Woody Harrelson Thinks He Is Better Than You

When you are an actor or actress who goes on Reddit and agree to the format of Ask Me Anything, the readers of the site expect to be able to ask the subject person anything. Woody Harrelson supposedly knew this going in to his 15 minute chat on the site but deflected every question asked of him and made every answer about going to see his new movie Rampart. At some point I even thought it might not have been Woody answering the questions, and instead was just a PR person who knew none of the answers to the questions being asked, but Woody did say that he kept circling back to his movie because he considers his time valuable. This of course means he considers the readers' time less valuable and that they had 15 minutes to spare in their lives to ask him questions and they should be grateful he even acknowledged them at all. Oh, and go spend big bucks to his movie. I did not scroll through every question, but did anyone ask Woody about his contract killer father or if he was the actual killer of JFK?

Reddit is insufferable.

Ugh, I straight out can't stand this guy. He's anti-charisma to me.

I'm sorry but who besides a total loser even wants to chat with Woody Harrelson????

Love his movies though.

I saw the comment thread and right off the bat someone posted something offensive and it got upvoted to the top of the thread. If I were Woody I'd have shut it down at that point.

Honestly I feel bad for the guy, I don't think he anticipated what he was getting into. Many of the Q&A's on reddit are fascinating, but some jerk commenter started it off on the wrong foot and it spiraled into chaos after that.

I was going to say maybe someone asked a question that was unreasonable or something...

Woody is still part of the old Hollywood. Where they are treated like royalty and normally shielded from peasants having direct access to him. This was way out of his normal routine.

But on the other hand, it would be nice if people could act cool and not go for the juglar the first chance they get. The internet mob really needs to learn how to handle themselves better. Ruins the fun for everybody in the end when all you get is an actor saying see my movie for 15 mins becuase he isn't going to answer offensive questions.

I love him too, I'm really surprised at the hate.

Can I just ask the writer of this blog why you would post this? You slam the guy but admit you didn't even read the full interview?

After movies like zombieland and the one about the rape of Nanking I can't hate him.

Woody is only a supporting character nowadays. He's not good enough to be a lead anymore. Even Bruce still gets leads. Woody's always been a jerk though. I met him during the filming of Cheers in Boston. He's a prick.

I like Woody, to a degree. If you dames want to play that marry, choke, kill or whatever. Or is it bang choke kill.....I think he'd be my guy (Forgive me Lord!!).

However, I do not know what this Reddit is. The only thing I know about it is my 14 yr old, know it all (or so he thinks) son loves it (or did when he still had a laptop). Enough said.

Have a good one dames. I'm going for a hike today to enjoy this bizarre winter. Godbless.

In his defense,he had to sit through the questions for 15 minutes but I doubt it took anyone 15 minutes to ask one question so the fans or whatever didn't have to be there the entire time.

I saw him on the view last week and I was ooh so hoping someone would ask about his father.

Why his PR team thought it was a good idea to chat there is...odd. Reddit is overflowing with douchebags.

What is this about his father? I don't think I have ever heard about this before!

Ok. I have a feeling that this is going to be long, but here it goes.

I am going to have to side with Woody on this one. I really don't think he had even heard of reddit, let alone how the IAmA subreddit works. Many celebrities have used it successfully in the past, but they knew what they were getting themselves into.

It is not a chat program or an internet talk show. Users submit questions, and the highest rated questions (they are upvoted by other site users) are at the top of the page. For an AMA of an actor, especially one who has been around awhile, there are going to be thousands of questions. Several celebrities have spent hours of their time answering.

Woody seemed to be under the impression that he was going to answer a few questions about his new movie and that's it. That's not how reddit rolls, and the redditors quickly turned on him. Fair? Not really. But someone should have done their homework, namely the PR person who set it up.

At the very least, there have been celebrities who announce the AMA and say that they will answer the top 10 comments via video, effectively using their time. Or Louis C. K. did an AMA, but also used the platform to help promote his newest project.

Side note: does anyone else remember hearing gossip from ages ago about Woody Harrelson crashing a prom while drunk? I did, and someone else on reddit did too, only he said he went to that school and claimed that Woody took some girl's virginity. Woody answered the question, but claimed that it was false.

It all got a bit out of hand when someone asked him this question:

"I swear this is a true story. I went to a high school in LA and you crashed our prom after party (Universal Hilton). You ended up taking the virginity of a girl named Roseanne. You didn't call her afterwards. She cried a lot. Do you remember any of this and can confirm or have you been so knee deep in hollywood pooty for so long that this qualifies as a mere blip?"

Someone did ask about his father too:

"Is it true your father was a contract killer? If so, how was it growing up with him?
Huge fan, by the way!"
"Is it true that Oliver Stone gave you the role in Natural Born Killers because he thought you had the 'eyes of a killer'? Him not knowing that your dad was actually a killer for hire."

General consensus is that it was a publicist replying who didn't understand Reddit.

@Maja: The story of Woody's dad is right up your alley. A convicted contract killer (of a grain dealer and a district court judge) who claimed to have been involved in the assassination of JFK; he alternately professed and recanted the story on more than one occasion. Quite a tale.

There are some really good "I am A"s and "AMA"s on reddit but, reddit just like everything else, including the comments on this blog get ruined by idiot.
We should all head over and take it back.

Added: There is a person called Helpful_Table_Maker who sorts through the crap and puts just the questions and answers in a table so they can be enjoyed.

I've seen these Q&A's with celebs before and some people are just total assholes/disrespectful. I don't really blame Woody here, at all.
