Fire

warmislandsun said...

Thx princess.leia for the explanation - I was confused about the record/song thing, too.

i can't believe U2 is still getting nominated for stuff. Every song they do sounds THE SAME. they're crap.

the Grammy's are such a shit show.

Is "Single Ladies" new this year? Or am I all messed up?

So many of these awards have no relevance any more. Some of the best writers/ performers/ etc. have never even gotten a nod. It's just an excuse to buy new clothes and walk the red carpet.

good to know! I had no idea either

The Grammys just aren't fun anymore. The awards themselves have never really been relevant -- it's the music industry equivalent of getting elected to student council. But at least the shows were fun, because you'd always have these train wrecks of combinations doing the presenting. "Now, here to present the best new country female singer award, Ol' Dirty Bastard and Yo-Yo Ma!" Hilarity ensues.

Now, they actually have competent professionals running the show, so it runs smoothly and efficiently -- and therefore is terminally dull. For example, last night's "Grammy Nomination Concert" was ably hosted by LL Cool J, and had some good performances. And therefore wasn't really worth watching, even though it was entertaining.

This is music, for pete's sake -- not the Tonys! We want to see a drunken Keith Richards pawing Celene Dion while trying to pronounce "Alison Krauss and Union Station"! Please make it so!

OT but i was just looking at past posts trying to catch up on stuff.

Ms. Cool added a link to the pic she had published in Life&Style mag on the original post.

Looks like she's having a little promotional/contest thingy if you buy some...

just thought i'd pass that along to people that showed interest

What a fricken joke the Grammies are. The only worthwhile thing about them is the Fashion Police the next day.

LOL @Mooshki.
Love your Kermit. Did you see the Muppets Bohemian Rhapsody remix?

Maja With a J said...

Thanks for the clarification, Princess Leia!

mooshki said...

Yes, Beensie, it was awesome. I love the Muppets so much!

Ugh! I always get depressed when I read any award show nominees because there are way too many undeserving people on the list (i.e., Beyonce?!?!? Her songs all sound the same to me). Maxwell's album was great and (believe it or not) used real musical instruments and no voice distortion, so I am very happy to see that his song was nominated, but it will be drepressing when he loses to Taylor "grocery store background music" Swift. Maybe they should have Kanye there to stir things up a bit :)

Sigh. A.Pimp.Named.DaveR just reminded me how much I miss Ol' Dirty Bastard and the Wu Tang.

Sounds like a total snooze fest.

@ HarrietHellfire: "Lady Gaga's camp" = Lady Gaga. What camp??

@KristenS: I used to love to watch Joan Rivers snark on Fashion Police on E! but then she was banished to some cable channel I don't get. It's just not the same anymore. *sniffs*

I suppose what I meant to say was "Perez Hilton".

Electrick said...

Well that saves me having to watch or care.

What a crock of boredom...

Tenley said...

The sad thing is Taylor Swift can't sing, and she's going to sweep of course. I mean yes, if this is what the Grammys are now (as opposed to, say, voters' choice awards) then what a crock.

Pookie said...

yayyyyy little taylor!

i was almost certain lady gaga didn't fall w/in period of eligibility. good lord, between her and tpain the grammys have seriously jumped the shark.

Jasmine said...

I think Gaga is also up for Album of the Year~
she may get that, who knows?
I hope she does, fingers(and eyes) crossed!

Jasmine said...

oh, and i too am confused by record of the yr and song of the yr>
but i gotta say i am divided between black eyed peas' "i gotta a feeling"
and gaga's "poker face"
because honestly b.e.peas's song was really really good.
