Tracy Morgan Returns To Stand Up - Loves Gay People, Makes Fun Of Disabled
That whole making fun of gay people thing got Tracy Morgan a bunch of publicity. It also rightfully brought down the wrath of gay and lesbian organizations everywhere for his vile comments. He apologized and everything seemed to end on a happy note. Then, Tracy took to the stage again this weekend. On Saturday his first set was all peace love and harmony and everyone sat around passing a coke bottle and singing, "I want to buy the world a Coke." Not really, but it makes for a good image. Oh, and if you have no idea what I am talking about, go to YouTube, type in the above phrase and watch a commercial that had people singing about a product that is bad for them. They could also make you cry. Search for Mean Joe Green Coke commercial. Anyway, where was I?

I just don't get his funniness. He is the weakest part of 30 rock.
Oh, God. Tracy, Tracy, Tracy. I know you're unhinged, but maybe you should just stop touring for a while, chill on your couch, and watch some streaming Netflix. Don't leave your house, is what I'm saying. And just keep your lips tightly closed for a while.
Enty -- I *truly* don't understand the point of the last sentence of this post. I'd say any blasphemy Tracy may have engaged in is a heck of a lot less offensive than saying he'd KILL his progeny for loving another man.
Cue the trip to rehab "for stupidity" before 30 Rock starts filming again...

^^ they have rehab for that? I know some people who could use a stint in rehab for stupidity.
Aren't there other things to make fun of? If you have to resort to using disabled people or other touchy subjects to get a cheap laugh then you might not be really good at what you do.
I'm also annoyed by people who always say that this is comedy and thus it should be allowed to make fun of anything. If this would be the case then I'm wondering where all the white comedians are making fun of black people. I don't think that there are any and we all know why.
Also, I guess Tracy doesn't know the difference between comedy and satire. You're either a comedian or a satirist. Not both.
I don't know. Comedians being offensive doesn't offend me. If you don't like his brand of humor, don't go to his show.

There are plenty of successful comedians out there who don't make fun of minorities or marginalized groups. It IS possible.
And on that note, apparently Dave Chappele is on his way back :) I can't WAIT - LOVE that dude.

Leave the man alone and don't watch comedy if you don't want to be offended.

The dude is bat shit crazy and is just getting a rise out of everyone.
Comics always go for the taboo but in Tracy's case he just really isn't that funny unless the lines are written for him.
I've seen a lot of Chappele, Sue Ellen, a LOT. Nothing I've ever been offended by. Got something in mind?
I'm not offended by him either, but I'm sure someone out there could be offended by the race draft skit, or the skit where he is the head of the KKK. What is offensive in comedy is subjective, is all I am saying.
Isn't offense at the heart of American comedy? Just like sillyness is at the heart of English comedy? Monty Python wasn't really offensive to me, just silly. Carlos Mencia would be offensive comedy. I don't know why anyone would get offended at a comedy routine. I just don't have time for that. But, I do have time for some snark and wonderment........
I've only seen Chappelle delve into a brief bit of sexism, but that's usually when he parodying someone like Rick James (bitch!).
Anyway, I'm with you, RocketQueen. Dave's rowdy, but I don't think he's shockingly offensive or anything.
But I stick to stuff like Mitch Hedberg, typically. I like wackiness.
And I love George Carlin. And Margaret Cho. And Janeane Garafalo -- I like my comedians to be sardonic and politically astute, and I *don't* like cringing when I hear them speak.
It's all context. I think we all know whether something is mean-spirited or not. I just don't get a good feeling from Tracy Morgan, and that's all there is to it.

As a disabled person, I don't care what a stand-up says, especially if I don't find the guy funny in the first place.
I think my sense of humor is questionable though. I've been watching/listening to a lot of British stand up lately-like Jimmy Carr, Alan Carr, Noel Fielding, James Corden, or The IT Crowd or The Mighty Boosh.
Not my preference, but I know a lot of others like him. His shows regularly sell out here, but I've never been to one. Then again, I'm a Dane Cook fan...so apparently I have no taste according to a lot of people ;)

I am disabled. I can definitely laugh at myself. The trouble here, as I see it, is that Tracy Morgan just isn't funny. Of course, the whole "is it funny or not?" thing is totally subjective. What's hilarious to me might be completely unfunny to you.
To me, Tracy Morgan is just unfunny. And mean.
So I ignore him.

It is as if with George Carlin's death, smart and informed comedy started to wither in favor of nasty and mean comedy. I mean .. look at Daniel Tosh's show .. when have compound fractures been considered hilarious?? Maybe this is America's version of the arena?

Baka Neko- we love Eddie Izzard. We were able to see him when he appeared in SF a couple of years ago, you're right really funny, really smart and totally awesome.
He even met with members of the audience who waited at one of the stage exit doors. We were going by there on the way to the car and stopped to listen to him. He was standing on a crate with a microphone attached to a boom box-kind of like standing on a soapbox-very entertaining.

@RocketQ - We LOVE Dane when he first came out (have all his CD/DVDs) but didn't really care for his last special. My favorites are of him working at Burger King. And impersonating a car alarm.
Yay Lelaina! I've seen him twice live - both times I nearly wet my pants. Vicious Circle is great - I could watch it over and over, but you're right, Isolated Incident wasn't nearly as good. One of my favourite t-shirts is from his show saying "I did my best!"
@RocketQueen - I just had to re-watch that ("I did my best"). HA! Yeah, Vicious Circle is my fav. Maybe I'll re-watch/listen this weekend.
