Rowan Atkinson always seemed rather gay to me but is reputed to be a serial womanizer.
Eddie Izzard has always claimed to be a transvestite who likes women, but he wouldn't be the first closet gay though. (Incidentally, I'm a huge fan and think his stand up is absolutely brilliant, but I didn't care for his work on The Riches). If it's you, Eddie, come on out. We'll still love ya!

I was watching Neil Patrick Harris last night on Conan and it really hit home to me, that there would be hardly any blind items to talk about if everyone just came the hell out already. It just seems ridiculous that we still gossip about someones sexuality. Look how much power would be removed from others if they all just said, fuck it, I am gay.
There's no reason at all for a British comedian to be closeted, unless he's married and the rent boys are his indulgence. I thought of Stephen Fry, because he has good manners! Forgot about the tea ads.
He seems to have fallen off the celebate wagon recently, so I'll go with Stephen.

Alan Carr. It doesn't say this comedian is closeted, so I'm looking at the obviously gay ones.
Eddie Izzard been living with his (female) partner for many years now. Gay friend at work tells me he's definitely not gay.
According to wikipedia, Stephen Fry has been with his (male) partner since the mid 90s. The blind makes it seem as though the comedian in question is hetero, therefore not Stephen.
I love Stephen Fry - but he is also my guess for this item. And, it really doesn't change my opinion of him at all.
Cleese was married. I don't think it is him, even though he has lots of money.

That being said, if the man is gay and has a partner, £1,000 rent boys are pretty scandalous. I too vote Stephen Fry for dirty bird.
Would Stephen be considered a comedian? He does drama as well as comedy... I don't know.

I thought the same. Fry has done a lot of dramatic acting as well as comic stuff, and he's written several books too. 'Comedian' just doesn't sound like it describes him.
Having said that, I haven't a clue! But I'll put Stephen Amos into the mix. I doubt he has that much money though.
How about Ricky Gervais? He has all that money from The Office.

This thread is quite funny, as few of the posters have any clue about famous British comics.
These are not just people famous in the US. These are also British comedians famous in Great Britain.
Matt Lucas is a huge star in the UK because of Little Britain (an enormous hit there) and is openly gay. The blind item is not to reveal the comedian is gay. It's about him paying a huge sum of money to prostitutes.
