There have been actual conversations about bringing the public partners of two leads into the next season in small roles.  Nobody is confused about what the reaction would be. A certain part of the fandom would lose it, and that is being treated as a positive. The leads are tired of the digging into their private lives and, from what I’ve heard, are more than happy to let those fans stew.

For production and marketing, it’s basically free engagement. They already tested the waters with a mashup edit involving one of the partners. The numbers were strong enough that execs are drooling.
