I know a couple, the wife suffered from ovarian cancer, because she no long wanted or could have sex allowed her husband the opportunity to have sex with other women. She didn't want to know about it, and wanted him to be discreet.
Perhaps the Edwards had this same arrangement. The discreet part might have been with someone who is not a star fucker. For Edwards it ruined his career, I doubt he will get the cabinet position he so desperately wanted. Cest La Vie.
