If you want to help people you give them money; you don't commit publicity stunts
Yea, this is publicity pretending to be charity.
You know, it would be really nice if they just gave the money to the charity. That said, you're all so cynical you can't use basic logic. If an actress wants publicity for her new movie & did something like this, it would be in the New York Times, not on some random website that may or may not have many visitors. It wouldn't be a blind item. Even if Enty reveals this, the odds are it's going to be revealed well after the movie comes out. If you start seeing interviews with an actress where she's "subtly" mentioning in interviews that she gave tickets to charity then it would be a publicity stunt.
Until I start reading about this in major magazines & newspapers I'll see this for what it is right now...... someone with a big ego doing something that's semi-nice. I say big ego because you'd have to have 1 to think, "What do people struggling need? Money? Food? Shelter? No, they need to see my movie! That's what will make them forget about their awful lives!"
So some person who pays a lot dough to give some (or a big bunch of) poor people happiness is a publicity stunt and people who just spend a couple of hours of their time going to hospitals are the kindest person in the world.
Now now people! It is nice..it's also deductible for her and the studio..just sayin'
Well, technically, this IS money going to charity if she's donating to summer programs. I worked for a city summer program for three years and field trips/activities are part of the experience. If she's donating the tickets directly, that means 500K worth of actual product goes directly to the program, instead of 500K in cash that goes to the program's salaries, administrative fees, etc.

Nothing like a free movie pass in the summer. Kids love it.
My 5-yr old can't wait to see Minions. What I see here is someone who understands that not all children will be able to see this movie and making sure that that tens of thousands of those who can't, will get to see this movie. This is a very nice gesture, and doesn't exclude other charitable acts. Why assume she doesn't make other contributions.
@Squeege & @Raye, you might want to fact check before posting your presumptive & snarky (& highly inaccurate) remarks about Sandra Bullock.She,in fact,is one of the the biggest Humanitarians & philanthropists in the celebrity world -most of which she does Anonymously! It's other people who find out about her kind acts and publicize them-she does not unless unless her star name power will help The Cause.One Case In Point-She was the First Person who,no questions asked,pledged 1Million Dollars to Hurricane Katrina Victims Before President Bush even knew how to spell Katrina.She put her name out there to get the word out that people in New Orleans needed help & they needed it NOW-not for tax deductions nor for publicity nor for some publicity stunt nor for any other self reward that you are erroneously claiming. Furthermore,this is her 1st red Carpet in 1& 1/2 years if she wanted publicity or to pull some sort of publicity stunt she would've & certainly could've done so plenty of times before this because she certainly has been invited to plenty and has respectfully declined(ie.Met Gala).She is,by all counts,a private good samaritan, single mom,raising her son,who also happens to be an actress who spreads her wealth around.What's the problem with that. You are also missing the point of WHY she made it apoint that the KIDS got TICKETS to SEE the MOVIE"MINIONS" & SPECIFICALLY not SIMPLY GIVE THE MONEY TO THE CHARITY!!!--those kids would never see the money... OR THE MOVIE...if she donated $$$ to the charity defeating the purpose!-You OBVIOUSLY DO NOT GET HOW MUCH THESE & all the KIDS LOOOOVE THESE MINIONS FROM "DESPICABLE ME" Movie!!! Sandra wanted to give the kids a day of fun to see this Summer Movie Hit that they would probably never otherwise get to see & that they would really miss out on!!! it was a perfect thing to do for the kids & to not give the Board discretion where her monies went!!! Believe me she gives a ton of cash to a ton of charities as well-She's all about Children's Funds & Charities!!!
Uhhh so I know that I'm a few days late, but for a poor kid yes this is fucking AWESOME. Maybe y'all were privileged growing up, but in my house getting to go see a movie in a theatre was a fucking BLESSING. Seriously check your privilege. It may be a small gesture to a millionaire, but to those broke kids and their broke parents, it's pretty amazing.
Back Again - you gave a list of Ms Bullock's philanthropic activities over the years. These, to me, are genuine acts of kindness because of the high degree of personal expenditure and time. Movie tickets to something you star in is self serving. And although Riven would have been delighted to receive movie tickets as a child, it is about the same as giving an underpriviledged child a voucher to McDonalds or a Kardashian perfume. Not that much of a treat. And what I wrote about marketing - these children's movies are carefully designed to get children to bug their parents to buy the toys and sponsored products. Why were these tickets to s specific movie? Why not any movie????
So, the new definition of underpriviledged is a child who hasn't seen Minions????
I hear you @Squegee & your point well taken so I checked a bit more since I was assuming these tickets were geared toward younger "children"-lo & behold they were-not to teens.I agree teens might want to see the new Avengers,etc. but these were geared for the kids.And Minions is like this years "FROZEN" and familiar to them from the 2 "The Despicable Me" movies so, it makes the most sense- it was a cool gesture.
