Carrie Underwood Really Isn't Shy
I have spent a great deal of time saying negative things about Carrie Underwood. I still am not a fan of hers but I will say one thing she has going for her is that she is not afraid to speak her mind and it doesn't matter who she irritates in the process. I kind of admire that quality. I hate all the butt kissing and making everyone happy attitude that seems to permeate most celebrity conversations or responses and so it is just refreshing to actually see someone speak their mind. I don't always agree with what she says, but I respect the fact she has an opinion she is willing to share.
She was quoted yesterday that she loses all respect for celebrities who announce who they are voting for and that celebrities should just keep their mouths shut. "It's saying that the American public isn't smart enough to make their own decisions ... music is where you go to get away from all the BS."
Well, I don't know what music has to do with it unless you just wanted to steer the conversation to your new record, but good job on that segue. The thing is that I don't think celebrity opinion matters for a whole lot when it comes to voting. If you are basing your vote on the advice of someone like Heidi Montag, Paris Hilton, or Lindsay Lohan then, you probably don't deserve a vote.
I think most people in the world are not swayed by a celebrity political endorsement, but I also think the celebrity has the right to say whatever the hell they want to say and to say it loud. If "everyday people" can say who they support and put up yard signs and make phone calls then what is wrong with a celebrity doing it? They have a right to participate in the process. Carrie Underwood doesn't make those determinations. Many, many people choose to keep who they are voting for to themselves which is what Carrie does. That is fine as well. That is your right. It would be funny though if everyone kept their opinions to themselves. There would be no rallies or volunteers. There would be no bumper stickers. There would be no parties or polling. Everything would be just really quiet until Election Day. Interesting.

I'm a freee speech absolutist. Yes, celebs can say whatever they damn well please. I think most voters know not to listen to them. It's people like Carrie Underwood that think the voting public is dumb.
So she has lost all respect for.....OPRAH........right - like she wouldnt give her fake right tit to be asked on THAT show. STFD Carrie Underwood...no one cares what you say. (unless you're talking smack about Jessica Simpson...then we'll listen cause..really its funny)
I think a lot of asinine comments by celebrities are ignored. They do have a right to speak their opinions though. Sometimes the more intelligent & well-spoken ones will say something worth listening to.
Freedom of speech is something I am very thankful for! Where would this blog be if it weren't for our right to talk about the hypocrisy of Hollywood! :)
i admire that quality of speaking your mind, too, as long as you can take the shit that comes back in return.
as for celebs, it's the ego that has them making their big announcements. see joaquin phoenix as an example.
I just read that Michael Crichton died of cancer. So sad.
I vote for freedom of speech. Most celebrities are more likely to convince me to vote for the other candidate than for the person they are endorsing.

"deserve" to have a vote?
Like it or not, we're all entitled to an opinion. A vote is the guarantee from our government that we have a right to an opinion when it comes to who is in charge of us. EVERYONE has the right to an opinion on this matter, no matter how uninformed or moronic you may or may not be. That's the beauty of it. No matter who you are, you still have a choice, and a voice. Its only fair.
I saw her last night at the Equinox Gym on Sunset. She was working out with full makeup on and had her hair done.
It was really strange.

Funny how almost every person who says this is a conservative who believes "freedom of speech" means "freedom to say what I want to hear, and ONLY what I want to hear".
Freedom of speech is certainly entitled, but I think what Carrie is getting at is that celebrities have an unusually large platform to express their views, which most "everyday people" do not. Celebrities also live much different lives than "everyday people" and have much larger bank accounts with which to fund those lives and support those platforms. I have a vote and Oprah has a vote, but whose is going to get across and be heard a million times more? And sadly, there ARE people who are so easily influenced that they'll vote because a celebrity tells them to. They may not deserve a vote, but it's theirs to exercise. In the same way, there are people who become really turned off when a celebrity pushes their views and then it only hurts the celebrity to continue to do so and alienate fans. Its like telling people who buy your music that you aren't good enough to be their fan because you don't have the same ideology and that sucks. I shouldn't have to be offended politically when I go to a Madonna or Bruce concert and 9 times out of 10 , I am.
CanadaChick, you're right. Even if Underwood did express her opinion, no one would give two sh*ts.
