YAY for Peter Dinklage for getting nominated, pretty much the best actor working right now. Yeah I said it and I stand by it. Also, I gotta say I squealed a little when I saw how many Downton Abbey noms there were. Yay for Lady Mary and Anna! And the amazing Maggie Smith!

Is this where I get to go on and on about how great Season 4 of Breaking Bad is? IT WAS SOOOOO GOOOOOOD!

Netflix released it on Sunday and I finished all the episodes yesterday, then watched the Season 5 premier on amc.com.

Magnets, bitch! Yeah!

nova said...

Wow, congratulations to Lena Dunham and Girls!

@EmEyeKay I KNOW RIGHT?? I think Bryan Cranston has redefined my conception of what a television actor can be.

Loving the nominations for Sherlock!!!

"Reality or reality competition host"
This is a category?

"Real Time with Bill Maher"
This is a variety Series?

Wow.

We had never seen Breaking Bad so we are watching it via Netflix from the beginning. I'm hooked on it !

anita_mark said...

Maybe this will give 30 Rock a full season commitment?

Kristin said...

Am I missing something? I never noticed before but all the categories have a different number of nominees. Has it always been like that and I just never noticed?

Cathy said...

I like Modern Family and I get that it's a hilarious ensemble show, but to have one show take up four of the six supporting actors in a comedy slots is getting a little ridiculous. And if even one of them isn't nominated, people get in such an uproar. Can't they come up with some new category, like best ensemble cast or something like that?

EmEyeKay said...

@nova - truly, BB is my favorite thing on TV, network or otherwise. Bryan Cranston is amazing.

goheels83 said...

Game of Thrones! Breaking Bad! Yeaaaa

iheartgoss said...

I had these exact same thoughts. Panderers...

Kim D Esq said...

BB should win, as should Bryan Cranston. Nothing else comes close.

Am I blind? Having an aneurysm? ANOTHER snub for Shameless? WTH.

Marci said...

Yay for Veep! My friend Tim is on that show, and if you haven't seen it yet, he and the show itself are hilarious!!

seaward said...

Bryan Cranston is fucking unbelievable. It will be a travesty if he doesn't win.
I don't understand why there are reality tv categories, and I ESPECIALLY don't understand why Chenbot isn't nominated for best host!!

Astrid said...

I am very happy about the Sherlock nominations. (And I can't stand how long it is until the third series is out!)

sifichick said...

YAY! For Game of Thrones.

WTF? No noms for Walking Dead?

amazonblue said...

Bendie vs. Idris, wow.

timebob said...

I honestly think network and cable should have seperate categories for drama and actors. Networks can't compete with the level of cable and the creative freedoms they have.

Love Peter Dinklage so glad he is being recognized like this.

a non a miss said...

Amber- I think shameless got a nom for best guest star or something like that for Joan Cusack.

Jolene Jolene said...

YES to Game of Thrones! YES to GIRLS! But yeah, no Walking Dead?? That is SUCH a fantastic show. There's a lot of good TV on right now, especially drama, so I feel like WD is the 6th man. :(

Jolene Jolene said...

Oh! And the fact that anything involving The Big Bang Theory is considered "outstanding" is a joke. That show is laughably bad. Just so awful and not funny. They might as well nominate Two and a Half Men again.

figgy said...

Betty White's Off Their Rockers is hilarious, glad to see it got a nom.

Yay for Big Bang Theory, and Yay for Jim Parsons.

figgy said...

@Jolene, are we watching the same show? ;-) I absolutely love Big Bang Theory, it cracks me up. of course, I just started watching it a couple of months ago, but now my husband and I are hooked on it in re-runs.

a non a miss said...

All this BB/Cranston praise is kind of making me wanna go home and watch every episode! Its a looong wait for GoT and Downton to start up again and I need a new show that I can watch on netflix.

seaward said...

Oh, I also want to say I'm relieved The Office wasn't nominated for anything. Maybe this means NBC will finally put it out of its misery.

luckylass said...

It sucks that the networks are putting out such shit shows. Most of the good stuff is on the premium channels and cable networks (AMC...). I don't even bother with the small channel numbers anymore.

seaward said...

@rejectedcarebear oh my god WATCH IT! It is hands down the best show I've ever seen. Walt's (Cranston) transformation from episode 1 to now...oh my god just watch it.

EmEyeKay said...

@rejected... ITA w/seaward. Last night I watched Season 1, episode 1, I'm going to watch the whole thing over again.

lizness said...

HOW IS SURVIOR AND PROBST NOT NOMINATED. AND THE STUPID VOICE IS!
I am loving the nominations for Lead Actress in a comedy. So much goodness going on.

cheesegrater15 said...

Why was Missing nominated as a miniseries? I thought it was just a series that got cancelled.

Paisley said...

How is American Horror Story in the miniseries category? It had the same number of episodes as Mad Men.

Ditto on Vicki's comment about Missing.

a non a miss said...

@seaward and @em, are all of the seasons (minus the current one on tv) available on netflix? I have a half day at work so I have the entire day to get obsessed.

Unknown said...

American Horror Story!!!!

a non a miss said...

Re: american horror story, its considered a miniseries since the events of the first season wrapped up and the second season will be different (but with some of the same actors) idk, that's what I read on EW.

Rose said...

Annoyed but not surprised that Community gets no love.

EmEyeKay said...

@rejected - yes. They just added #4. Go, watch!

BlisterPlease said...

I fucking LOVE LUTHER!

(sorry, never get to yell that out :) )

cheesegrater15 said...

Rose, the alternate universe episode was nominated for writing.

AKM said...

I was wondering the same thing about "AHS" and "Missing." And yeah, "Missing" was a full show that just got cancelled. Huh?

These Emmy categories have me as confused as Enty's A-B-C ratings.

ClearlyDisturbed said...

Missing was always a 10 episode show. Why do people say it got cancelled? There is a big difference between cancelled and not doing another one.

Hammer_Girl said...

With this being the last season of Breaking Bad Cranston should have the win locked down. Wish Aaron Paul could have got a nomination though.

I really liked The Office this year. I don't miss Michael.

AKM said...

"Missing was always a 10 episode show. Why do people say it got cancelled? There is a big difference between cancelled and not doing another one."

Are we positive that it was ALWAYS supposed to only be a 10-epi show, and ABC isn't just back-pedaling? I thought I read that it ended on a cliffhanger. Why do that if that's all she wrote?

I don't really care either way, as I never watched it. I was just wondering.

I DID watch, and LOVE, "AHS." And despite the fact that it will be have a completely different plot, locale, characters, etc., I still don't see how that can qualify as a miniseries rather than a regular series.

Oh, Hollyweird. You baffle me daily.

AKM said...

Ugh..."will have a completely..." No "be."

I wish there was an Edit feature here.

I'm really surprise Shameless wasn't nominated.

Grey said...

Lena Headey from Game of Thrones was honestly robbed. Such a bummer

The Black Cat said...

That is odd about American Horror Story, and where the Hell is Jessica Lange's nomination????? Please, Connie Britton was ok but not nomination worthy compared to Jessica.

cheesegrater15 said...

Clearly/Disturbed it was reported as being cancelled.

Grey said...

Jessica Lange, Frances Conroy, and Dennis O'Hare were all nominated in the supporting category for AHS

O'Really said...

Loooooove me some Heisenberg!! Why the hell wasn't Jesse nominated yo?!

I am so happy about Game of Thrones and Downton Abbey geting some love, but I am BEYOND THRILLED that my beloved Sherlock and my pretend boyfriend Benedict Cumberbatch were nominated. I luuuuuuurve that show and that actor! When are they going to stop teasing us with only three or four episodes a year? Also, the guy who played Moriarty was the shit. He was fabulous -- funny and menacing, all at once.

The Walking Dead wasn't nominated because this past season sucked balls. Plus, the writing staff desperately needs to either hire some women or get rid of the ones they have and hire others. All of the female characters on that show are so annoying, I am actively rooting for a few of them to get zombiefied. Luckily, I've seen a trailer for this upcoming season and it looks a lot better than Season 2, Zombies on the Farm.

Unknown said...

Walking Dead???

Sons of Anarchy???

No nod for Lena Hadley???

These people don't watch the same tv I do, that's for sure.

ClearlyDisturbed said...

The report is incorrect. It was a 10 episode show. They always said the story would be completed in 10 episodes.that doesn't mean that there wasn't hope for another season with another story but that is not the same as cancelled. I will go with not picked up but even disagree with that terminology.

I sign a contract to teach. If they or I choose not to sign another contract does not mean I quit or got fired. If they or I break my contract during the contract period then I either quit or got fired. Very big difference.

so sad about no love for Community. I just started getting into this show and am loving it. awesome to see Michelle Dockery and Hugh Bonneville nominated! Downton is such an amazing show all around. maybe next Emmys cousin Matthew can get some love =)

Happy for Downton Abbey, Sherlock, Breaking Bad & Idris Elba, what a fine man Idris is.

Little Miss Smoke and Mirrors said...

That Ashley Judd nomination is a fucking joke. How the fuck did they get that terrible show Missing shoved into the miniseries category? If a show is canceled, it becomes a miniseries? WTF? Oh and she sucks. And no one is going to beat Julianne Moore in that category.

No Shameless??? SHAMELESS!!!

Also, sad not to see Laura Linney or anything from the Big C.

Sherlock and Cumby FTW!!!

MnGddess said...

Maybe Jolene does not "get" The Big Bang Theory. It is one of the best comedies out there. Makes me laugh the entire show.

And no one mentioned the Ashley Judd nomination? Who even saw that show? And I bet she comes to the awards riding her high horse like the princess that she is...

Elizabeth said...

I buy a lot of British TV series for the treadmill and just got Luther. Haven't started it yet but happy to see it's good enough to have been nominated!

Omg...Timothy Olyphant just gets better and better doesn't he? I am addicted to Justified and gotten a few friends and family hooked on it.

Mhdz said...

Once again, the Emmy voters have proven that they're streets behind. As far as comedy anyway.

Jolene Jolene said...

@Texshan, I WILL GIVE YOU THAT! I f-cking HATE every single woman on Walking Dead. They are all completely useless, sitting around the farm trying to figure out where the hell f-cking Carl went. You're right. Totally. I hope next season is better. The end of last season was pretty good, but nothing compared to season 1.

@figgy, I don't get TBBT. I just don't! I don't find it funny AT ALL. I've watched a few minutes here and there, and it reminds me of Two and a Half Men, where the jokes are just so obvious. Sorry! :)

Agent**It said...

Justified. Walter Goggins is my favorite.

Elizabeth said...

I don't watch Justified but Tim Olyphant, I love. I didn't know who he was until I saw A Perfect Getaway. By the end of the movie I was saying "Who is that guy?!" then I saw he was in the movie with Jennifer Garner, Catch and Release. The movie was just okay but the kiss was a 10. Yep, love Tim Olyphant.

Unknown said...

Bryan Cranston must win! He is so awesomely scary as Walter White.

mooshki said...

Regina King is robbed yet again. No one will ever convince me that there's no racism at play. She is fucking brilliant.

Walking Dead - they need to kill Lori off ASAP! I am placing a lot of hope on Michonne. They are fucking idiots for firing Darabont after season 1. Last season mostly sucked balls.

Not A Ninny said...

"Maybe this will give 30 Rock a full season commitment?"

30 Rock was shut out in the writing category for the first time. It's no longer a critic's darling.

Most of the key writers for 30 Rock have already left or have new project commitments, so it would be impractical to extend next season for a full run, as much as I'd like to see that.

Peregrine White said...

These nominations are disappointing.

"Hemingway & Gellhorn" was hideous. If Hemingway was able, he would have smacked Owen. Oh, by the way, HBO... Gellhorn shot herself also.

"Sherlock" was also disappointing. The second and third episodes ranged between disappointing to awful.

"Boardwalk Empire" and "Game of Thrones" continue HBO's tradition of dreary dramas with high production values and prestigious casts.

"Justified" and "Community" were robbed.

SashaJames2 said...

Yayyyy for curb your enthusiasm but not happy Boss was overlooked. In my opinion, brilliant show.

Not A Ninny said...

"If Hemingway was able, he would have smacked Owen."

I'm quite well read in Hemingway, and I felt that Owen's characterization was pretty good. Papa would have disliked the stuff about smacking around women (even though he did), or backstabbing Gellhorn over the Collier's job (didn't happen quite like that). But he would have loved the part where Owen charged with the Republican infantry (which didn't happen either).

"Oh, by the way, HBO... Gellhorn shot herself also."

Gellhorn committed suicide with pills. What the movie leaves out is that Mary practically invited Papa to kill himself by leaving his shotguns within reach when he was clearly suicidal.

I give the flick a solid B for historicity. By the way, the character of Sidney is supposed to be Sidney Franklin, the first Jewish toreador...who was also gay.

Jumpshot said...

Ashley Judd? Is this a joke? Did they run out of other choices? She was horrible. The whole show was terrible. It wasn't a mini-series or a movie, it was a pilot that got cancelled because it sucked.

Anonymous said...

I'm so happy and yet so disappointed. I'm not really sure which one wins out at the moment.

So happy that "Sherlock" and my beloved Benedict Cucumberpatch are nominated. It really is the best show on TV right now, in my opinion.

Yet, (and this might not be a popular opinion, but I stand by it) I'm super disappointed that Hugh Laurie wasn't nominated for "House". I haven't seen all of Season 8 yet (no spoilers please!), so I don't know how solid it is, but it bothers me that Hugh hasn't won an Emmy for his work on that show. He's been nominated before, but as this was his last year to win, it really bothers me that he isn't even given the chance. He was robbed.

Yay! But also, grr.

Lelaina Pierce said...

I feel so very out of the loop. I have only seen 1 of the 6 nominated dramas. :-/

I really enjoyed Girls. It's Lena Dunham's first series, so she has got to be beyond excited.

@Amber - ITA re: Shameless. SUCH a good cast and show.

poovey-tunt said...

The Emmys will continue to be dead to me another year. No Nick Offerman, no peace.

Anonymous said...

Oooh, Nick Offerman was robbed as well! AND Nathan Fillion! Thanks for the heads-up, @anongkhla.

There is no justice!

Rose said...

Thanks Vicki! Remedial Chaos Theory is one of the best episodes of the series.

lzahart said...

I'm very psyched for Sherlock/BC but wish the nom was for The Reichenbach Fall, that one I thought was the best of the 3 this year. And wish Moriarty got a supporting nom, he beat out Watson in that category @ BAFTAs, and he was really really amazing as that character.

Otherwise.... YO BITCH WHATS UP BREAKING BAD! Bryan and Aaron for the win, yo.

lzahart said...

And @EmEyeKaye another thing we seem to have in common...

"Magnets, bitch!"
"YEAH SCIENCE!"
"Gatorade me, bitch."
"You know ebola, it's a disease, on the Discovery channel?"

As you can see, I kind of have a huge fancrush on Jesse.

And everyone here, if you like really good TV written for smart people, go out and watch S1 of BB. Then come back in 4 days when you have inhaled seasons 1-4 and join us in our praise of this amazing yet terrifying show! I didn't think it could keep getting more intense but damn, does it.

Matthew said...

It seems that a few of ya got confused about what was posted.

Aaron Paul and Jessica Lange got nominated, just as supporting actors, which makes sense.

Bryan Cranston should be the favorite. He took down Jon Hamm Hugh Laurie and Michael C Hall multiple times.

These noms irk me. Yeah, the nom committee is all out for Modern Family. Give it a few noms, but it dominating best supporting actor category is criminal. In my humble opinion, Dan Pudi and Nick Offerman are individually better than anyone from that show.

Lastly, Big Bang sucks. Totally jumped the shark. It was funny and quirky in the beginning, but they have thrown that away to become popular. SO be it, it worked, but to pretend that show is good anymore is laughable.
