Today's Blind Items

This A list female country singer was hired to shoot a video of her just talking. She was given the script ahead of time and had cue cards at the ready. She came in the morning after a concert in a nearby town and was put in hair and makeup. A room was especially decorated for her to shoot the video in. The building was cleared for only essential people and the camera started rolling. And rolling. And rolling. Because for all of her posturing and songs of "I am a strong, smart woman" our singer couldn't even read her cue cards right. Also, "uh" is one of the main words in her vocabulary. The crew, ever the professionals, stuck it out waiting for her to get her few lines right. After a few hours, the director called it a day and said they have what they need and proceeds to try to edit those few lines into something passable. He had to use a lot more video of her singing then he thought he would but he made it work.

Underwood?

Underwood does seem to fit.

Carrie Underwood was my first thought, too.

Not Simpson then? :p

Carrie does seem to fit though.

I was thinking Underwood too. She gives of an "I'm a strong woman" vibe. Miranda Lambert gives off that impression too.

Maybe the singer was just really sleep-deprived?

Hi. Dolly Parton, Kelli Pickler, Taylor Swift? Although, Carrie does seem to fit the bill.

Have a good day everyone.

Shania Twain?

mlovesny - I don't think anyone would be surprised (hence blind) if it were Kellie

I love her, her music and her show dearly, but maybe Reba?

PotPourri said...

Gretchen Wilson is A-List. I wouldn't think Carrie Underwood is. Kellie Pickler is damn sure this classy, but she is certainly not A-List.

califblondy said...

Lauren! No, it can't be Reba. No, no, no.

Plus, she's not an uh-er. Carrie is. Kellie is. Let's flip a coin for one of those two.

I'm wondering if it could be someone who maybe can't read properly? Given her hard childhood, I guess maybe Kellie didn't receive a proper education? I'm just saying it's a possibility.

Ya, sleep deprivation and/or wild partying could also be the reason. I know I can't form a sentence after a crazy night.

Definitely not Reba. Just trust me. I work in the country music biz. Reba has only had like one tour date in the last month and would probably use her own studio to record the video. Not, some place after the concert. She's a pro. No way that she would forget lines or be there all day.

Gretchen Wilson is no longer A-list by the way.

I CAblondy, I don't want it to be her either! I just thought she was an A list country singer that hadn't been mentioned yet!

Uh Kendal? We get it.

Gonna throw out Faith Hill just for somethin' different.

Kendel, I am forever jealous that you work in the country music industry.

Sorry about the 10,000 comments. I seriously clicked it once. Then the page froze and bam. Hopefully I deleted all the multiples.

I'm thinking it has to be one of the younger singers as the pros like Reba, and even Faith Hill have been around long enough to know what is expected of them and they wouldn't have had a very long career like this.

I'm going with Underwood on this one as I wouldn't consider Kellie to be A list yet.

Martina McBride / strong woman

Rolf said...

what about LeAnn Rimes? Is she A list coutry singer? I can totally imagine her umming her way through an interview...

Carrie Underwood is hosting the CMAs, so maybe,

My fist thought like Lauren was Reba McEntyre

For the heck of it, what about Matina McBide

nancer said...

carrie underwood has to be A list in the country music world. pickler, no way.

i thought of shania twain too but i don't know that she's A list anymore. not reba though. not faith hill.

whoever it is, i'm cutting her some slack. she may well have been tired and/or hung over.

I've recently seen a commercial with a singer talking about animals being abused. They used a lot of her performance footage - she spoke very little. I can't remember who it was. Anyone see it??

captivagrl said...

mcbride maybe?

REBA IS SMART...DOLLY IS VERY SMART...

What a great opportunity for someone to use her fame to expose the high rate of adult illiteracy.

Carrie Underwood is totally A list, and I think Shania is too, even if she hasn't done much lately.

I was thinking Shania because of the smart strong woman stuff ... what I'm MORE trying to figure out is under what circumstances does someone want a country singer to do a talking video, and for what audience?

I've seen Carrie talk extemporaneously and she does fine; no idea if she freezes with an actual script.

So I'm going with Shania.

Ms Cool said...

Faith Hill.

carrie Underwood has a college degree, so could probably handle reading the cue cards.

nunaurbiz said...

Shaninny Tw*t isn't performing (other than living a lie. Again. Heh heh heh.)

fireflies said...

Not Carrie. She's a pretty decent speaker. Not Dolly or Reba. I'm putting my money on Shania, Faith or LeeAnn.

Marna Palmer said...

i'm going with martina mcbride too. All of her songs make me feel like my guidance counselor is singing to me. Total girl power overkill.

nunaurbiz said...

Check out this Kellie Pickler quote I found (http://www.bankrate.com/finance/fame-fortune/q-a-with-country-singer-kellie-pickler-1.aspx):

Who am I? I've found that everything I've been through and every obstacle that I've had to overcome, that I'm just allowing all that to make me a strong woman. I'm starting to feel like a strong individual and now accepting who I am. I'm happy with who I see when I look in the mirror.

Now, I would argue that Kellie Pickler is A list, but maybe some would by virtue of her exposure on "American Idol," not the country music world.

I don't think Faith ever said she was smart, did she? The smartest thing she ever did was get pregnant and get Tim to marry her. ^..^

Reba is much too much of a pro to do something like this. Much as I don't like her, LeAnn, too.

I'm thinking it's a younger gal, so I'm going with Kellie. Besides, can't stand her music! Hee hee

No way in the world Gretchen is close to A list. She wishes.

Underwood FTW

nunaurbiz said...

Oh, I got it! Even though I REALLY would argue that Jewel is A list country music singer, she did sing "Stronger Woman."

And she's touring.

Plus, I think she thinks she's smarter than the rest of us because of living in a car, etc., that she's always talking about.

Can't stand her, either! LOL

To me this just SCREAMS jessica simpson but thats because she comes across as SUCH an airhead, nothing between the ears but nitrous oxide.

yow.

i'm probably way off base though.

Anotheramy said...

Underwood is an excellent speaker and does so quite often. She is the subject of the stuck up and snotty blinds. She hates Jessica Simpson and sometimes lets it show.
Reba had a hit show and can read the pants off of cue cards.
Dolly is a pro.

This is someone else, Shania possibly.

rebecca said...

Dolly's a completely brilliant businesswoman (Martha Stewart-style mania, always working), plus she writes her own songs ... for instance, "I Will Always Love You," which was fucking BUTCHERED by Whitney Houston.

Which brings to me the reason I have NEVER been able to watch American Idol: I tried once, thought 'give it a shot,' and half an hour in, soeone sang it and Simon said (paraphrased) "I don't know how you thought you'd be able to match the WHITNEY HOUSTON ORIGINAL," and I threw some shit at my teevee and never watched it again.

rachelstargirlrox said...

Hmmmmmmm
I would say Gretchen Wilson, but... I don't think she qualifies as A list.
Alright, I'm jumping on the Underwood bandwagon.

Merlin D. Bear said...

Gretchen Wilson.
She's A-list based on record sales, and "Redneck Woman" is a power ballad if there ever was one.
She comes across as a hard partying redneck, and recently has gotten a lot of press on how she finally got her GED.

Lisa said...

I just can't see Wilson being A-list at all. She hasn't had a hit in a couple of years.

I'm loving the Jewel guess!

Terri said...

I'm torn between Martina McBride or Jewel. MM was my first choice, then someone tossed Jewel out there.

MM:

Carrie Underwood

No way is this Dolly. Firstly, she's a great speaker. Secondly, she runs a major international literacy campaign/foundation, so she would have had no troble reading the cards.

Maja With a J said...

Not in a million years is this Dolly Parton. It would have said "country music legend and all around awesome in every way" *L*

My first thought was Shania Twain. But does she even count as country anymore? Or is she just plain crap?

Unknown said...

There aren't many current A-list female country stars anymore. Dolly, Reba, Martina, Shania, and Faith are pretty much the entire list. Dolly, Reba, and Martina are articulate and intelligent. Shania and Faith have come across as real airheads in the past. Shania has been out of the spotlight for years, and hasn't performed anywhere lately. But just a few days ago she was at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Concert in New York. The blind item states "She came in the morning after a concert in a nearby town and was put in hair and makeup". I first thought it couldn't be Shania, because she hasn't sung at a concert since her Up! tour ended in 2004. But if the concert in question was the Hall of Fame concert that Shania attended, rather than sung at, my guess is Shania. If not, it's got to be Faith Hill.

Jenn said...

Carrie was a journalism major in college. I am pretty sure she can read. What about Faith Hill? She comes from a family whose illiteracy is well documented.

telesma said...

Twain, Hill, Rimes. Lee Ann Rimes really doesn't strike me as all that bright, and neither does Faith Hill.

Definitely NOT Reba or Dolly. Both have acting chops and are very bright. And Dolly doesn't have a "smart strong woman" persona. She's got a cutesy down-home persona that belies just how very smart she is.

lari white "because I am a woman"

nunaurbiz said...

Love Lari, but I don't even think in her day she counted as A list.

The movie star rankings aside, I think Enty and other non-country music folks might take A list country to mean sales but mostly name recognition.

I'm sticking with my Jewel guess.

@Harriet: High five, sistah! Was Shaninny EVER country?!?! ^..^

FrenchGirl said...

for me,she's Taylor Swift:that explains her no-reaction during Kanye West moment!

Farm Girl Pink... said...

Oddly I don't find any of the guesses plausible.

Disliking a singer does not make them guilty of being dense. haha!

I have seen Twain, Hill, Swift, Pickler, Wilson, McEntire, Jewel & Underwood do interviews without it being an effort.

Matter of fact I have seen them all talk non stop. Including Jessica Simpson.

The only girl singer listed here I have seen stumble in interviews is Marina McBride. But not to the point of looking completely dense.

And thinking about this blind... I am more curious if the singer was desperately hung over verses just dense.
