Publicity Drive Over - Natalie Wood Death Ruled Accidental

Surprising no one, the Sheriff's department here in Los Angeles, concluded that no one made any mistakes back in 1981 and that Natalie Wood's death was an accident. I don't think anyone actually believes it, but I also don't think the Sheriff's department or any police department is in the habit of going back in time and saying their detectives did anything wrong. I am convinced the only reason they even pretended to take a look at the case was because it was the 30th anniversary of the death and a book being released.

The department says they conducted new interviews and other investigative work but could find nothing to change their original conclusion. Did anyone expect anything different?

I think that there will always be speculations of foul play surrounding Natalie's death, regardless of falling back on the original conclusion. Her death was sad but very fishy. I feel as though more went down on that boat than we'll ever know.

^Agreed.

They sure did shake things up though. With people lawyering up, and fidgeting in front of cameras.

What a waste of time and money.

I heard the other day that they were leaving it as a cold case. I guess that means they can go back and revisit it at some future date.

@surfer - maybe they are waiting for the main principles to die. morbid? yes, but probably true.

I didn't believe it was an accident then (I was pretty young though so I was going with my mom on that one) and I don't believe it now.

I don't believe it was an accident but I don't think it's provable in court after 30 years. I'm glad the story got attention though.

No kidding. It was. They were drunk and fighting. It was known that Natalie liked the booze.

@Rita, I need 'em too... now that they're all gone, I want more! However, I've settled for burning a candle that SMELLS like cupcakes.

EmEyeKay said...

I wonder if someone makes a bacon-scented cupcake? Going to look that up now...

EmEyeKay said...

I meant, bacon-scented CANDLE. Tho a bacon-scented cupcake would be... uh, nevermind.

Rita said...

Not a fan of bacon, but I'm guessing Enty would not be able to contain his glee if he receives a batch of bacon-scented candles! :)

i think they can open and close this investigation as many times as they want...there will always be people (like me) who'll think RW had something to do w/ it.

THe statute of limitations has run out on everything except premeditated murder which has no statute of limitations. Not even the conspiracy theorists believe that there was anything premeditated in her death.

Would love to hear Chris Walken's point of view.

My Momma makes the most delicious cupcakes. Banana cake, banana filled, peanut butter icing & sprinkled with bacon.

I think it was an accident, too. I wish people would let it go. Just because the people who were there don't want to talk about it doesn't mean something nefarious occurred.

Rita said...

@Dani - wow! Sprinkled with Bacon? I'm positive you are giving Enty ideas. He's going to be rolling in those cupcakes!

No, I didn't.

Agree, Pookie

there is no way it was an accident. her family fought hard to be heard about her phobia of open water. she'd go down with a sinking ship before she would get in a dinghy and row away...or secure it whatever.

my theory is this:
RW thought NW and CW were having an affair, fought and she went to her room. CW came to console her, RW walked in lost his mind and CW went to bed. RW and NW continued to fight and then somehow her body ended up in the water. I don't believe there was any affair to be jealous of.

@Rita - she calls them "Elvis Cupcakes". People are weirded out by the bacon on a cupcake...until they take a bite! Deeelish!

@Jax - exactly how I've always thought it went down.
