Dale and Roy began as an affair. I think Dale later became a Christian, and was sincere about it. She and Roy lost two children: one to Down's Syndrome related heart problem and the other child died in a school bus accident. Overwhelming pain to lose one child much less two. Maybe when Dale became active in Christian writing and public speaking, it meant Roy was forced to be roped into and had to go along for the ride for his image.
