What A++ list actress who is best known for starring in a comedy franchise didn’t get her A++ list status overnight. She worked long and hard for a leading lady part, spending several years in the doldrums of B-movies. She also said she avoided the casting coach entirely, although the boss of the first studio she was under contract to bragged otherwise. The actress refuted his claims with “he made a game of chasing me around his office until I threw one of my high heel shoes at him to make him stop. He was so full of s**t.”

She was a sex symbol, played Nora in The Thin Man movies, worked in movies for over 3 full decades, was given an honorary Oscar
Most famous as the costar of the Thin Man series with William Powell. The first one is terrific, the rest varying degrees of so-so. Played Boris Karloff's daughter in "The Mask of Fu Manchu". I also enjoyed "The Rains Came". Very very long career, but never even nominated for an Oscar. She was given an honorary one in 1991 or so.

Thank you for the civility in the comments on this BI reveal. The in-fighting on the others was getting most tiring. I come here to read the gossip, occasionally comment and have fun. The trolling and insults takes the fun out of it.
She was great in cheaper by the dozen.
I've watched Mr. Blandings so many times and wished that I had her kind of problems.
The funniest scene for me is when she is explaining a color to the guy in charge of the paint.
She was a favorite of FDR.
