Yay for James Franco! (stated on behalf of my Mom who absolutely adores him).

Rose said...

I'm glad to see him nominated. He was great in 127 hours. I think Colin will win though.

I LOVED Black Swan.

The Fighter was overrated IMHO!

I had absolutely no desire to watch "True Grit" (I can't stand westerns), "127 Hours" (I can't stand Franco), or "Black Swan" (didn't sound appealing). I did watch "The King's Speech", so I am glad to have watched an awesome movie worthy of all of its nominations. Congrats!

I've seen most of the nominated films and I can honestly say The King's Speech is the best film of the year. Team Colin for best actor.

Black Swan was good, eerie, dark and kind of left you saying huh? Natalie Portman did a great job.

I also liked Nicole Kidman in Rabbit Hole, a good but sad movie.

The Fighter was good too and Christian Bale was excellent.

I disliked The Social Network and can't imagine why it's getting all the accolades it is receiving.

Just my humble opinion...

Going to see Blue Valentine tonight, can't wait. I wonder if Ryan Gosling should have been nominated instead of...maybe Jesse Eisenberg? I haven't see The Social Network, so i don't know what he was like in it...

I would rather gouge my own eyes out than watch any show that involves Natalie Portman.

I'm so happy for James Franco but I think Colin Firth might win it.

Even though I don't understand the appeal for Toy story, can you imagine Toy Story 3 winning for best picture?

RocketQueen said...

I am determined that this year will be the first year I have ever watched all movies up for "best", though I won't bother with Toy Story.

I thought Black Swan was overrated, frankly.

I want Bening to finally win that Oscar. She's fab.

RocketQueen said...

@bloodonthescreen - Eisenberg was REALLY good. And it was a good movie.

Thanks RQ, I like JE a lot so yay. I will pick it up.

where is Nolan? where is Garfield? where is Gosling?where is Moore?

i'm happy for Bardem(i disliked Biutiful but Bardem is so good in it), Bale,Rush,Hawkes,Firth,Portman,Benning,Leo,Adams,Franco & Williams:they are my fav of acting this year

Happy for Colin Firth & John Hawkes!

Ryan was robbed.

Of the best pictures nominees, I have only seen Toy Story 3. Sad.

Colin Firth should win an Oscar for his hotness. I just watched the BBC Pride and Prejudice again. He is smoldering.

It is really frustrating in Australia because most of these movies have only just been released - or have never come to my home town which is larger than some capital cities in this country.

I have seen The Kids Are All Right and loved it. I saw Black Swan on the weekend and so far it is my favourite film for this year - thought it was so powerful and Natalie Portman really blew me away. Am seeing True Grit today with my husband, who now also wants to see The Fighter with me (he didn't before and he passed on Black Swan which I think he would have liked as well).

If you get a chance, do see Animal Kingdom - it is an amazing film, really powerful, edge of your seat. I don't write this just because it is Australian, it holds up to anything.

I can't believe Nolan wasn't nominated for best director. Crazy.

Portman was terrific, I found that Black Swan was pretty mixed. I might enjoy it more a second time if that makes any sense...

Caroline said...

Hailee Steinfeld was a SUPPORTING actress in True Grit? Oh my mistake then, I though she kind of was the movie, in a plot-revolving-around-her-character kind of way. And jp, I don't like westerns either, but I liked this- I do really enjoy the Coen brothers though, so I may be biased.

KMG852 said...

I liked Black Swan but I loved The King's Speech. Hopefully Colin Firth wins.

iheartjacksparrow said...

I was surprised Alice in Wonderland wasn't nominated for make-up since it won the Critics' Choice Award for that category.

Momster said...

Caroline, I read somewhere (maybe Entertainment Weekly) that Hailee would have a better chance of winning an award if she were entered in supporting. Not justifying that decision, I agree with ya.

Paisley said...

Thrilled for John Hawkes. He was wonderful in Winter's Bone.

Cheryl said...

Winter's Bone is an AMAZING movie! I was so excited to see all the nominations it got. It is the first movie in a long time that I can recommend with absolutely NO CAVEATS!!

shakey said...

Good for Denis Villeneuve for Incendies. I haven't seen it but if it's as good as Polytechnique, then it's a good film.

I'd like Gasland to win for best documentary mostly because of the subject matter - there are some in Quebec that want to drill for shale gas here.

Majik said...

Ryan Gosling should have been nominated...

mooshki said...

If Inception doesn't win Cinematography, I'll be pissed. Yes, True Grit was beautifully done, but Inception was on a different level.

mooshki said...

On further thought, I bet it won't win, because they'll decide to give it Visual Effects instead. It deserves both.

jgirl828 said...

UUUMMM, where is Andrew Garfeild [sp?] for TSN?

Rose said...

HS was amazing in True Grit! I don't mind if she is up for supporting actress as I think it gives her a better chance of winning.

Mother Campfire said...

Oh MY, Cheryl, how we disagree. Honestly, I couldn't even finish it. It reminded me of a high school play (acting wise) except for the main character's uncle - he was pretty good. Seriously overrated.

PotPourri said...

Ben Affleck WAS ROBBED! He should have been nominated for putting together an awesome movie...The Town. I watched it 3 times one day on netflix. It is an excellent movie. At Least Renner got nominated.

The King's Speech is going to do a sweep.
