What an entitled society we live in. I mean, yes, I'm here on this site, but to ask off topic questions at a promotional event is out of line to me.
There's an echo in this thread.
While it is probably Renner (I really like him a lot), I remember a NY Post story about the man who lives with Hugh Jackman and his wife here in NYC.
Almost certainly Renner who has been doing the festival circuit promoting Arrival. I don't blame him either, it is none of their business. I remember seeing him do a press junket interview when someone asked if Tom Cruise had tried to recruit him to Scientology - yes someone actually thought smoking, drinking, hard partying Renner was a good match for Scientology. He looked like he was about to deck the guy, the film cut and they came back on with polite questions about the film. I like Renner. P.S. Renner had a date on the Red Carpet at Tiff, twin brothers who bid $50K in a charity auction to be there with him. His friend was also there on the red carpet, in full view, taking photographs and appearing to be acting as his press agent. If Renner is in the closet he certainly isn't cowering there.
Please use the term "closeted" loosely

Most actors come out when their careers have played out. Ian McKellen only came out when he was 49, well established and had no chance of a leading man role.
We are ridiculously far away from the kind of tolerance where gay men can be cast as leads.
I wouldn't get too excited. I just looked at the pap video of Renner returning to LA and there is Winters carrying the bags and no other assistant in sight. He has retired as a house designer and now it looks like he is acting as Renner's assistant; he did the same at a film festival in the summer, but that time under the supervision of Renner's press agent, who was unusually absent this time. It is obvious from his instagram that he loves mixing with the rich and famous and I think he is either taking the first steps in becoming part of Renner's production company or he is 'helping out' at some choice movie industry events whilst he has some down time. If Winters was pushing for this it would be totally in character for Renner not to be influenced by concerns over how the media would react; he would probably tell them to f**k off.
You're probably thinking of John Palermo. John and Hugh Jackman split up a while ago. It did not end well.

3. Renner was never asked that type of question while at TIFF
4 Renner's publicist was also at TIFF
5. There were many who joined Renner throughout all of his time at TIFF
6. In NYC, the eve was a private screening and very little to no press interviews.
Conclusion: this blind could be about anyone anywhere at anytime and not specifically Renner.
And by the way.
Dean + Dan Caten are the designers of Renner's tuxedo worn at the TIFF premier. So. Not a "date" w the twins but but instead instead pay Renner a fee . Wear a show their couture line, donate the $ at the fundraiser the night before.
